Kara is one of Togo's five regions. Kara is the regional capital. Other major cities in the Kara region include Bafilo, Bassar, and Niamtougou. Kara is divided into the prefectures of Assoli, Bassar, Bimah, Dankpen, Doufelgou, Kéran, and Kozah. Kara is located north of Centrale Region and south of Savanes Region. To the west lies the Northern Region of Ghana, and to the east lie the Atakora and Donga Departments of Benin.

Koutammakou, the Land of the Batammariba is a cultural landscape designated in 2004 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Togo. The area features traditional mud tower-houses which remain the preferred style of living. The traditional mud houses are known as a national symbol of Togo. Many of the mud houses have two floors and some of them have a flat roof. In 2008, to complete the inscription of the site to World Heritage, the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, headed by Rieks Smeets, set up the « Safeguarding of the Cultural Intangible Heritage of Batammariba », from the 2003 Convention. Lomé Grand Market is a large market place in the city of Lomé, the capital of Togo. Located near Lomé Cathedral near the city centre, the market often has live African music by local performers.
The market, referred to in French as Grand Marché (Main Market) consists of three sections, known locally as Atipoji, Asigame and Assivito. The market occupies an entire city block in Lomé. The majority of the vendors are women and children.

These great businesswomen who by their stories of success, competition and dark magic have rocked the childhood of a generation of Africans, the economic heart of the country after the Autonomous Port of Lome .

Close to the Sacred Heart Cathedral is the Lomé Market , where most of the daily trade is held.

You will find almost everything. Most of the trade is led by women in colorful traditional outfits.

Women dominate much of the country's household economy. It is imperative that you visit this market. He is bubbling with vitality and energy.

The hubbub of voices mingles with the sound of recorded African music. There are children everywhere, who help their mother or who play in the crowd: it is a living picture of urban activity.

Activities extend beyond its walls. In the neighboring streets, hawkers and merchants are engaged in a lively trade and many carry their shop on the head.

From the market, the streets fan out in all directions and it is a pleasure to stroll there. the visitor finds many displays and shops selling African clothing and handicrafts .
