Welcome to Khao Yai National Park, the largest national park in Thailand at 2,000 sqkm. It's only a two hour drive from Bangkok and it's home to over 70 species of mammals.
We joined Green Leaf tours to an epic day searching for elephants and gibbons. We spotted a herd of elephants but it was very difficult to see them in the thick bush.
After a 45 minute hike into the forest we ran into a family of Gibbons. The best time to see these amazing primates is in the morning hours. You can often hear their howls before you see them.
We then headed to the visitor center to get some lunch, where we encountered some more wildlife and we had our first elephant sighting.
Our final stop of the day was Haew Suwat Waterfall. You may recognize it because this is the waterfall that Leonardo Di Caprio jumps off of in the movie The Beach.
