What happened to VERACRUZ, MEXICO?!?
Our 1st time in Veracruz, Mexico! After a week in Puerto de Veracruz, we're thinking, WHAT THE HECK happened here?
►Learn Spanish like us!
During our time in Veracruz City, we enjoyed some time at the beach, visited Boca del Rio (a suburb of Heroica Veracruz), went to the Veracruz aquarium, chased crabs, spent some time on the Veracruz Malecon, and explored a bit of what this port city has to offer.
We were thoroughly surprised by many aspects of the city, including some absolutely mouthwatering food local to Veracruz: consomé, picadas, and platano relleno. With how little tourism there is in Veracruz, Veracruz the question we're asking is, what happened to this place? It seems like a once thriving beach city is now practically a ghost town by comparison. Still, the largest and oldest port in Mexico remains incredibly active. We saw huge ships coming into the city continuously throughout our time here.

TIPS FOR TRAVELING TO VERACRUZ, MEXICO:
1. Wear shoes on the beach. We saw lots of glass on every beach we visited throughout Veracruz City.
2. Budget for your trip. We found Puerto de Veracruz to be much more expensive than other Mexican cities.
3. Expect to drive to your destinations in Veracruz City. Some areas are more walkable than others, but most places will be a 10-20 minute drive away. At the time of creating this video, Uber was not available in the area. There are lots of cabs in the area and also public buses.
4. You might need to cook at home. There are no shortage of seafood restaurants in Veracruz, but we found the number of restaurants overall to be much lower than in some cities.
5. When looking for a place to stay in Veracruz, Veracruz you'll probably want to find one with air conditioning. During our time here, it was 80+ degrees during the day with high humidity.

Backpackers trip in Central America
All people can be divided into two groups: some spend their entire lives where they were born, while others wander the world in search of the best places. Thousands of people over many centuries have left their homes and set off on a journey to discover new lands and continents.
The study, mastering and enslavement of America began with the Caribbean Islands — and accidentally brought the caravels of Columbus there. Then they moved a little further West and hit the continent in this area of Central America and Mexico.
This area will be the purpose of the next stage of the project World without visa. In this route, I have included Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.
To travel around Central America is very dangerous. It is one of the region of the world that is most populated with gangsters. Here tourists are not only victims of pick-pocketting but are also robbed. The vast majority of bandits are armed with firearms and they do not hesitate to use them.
But this region has so much to offer, that it is worth the risk. The ruins of Mayan cities hiding in the deep jungle, active volcanoes, the white sandy beaches of the Caribbean sea, and the architectural gems of colonial Mexico and Guatemala.

Principales Embalses de Extremadura (I) / Major Dams of Extremadura (I) [IGEO.TV]
Extremadura is the region with the most kilometers of interior coast and freshwater largest reserves the whole of Europe. Extremadura keeps numerous surprises for visitors in a natural environment marked by water: to the north the great mountain ranges of Central System, in the center and east, the imposing massif south Villuercas and Sierra Morena. Only your name says it all Extreme and hard, infernal weather. The unbearably hot summers and bitterly cold winters. But despite this or because of it the region is the jewel of Spain. It's not just a jewel in the amount of reservoirs per m2, if also by the quality of them. The whole strip between the great rivers Guadiana and Tagus is full of small and large reservoirs of extraordinary quality.
Extremadura distributes its water from three river basins, the Tagus, the Guadiana and the Guadalquivir, but is structured around two rivers that originate outside the region, the Tagus and the Guadiana. It's huge expanse of water covering the 28 dams of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura (four of them among the ten largest capacity in the country: La Serena with 3,219 cubic hectometers, and Cijara 1,505 in the province of Badajoz, and the Alcantara with 3,160 and 1,446 Valdecañas in Cáceres), totaling more than 1,400 miles of shoreline. To match these 1,400-odd kilometers should add seacoasts seven southern provinces: the 122 Huelva, Cadiz 285, 208, Malaga, Granada 81, 249, Almería, Murcia 274, and 244 kilometers of those of Alicante.
Sweet Costas calls fledgling local tourism, which promotes water sports. These are huge reservoirs of Extremadura, a community known for its numerous and important tourist attractions, but not both, given their recent promotion by the surprising and suggestive Sweet Costs 1,400 kilometers.

The Master Plan for Villa del Sol is designed to offer two phases of residential neighborhood style development. Each phase offers high end infrastructure unique to the Villa del Sol concept. All utilities; electricity, water and telephone are underground to give the neighborhood an open and unobstructed view of the tropical mountain vistas. Currently only phase one is being sold and there are only 4 lots left in this first phase ranging between 500 -645m2. Phase two is yet to commence. 2 nice homes have already been built and 2 more are under construction. The neighborhood convenience is enhanced by the creation of curb and gutter and cul de sac design along with meter wide sidewalks to encourage walking and bicycling to the beach and other local destinations. Additionally, each phase will have a maintained community park to enjoy. These parks are landscaped with fruit trees and tropical flowering plants and shrubs indicative of Costa Rica's coastal region. You will find, bananas, papayas, pineapples, oranges and limes to name just a few of the treats just down the block from your home. The park will also provide shade trees and a Bar-B-Q area for social and informal gatherings. For privacy in a tropical beach community setting, the developers have planted green fences throughout the neighborhood. These flowering fences provide an attractive privacy wall over 6 feet tall between each property offered.
The Master Plan also addresses the guarantee of quiet enjoyment often overlooked in other Costa Rican developments. CC&R's designed to maintain the residential look and feel of the properties as well as approved uses have been recorded in the National Registry of Costa Rica. Your investment is protected and will appreciate in value.
EXPLORE MEXICO: Veracruz City Highlights Tour
In this episode of Explore Mexico, take a short walking highlights tour in the city of Veracruz with Mike Vondruska.
Highlights Tour -
The city of Veracruz is located on the Gulf of Mexico 250 miles east of Mexico City. Veracruz city has been called the Gateway to Mexico because of its deep water port. Cargo ships have docked here ever since the Spanish conquered Mexico in the early 1500's.
When visiting the city of Veracruz, be prepared to speak Spanish because very few people there speak English. Also, exchange your foreign currency for Mexican Pesos. Almost everywhere US dollars will not be accepted.
Here are some of the Highlights you will see during this quick walking tour:
- Plaza de Armas (the main central plaza)
- Malecon (the prominade near the ocean)
- Cafe de la Parroquia
- San Juan de Ulua fortress
- El Baluarte de Santiago (another fort which was a part of the walled city which at one time surrounded Veracruz for protection)
