Lake Toba on the island of Sumatra is an immense volcanic lake about 100 kilometers long and 30 kilometers wide. Genetic estimates suggests that there were only a few thousand humans that survived the catastrophe. The island in the middle – Pulau Samosir – is the largest island within an island and contains two lakes. Besides visiting “a lake on an island within a lake on an island” tourist also come here to kick back and relax and swim in the volcanically warmed waters.

Karimunjawa adalah kepulauan di Laut Jawa yang termasuk dalam Kabupaten Jepara, Jawa Tengah. Dengan luas daratan ±1.500 hektare dan perairan ±110.000 hektare, Karimunjawa kini dikembangkan menjadi pesona wisata Taman Laut yang mulai banyak digemari wisatawan lokal maupun mancanegara.
Berdasarkan legenda yang beredar di kepulauan, Pulau Karimunjawa ditemukan oleh Sunan Muria. Legenda itu berkisah tentang Sunan Muria yang prihatin atas kenakalan putranya, Amir Hasan. Dengan maksud mendidik, Sunan Muria kemudian memerintahkan putranya untuk pergi ke sebuah pulau yang nampak kremun-kremun (kabur) dari puncak Gunung Muria agar si anak dapat memperdalam dan mengembangkan ilmu agamanya. Karena tampak kremun-kremun maka dinamakanlah pulau tersebut Pulau Karimun.

Karimunjava or Karimun Java is an archipelago of 27 islands in the Java Sea, Indonesia, approximately 80 kilometres northwest of Jepara.[1] The islands' name means 'a stone's throw from Java' in Javanese.[citation needed] They have a total land area of 78 km2. The main island is known as Karimun (2,700 ha), while the second-largest island is Kemujan (1,400 ha).[1]
In 2011, the population of the island group was about 9,000 who lived on five of the islands. The population is largely Javanese, with pockets of Bugis and Madurese inhabitants. Javanese culture is dominant in the islands which are the only islands off Java where Javanese is the lingua franca

Karimunjawa Islands Lonely Planet - Can be reached from the port city of Semarang or the port city of Jepara. Carefully sail when the tide is high. Passengers who are not accustomed to be seasick. My advice is do not sit in a closed room or air-conditioned but went up to the top deck of the boat so exposed to sea air. About 3 hours long trip using fast boats.
