Ashoka Rock Edict of Kalsi, Uttarakhand
The site of Asoka's inscriptions at Kalsi the only place in north India where the great Mauryan emperor has inscribed the set of the fourteen rock edicts (res). The language of these edicts is Pali and the script Brahmi which reflect Asoka's humane approach in his internal administration, his fatherly concern for the moral and spiritual welfare of his subjects, and his commitment to non-violence and abandonment of warfare. For this Asoka proclaimed certain restrictive and prescriptive policies. The essence of the restrictive policies are restraint in worldly amusement, in gratuitous slaughter or non destruction of animals, in participating in despicable and useless beliefs and practices, and in glorification of one's own faith. That of prescriptive ones: self-control, purity of mind, gratitude, and firm attachment service to parents and ascetics, alms to brahmins and sramanas (ascetics), seemly behaviour towards friends, relatives, acquaintances, servants and slaves, concordance in religious matters.
To implement his policies Asoka put restraint in killing animals for the royal kitchen, established hospitals and planted medicinal herbs for both human beings and animals. He did not only within his empire but also in the neighbouring kingdoms: Chodas, Pamdiyas, Satiyaputras, Kerlaputras upto tambapamni (srilanka) in the south, and of hellenic kings in the west. He appointed dhamma mahamatra-s (overseers of the sacred law) for the promotion of righteous conduct, and replacing sound of trumpet signalling war used sound of dhamma (righteousness) whereby he claims to have gained dhamma vijay (victory by means of righteousness) even in the kingdoms of his contemporary hellenic kings, namely, antiochus (i) theos of Sriya, Ptolemy (ii) Philadelphia of Egypt, Antigonus Gonatas of Macedonia, magas of Cyrene and Alexender of epirus. Thus, these inscriptions bear testimony to the facts that what Asoka preached also practiced. That is why he is acclaimed as one of the greatest emperors in the world.

Ashoka Rock Edict of Kalsi, Uttarakhand | RR Darvesh | सम्राट अशोक के शिला लेख, कलसी, उत्तराखंड
अशोक शिलालेख, एक चट्टानी पत्थर पर लिखा गया धरोहर है, जो उत्तराखंड राज्य में देहरादून जिले के कलसी जगह पर स्थित है। महान मौर्य सम्राट अशोक ने इस चट्टान पर अपने 14 फरमान खुदवाए थे। यह फरमान मूल रूप से राजा के द्वारा सुझाए गए सुधारों और सलाह का एक संकलन है। इस पत्थर का पता रॉक फारेस्ट ने वर्ष 1860 लगाया था।
यहां हर साल हजारों पर्यटक पहुंचते हैं, लेकिन शिलालेख के प्राकृत और ब्राह्मी भाषा में होने के कारण वह नहीं समझ पाते कि इस पर लिखा क्या है। अब पर्यटकों की इस समस्या को आर्कियोलाजिकल सर्वे आफ इंडिया (एएसआई) का दून सर्किल दूर करने जा रहा है। यहां एक इंटरप्रिटेशन सेंटर भी बनाया जाएगा, जिसके माध्यम से लिपि पर क्या लिखा है यह पर्यटकों को बताया जाएगा।
अब हम सैर पर निकले हैं दिल्ली से चकराता और फिर चकराता से दिल्ली। फिलहाल हम चकराता से वापस दिल्ली की ओर जा रहे हैं, जहां रास्ते में प्रसिद्ध मौर्य सम्राट अशोक के शिलालेख पर रुकेंगे। यह शिलालेख देहरादून जिला मुख्यालय से चकराता राजमार्ग पर लगभग 50 कि०मी० दूर यमुना नदी के तट पर कलसी में है।
अब हम पहुंच गए हैं कलसी। जी हां। दरवाजे पर अशोक स्तंभ लगा यह जगह सम्राट अशोक की शिलालेख वाली जगह है।
यहां खूबसूरत बगीचे हैं और इसके पीछे दूर तक फैली हुई जगह यमुना नदी का हिस्सा है। इतिहास बताता है कि यहां पर यमुना नदी कभी अपने पूरे शबाब पर हुआ करती थी लेकिन अभी यह सूखा हुआ है।
दुनिया भर में अपनी महानता के लिए प्रसिद्ध सम्राट अशोक की एक नायाब निशानी कलसी शिलालेख के रूप में यहां मौजूद है। यह शिलालेख भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण विभाग द्वारा संरक्षित है। इतिहासकारों का कहना है कि पूरे उत्तर भारत में केवल कलसी में ही सम्राट अशोक का शिलालेख मौजूद है और वह शिलालेख आपके सामने है।
इस शिला का अपना ही महत्व है। यह शिलालेख लगभग 260 इ.पू. का बताया जाता है जिसपर लिखे लेखों की भाषा प्राकृत और लिपी ब्राह्मी है। अनूठी प्रकृति के बीच स्थित यह शिला लेख सम्राट अशोक के आंतरिक प्रशासन के विषय में बताती है।

Hello friends, We are heading back to Delhi from astonishing, where we will stay on the path of the famous Mauryan emperor Ashoka's inscription. This inscription is located in Kalsi on the bank of Yamuna river, about 50 km away from Dehradun District Headquarters on Chakrata Highway.
Now we have reached the blossom. Yes yes Ashoka pillar on the door, this place is the site of Emperor Ashoka's inscription.
There are beautiful gardens, and this is a part of the Yamuna river in a far-flung place. History tells us that Yamuna river used to be in its entirety but it is now dry.
An unsurpassed emblem of emperor Ashoka, famous for his greatness around the world, is present here as a fictitious inscription. This inscription is preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. Historians say that in whole of India, only Emperor Ashoka's inscription is present in Kalsi and that inscription is in front of you.
This rock has its own importance. This inscription is approximately 260 BC The language written on which the language of the letters is Prakrit and script is Brahmi. This rock statue situated between the unique nature tells about Ashoka's internal administration.
