Cave of the Lakes
In the village Kastria of Achaia , 60km from Tripoli and 9 Km from Kleitoria , lies the famous “Cave of the Lakes”.
It is a rare creation of Nature. Apart from its labyrinth of corridors, its mysterious galleries and its strange stalactite formations, the “Cave of the Lakes” has something exclusively unique that does not exist in other well known caves. Inside the cave there is a string of cascading lakes forming three different levels that establish its uniqueness in the world.
The cave is an old subterranean river whose explored length is 1980 meters. In winter when the snow melts, the cave is transformed into a subterranean river with natural waterfalls. In the summer months, part of the cave dries up revealing a lace-work of stone-basins and dams of up to 4 m. in height. The rest of the cave retains water permanently throughout the year in 13 picturesque lakes.
The developed part of the cave is currently 500 meters long. It includes artistic lighting. The visitor enters the cave through an artificial tunnel which leads directly to the second floor. The dimensions of this part of the cavern create awe, rapture, admiration. The passage from lake to lake is possible by small man-made bridges.
At the cave's lower floor, human and animal fossils were found, among which that of a hippopotamus. This part of the cave is intended to become a biological cave laboratory of international standing.

Inside the Peloponnese - Greece HD Travel Channel
Our journey leads us into the inside of the Peloponnese. Along the coast of the Gulf of Corinth, we head west to Trapeza. From here we take a turn to the south along the monastery Megaspiläon that stucks like a bird nest on a rock wall. In the small town of Rogo we visit the memorial for the victims of the Nazi terror regime. Here, the entire male population of the village was massacred here in the World War II.
After a drive through valleys and high mountain passes and a short visit to the Cave of the Lakes (Spileo ton Limnon) at Kastria, we reach the historic city of Mantinea. The city was often in conflict with Sparta, was destroyed and rebuilt with the help of Thebes and later destroyed again by Slavs . Here is one of the most unusual churches in Greece. During the construction of the church one tried to combine all architectural styles.
Before we leave the highland, we enjoy a marvellous view to the gulf of Argos.

Greece honeymoon
Greece has been an attraction for international visitors since antiquity for its rich and long history, Mediterranean coastline and beaches.
Greece has more than 16,000 kilometers (9,320 miles) of coastline, 200,000 beaches, 6,000 islands (and islets).
Greece's coastline is by far the longest coastline in the Mediterranean sea, and the tenth longest in the world. The deepest point in the Mediterranean Sea is called the Calypso Deep, it is located in the Ionian Sea south-west of Pylos in Greece, and is 5,267 meters deep (17,280 feet).
The quality of coastal bathing waters in Greece is systematically monitored since 1988 (according to Directive 76/160/EEC), and since then Greece has been receiving excellent reports on its bathing water sites, with more than 95% of them meeting the most stringent guide values (excellent quality).
Greece and Cyprus have the cleanest coastal bathing waters in Europe. Most beaches have shallow, calm, crystal clear waters that make them ideal for young children and families.
Greek summer is always hot, calm, sunny, cloudless and dry and the Greek sea is blue, clear and safe, not only health-wise but also due to the fact that encounters with dangerous/venomous sea creatures and organisms is extremely rare in Greece, as such species are not endemic to the Mediterranean region.

Melissani fell in to escape the love or the God Pana, then the roof collapsed during an earthquake and the lake appeared. A magical place, one out of fairytales, Lake Melissani will astonish you. Crystal clear waters, the sun lighting the interior, natural beauty but careful, its really cold if you swim! Take the boat ride its great, listen to the tour guide who is a pure Kefalonian, funny and a bit crazy in every good manner ;-) should you travel to Kefalonia, don't forget to visit this one...
