British Columbia RVing : Places to stop on the road to Nelson
Driving our RV on Highway 6 from Vernon to Nelson brought through the heart of the Kootenay Rockies in British Columbia. It was a beautiful scenic drive with stops in Cherryville, Kaslo and Nakusp. We also stopped for an amazing forest hike through the Retallack Cedar Trail. One of the highlights was taking Izzy on the Needles cable ferry. Traveling British Columbia in Western Canada in our RV led us to some incredible lakes and scenery but the roads aren't for the faint of heart. RV living is the best way to explore British Columbia for sure.
Drive through Kaslo BC and Whitewater Creek Trail
We do a quick drive through Kaslo, New Denver, and Silverton BC. Kaslo is a cool little town at the end of Kootenay Lake BC, there are lots of hippies and artists in Kaslo. We also hike the Whitewater Creek trail between Kaslo and New Denver, it is famous for Grizzly viewing.

Canada Trip 2016
Country: Canada
When: April (5th to 22nd) 2016
Weather: snow the first week, then sunny days with cool breeze, mostly 9 to 15 degrees CELSIUS. Canadians told me it was the best April in years. Guess I got lucky!
Fun Fact: I covered 9550 km of Canada in 17 days. 6550km was by train and bus, 3000 was driving for one week!
The trip:
Went from Toronto to Vancouver by train, it took 4 days (Via Rail, The Canadian - awesome experience! Great for solo travelers and couples).
Later, took a Greyhound bus to Calgary (I don't recommend the bus, if you are in Vancouver and decide to do some road trip around Alberta it is best to drive from Vancouver, IMHO. Or take the train to Jasper and rent a car there. When in good weather, roads in Canada are in great driving condition. Also, the fellow drivers with whom you'll share the road usually are very good drivers and also very friendly, driving in Canada is a great experience!)
Once in Calgary, I rented a car (a Nissan March at Enterprise, recommend!) and drove for 8 hours from Calgary to Nelson through a longer, more scenic, route.
Stayed for 3 nights in a very cozy cabin at the lake near Kaslo. I strongly recommend! The owners are nice people and the cabin is very neat, with lots of entertainment options for inside days and beautiful clean nature for outside days. Solo travelers and couples can enjoy the solitude in nature, families can enjoy lots of space and activities with kids!
Later, I drove back from Nelson to Banff and stayed for 3 nights at the Juniper Hotel, King Valley Suite. Great suite with a beautiful view of Banff! I strongly recommend this hotel!
Went to Lake Louise, it was still frozen so we tourists got to walk over the ice, but I don't recommend that because it can be dangerous - yes, do what I say, not what I do!
Drove through Icefields Parkway. Please, PLEASE!!!, if you stay in Banff or Jasper, don't dismiss a ride through Icefields Parkway, it was one of the coolest things I saw in my life (most of the footage in this video was made there). Yes, it is a drive of a lifetime! Went in April, so it wasn't packed with tourists, the mountains still had lots of snow and the road was in excellent driving condition!
Stayed my last day in Canada at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel, so I could rest and be ready for the early flight back to Brazil!
