Riviera Kaštela in 4k | Croatia
Riviera Kaštela
An unbroken line of seven towns, clustered around old towers, or castles (the local word for which is kaštel) welcomes visitors with the historical tales of the Kaštela Riviera. In the summer nights, the stages of Kaštela host traditional Dalmatian music and tell the tale of their own local Romeo and Juliet. Kaštela Riviera shows off its past in the shape of an impressive sequence of sixteen fortifications equipped with rotating bridges. Along these old strongholds, the seven towns which were once separate - Sućurac, Gomilica, Kambelovac, Lukšić, Stari, Novi and Štafilić are nowadays jointly called the City of Kaštela.
Activities in Kaštela
Kaštela Riviera is situated along the coast of Kaštela Bay and every place has beautiful beaches where you can enjoy the sea.
When you get hungry there are numerous restaurants where you can try delicious local cuisine and exquisite wine.
When it comes to nightlife, Kaštela fosters a long tradition of hosting a summer festival of culture and entertainment from the beginning of July to the end of August, during which period over 100 different events are held; from classical concerts to local Klape groups, theatre plays and fisherman's nights. Kaštela has something for everyone!
Kaštela is no stranger to adrenaline activities as well! Here, guests can try sailing, paddling, tennis, scuba diving, mountain climbing, hiking and cycling.
Natural heritage
Beauty of Kaštela inspired many poets, including the famous poet Andrija Kačić Miočić. In Kaštel Štaflić you will find an olive tree by the name of Mastrinka. It is a huge tree that is over 1500 years old and is assumed that it's brought from either south Italy or Greece. It was declared a monument to nature in 1990.
Another important natural monument is an oak tree near the Romanesque Church of Saint Cosmas and Damian in Kaštel Gomilica which attracts visitors with its size and beauty.
There is also a park over century old in Kaštel Stari and many other mysteries awaiting curious visitors who will uncover all the secrets of Kaštela.
If beautiful scenes from our video made you fall in love with Kaštela, we're not sorry!
Make your way over there this summer!

Day 21 #raileu Trip: Zagreb to Split
This is Day 21 of my #raileu trip where I travel around Europe on behalf of Traveldudes using a Global Flexi InterRail pass, which has been kindly provided by ACPRail. I survived the night train so, in this episode, I go in search of good weather. It seems elusive but do I find it? Watch to find out.
Kastela, Kroatien
Strandabschnitt in Kastela. Aufnahme vom 05.07.09.
Split, Croatia; Greek Isles & Turkey Cruise
Visit to Split, Croatia at our 7 nights Greece Islands & Turkey Cruise from Venice.
The Cruise port is located 10 minutes walk from the old town.
Split was originally built as a castle in the year 300 but it was 400 years later transformed into a city. An elegant promenade with palm trees (picture). We walked around town looking at the sights. An old town with very narrow streets, palaces and church walled.

10 Things to do in Pula, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Pola)
Pula was our first introduction to Croatia and what a way to start! Located on the Istrian peninsula, this seaside town is home to Roman ruins, ancient temples, and some delicious pizza. The town won us over right from day one, so in this video, we’re going to take you on a tour of Pula and show you some of the highlights:
The amphitheatre was built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time the Colosseum in Rome was going up. What’s even more shocking is how well preserved it is; this is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre with all four side towers and three stories still standing.
As a travel tip, if you visit during the summer months, you can catch numerous events at the amphitheatre, including concerts, movie screenings, and even reenactments of games from Ancient Rome.
When it comes to boat tours, the most popular destination is , a group of small islands that sit out on the Adriatic Sea.
The islands have a few archaeological and cultural sites but though admission to the park used to be free, these days you have to join one of the official excursions arranged by the park or local tourist agencies.
As for Pula Cathedral, it turns out it was closed when we tried to visit, so we can only show you the outside.
After all that wandering around town, it was finally time for lunch. We arrived at Jupiter Pizzeria just as they were opening and didn’t waste any time grabbing a seat on their outdoor terrace.
The fortress we spotted turned out to be Pula Castle, also known as Kaštel. Located atop a hill right in the centre of Pula, this fortress was built by the Venetians during the 17th century.
Admission was 20 kuna per person and there were two different museums exhibits to visit, however, we’d argue that the main draw are the views.
Over the course of the centuries, the Temple of Augustus has seen many uses from a Christian church to a grain storehouse, but at present, it houses a very small 1-room museum – and when we say small, we mean you can visit in 5 minutes!
The Roman Mosaic is just a short walk from the Forum, so it’s worth the little detour down back streets. This incredible well-preserved floor depicts the Punishment of Dirce, which is straight out of Greek mythology.
