Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago situated in the Atlantic Ocean. This island is famous for stunning beaches, picturesque villages and year-round sunshine.
Just half an hour north of the international airport is Corralejo, one of the island’s largest resort towns and the perfect place from which to explore the Corralejo Dunes National Park.
At the island’s southern end is Morro Jable, a town famed for seafood restaurants and a picturesque lighthouse.
Gorgeous beaches run the length of the Jandia Peninsula, reaching all the way to Costa Calma. For something different, check out the pitch-black sands of Ajuy Beach.
Should you tire of Fuerteventura’s beaches, head inland to explore the island’s amazing volcanic landscapes and villages. Take the winding roads up to Mirador Morro Velosa on Mount Tegu for the best views on the entire island, then visit Puerto del Rosario, the island’s capital.
With it’s long Spanish history, Fuerteventura is also home to many romantic buildings and churches such as the parish church at La Oliva and the town hall in Pajara.
Cotillo is perhaps the most picturesque village on the entire island. Stroll the old harbour, which is still used by fisherman, and admire the original windmills.
In an archipelago acclaimed for beaches, Fuerteventura has been blessed with some of the biggest and most beautiful. Combined with its perfect weather and incredible landscapes, this is the perfect island to relax, recharge and reconnect with nature.

The resort of Morro Jable on the Canary Island Fuerteventura is located in the south on the peninsula Jandía. Ideal for a beach holiday is the Playa de Jandia with its holiday villages. In Morro Jable you can still experience the authentic Fuerteventura. Here you can stroll in the old town, eat Canarian food and watch the harbor every morning the big rays, which are traditionally looking for food in the harbor. On the beach promenade you can walk wonderful and the slightly hilly terrain invites you to a challenging photo shoot.

Morro Jable is a popular Beach Town located in the South of Fuerteventura. The area around the Playa de la Cebada beach with its attractive pedestrianised streets is known as Morro Jable, while the adjacent 'strip' with its many large hotels is known as 'Jandia' - which is also the name of the entire peninsula.

Top 3 Best Beaches of Fuerteventura | My favourite beaches | Beautiful Beaches
These are my personal favourites, not that there aren't some other lovely beaches in Fuerteventura, but all of these are easily reached. I think they are some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Holidays in Fuerteventura are all about sun, sand and sea. You will never be wondering where to go in Fuerteventura or finding things to do in Fuerteventura.
My favourite beach areas are:
1. El Cotillo Beaches. These include the lovely lagoons to the north of the village and the more rugged beaches to the south.
2. Corralejo beaches. This run along the beautiful sand dunes national park for a number of miles and include soft white sand and clear waters.
3. The beaches of the Jandia Peninsular. The Jandia beaches are located in the south of the island. They run for about 20 miles from Morro Jable in the south to Costa Calma in the north.
The two other beaches I would add to the list are La Pared towards the south west and Cofete in the south. Canary Islands beaches don't get any better than these.

Jandia Beach, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
We've recently returned from a lovely holiday to Fuerteventura, and I thought I'd share a little video of the beautiful Jandia beach which was just a few minutes walk from our hotel.
The beach along the Jandia peninsula runs from Morro Jable to Costa Calma for approximately 21 km. We stayed at the Iberostar Gaviotas Park, and this video shows the short walk down the hill from our hotel to the beach, some views along the beach, and then some clips taken as we walked along the coastal path to the lighthouse. This more touristy area of the beach is also known as Playa de Matorral, and there are huge stretches of soft yellow sand and lovely shallow waters. The sea was a little too rough for swimming, but as the tide goes out it leaves behind large lakes of sea water which are perfect for little ones to play in. Along the top of the beach there are salt marshes which are protected areas, and so you access the beach itself along one of several board walks.
A wide, smooth footpath and cycle path runs along the top, and there are plenty of little squirrels to watch out for which will come right up to you hoping for food. The lighthouse was just over 30 minutes brisk walk from the hotel, it took a little longer with children, and you also pass a small shopping centre with tourist shops.
The natural whale skeleton is from an adult male great white sperm whale died due to natural causes and was stranded close by in 2004. Sperm whales can be sighted all year round and are particularly abundant off the coast of Fuerteventura.

Lanzarote, a Spanish island, is the easternmost
of the autonomous Canary Islands, in the Atlantic
Ocean, approximately 125 km off the coast of
Africa and 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula.
Covering 845.9 square kilometers, it is the fourth
largest of the islands. The first recorded name for
the island, given by Angelino Dulcert, was
Insula de Lanzarotus Marocelus, after the Genovese
navigator Lancelotto Malocello, from which the
modern name is derived. The island's name in the
native language was Tyterogaka or Tytheroygaka,
which may mean one that is all ochre.

The Playa del Matorral is a beach located next to the town of MorroJable, municipality of Pájara, Fuerteventura , Spain . It is also known as Playa de Jandia because it is located on the southern coast of Jandía, a peninsula that covers the entire southwest of the island of Fuerteventura.
Of fine white sand , it has a length of about 12 kilometers and an average width of 300 meters. Its clean waters and sturdy color allow the practice of various water sports and are suitable for swimming. The prevailing wind is favorable to practices such as windsurfing for what there are several schools and boards rental places. Diving can be practiced in two well-defined areas: El Veril Grande, on the stretch of coast in front of Morro Jable Lighthouse and at Veril Chico, about 200 meters.
Access to the beach can easily be done on foot or by car from Morro Jable or from the accesses that are on the main road (Route of the Dunes), yes, on foot. There are numerous hotel and resort complexes but even so the beach has an average occupancy rate, which allows you to enjoy it without agglomerations.
The lighthouse not only serves as a warning signal to those who sail its coast, but also serves as a division between the nudist beach area and the non-nudist beach area: north of the lighthouse are nudists and south, in the near section to Morro Jable , the non-nudists. At present, due to recent storms that caused strong wind and waves, the southernmost part has lost a large amount of sand, revealing rocks and stones that have caused the bathers to move somewhat further north.
There are rescue and surveillance stations and their waters are moderate waves. Annually it is worthy of the Blue Flag the Foundation for Environmental Education grants for the quality of its services and optimum environmental conditions.
It is a coastal sector of Playa del Matorral that has been classified as Protected Natural Area since 1994 , in accordance with the Law of Natural Areas of the Canaries , and has a total protected area of 115.6 hectares.
Known popularly as Saladar de Jandía , it is a plant community that supports periodic floods produced by the high tide . The main difficulty that vegetables have to overcome is the huge concentration of salt they absorb.
