Best Places To Live On Vancouver Island - Often called Paradise
- Best Places To Live On Vancouver Island.
I’ve lived on Vancouver Island for most of my life. In my opinion the best places to live on Vancouver Island can be narrowed down to a few communities.
The Comox Valley - half way up the island on the east coast. Recently voted one of the best places to retire. Offers endless outdoor activities between Mt Washington and the ocean. Skiing, golfing, boating and hiking. The International Airport makes travel a breeze. I grew up here. It's the best place in the world to be a kid.
Heading South on Vancouver Island…a few other best places to live on Vancouver Island are Parksville and Qualicum. Charming communities with long sandy beaches have become very popular retirement meccas for its mild climate.
Nanaimo, The Harbour City or Hub City for it’s central location. The ferry terminals take you either to North Vancouver or to the main Vancouver ferry terminals in Tsawwassen. A small international airport and from here you can easily drive to Long Beach and Tofino on the West Coast. Always something to see and do in the harbor.
Victoria, the largest city on the island. The most beautiful place on earth as described by most residents so most definitely agreed one of the best places to live on Vancouver Island. Often called Canada’s California as it is the most temperate spot on the Island and all of Canada. It’s a lovely city with diversified culture, history and lots of attractions. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and home of the great University of Victoria making for a very stable economy.
And now for my favorite of the best places to live on Vancouver Island…Sidney. Just north of Victoria is the beautiful town of Sidney. A small seaside community on the end of the peninsula where the ferry lands from Vancouver. A gateway to all of the Gulf Islands. It is also home to the Victoria International Airport making travel a breeze. In my opinion and that of most who live here….the prettiest of them all.
There are far too many places to explore and things to see to be stuck indoors, which is why you see me out here enjoying the day in the middle of the week. Most of my friends are at work right now. I have the most amazing work – I love what I do and it allows me the time and flexibility to be here.

Constructed without compromise 20 years ago, The Loghouse Pub was built to stand the test of time. Each log was handpicked from an area near Nanaimo by master craftsman and builder Pat Lintaman. He spared no expense. The custom designed carpet was made of the finest wool in England and all the fixtures and fittings were made of solid brass.
Originally built in 1987, owners Paul and Lorraine Langlois were successful in opening The Loghouse Pub. In the early 90's, a local resident named Jack Bengay won the Lotto 6-49 and purchased the pub from The Langlois.
Then in 1999, Westshore realtor Ron Cheeke presented Jack with three different offers -- all from separate clients; one being local Bear Mountain developer, Len Barrie. Unsuccessful to negotiate a deal acceptable to both parties, Ron put his own group of investors together and successfully bought the pub in October of 1999.
The summer of 2004 saw dramatic changes with the construction of The Loghouse Liquor Store. Approximately 5000 sq. ft. of building was added to the existing log structure with a complete real estate & development division upstairs for Ron, which allowed him to oversee all operations of the pub and liquor store.
Following the liquor store construction, Ron ventured out again to create BC's first non-smoking patio of approximately 1300 sq. ft. This accommodated 60 seats complete with palm trees, music, and a traditional rustic flavor. Voted the 'Nicest Patio on the Westshore', you can sit back and enjoy a nice cool margarita on a hot sunny day!
In the winter of 2007, Ron bought out his last partner, Ed Lubick (now retired), and became the sole owner of The Loghouse Pub & Liquor Store.
Come in and you will be treated to a first class experience of 'Victoria's Coldest Beer' and a vast selection of wines and spirits in our magnificent liquor store, operated meticulously by manager Lori Reese.
Our varied menu, complimented by regular drink and lunch specials, guarantees that you'll find something to please your palate, and generous portions ensure that you will return. With a regular cast of characters, you're sure to have great food and a great time!
Please feel free to contact us about having us host your next big function!

Victoria BC's Best Beaches
Victoria is on Vancouver Island and has DOZENS of great beaches. This is my collection of the BEST for different reasons, the best for science explorers, the best for birders and history buffs, the best for urban wind sports, the best for families, and the best to kickback before leaving the island. See the beaches from the air, the ground, in rain and sun, and hopefully you'll save some time on a visit and find the right one for you. Aerial Video from Phantom and Q500 quadcopters, Ground and water video from GoPro Hero3, Lumix FZ1000 and Sony Rx100M3. Edited in Final Cut Pro and music created in Garageband 10.

Temagami, formerly spelled as Timagami, is a municipality in northeastern Ontario, Canada, in Nipissing District with Lake Temagami at its heart.
The Temagami region is known as n'Daki Menan, the homeland of the area's Aboriginal community, most of whom are Anishnaabe (Ojibwe), living on Bear Island. The official name for this group is the Temagami First Nation. However, a larger group that includes these people, plus non-status residents and some non-residents is called the Teme-Augama Anishnabai.
Some of the main tourist attractions within the community include old-growth red and white pine, Lake Temagami, Caribou Mountain, fishing, showings of Grey Owl from the 1930s, and over 4,000 km of canoe routes.
It is also known as the staging point for cottage vacationing and wilderness canoeing trips on Lake Temagami, in Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park, and vast tracts of wilderness in the area. There are several outfitters here that cater to outdoor activity, including Smoothwater Outfitters and Ecolodge.
The community is home to the Finlayson Point Provincial Park, which itself offers access to Lake Temagami. An excellent view of the entire Temagami area is offered by the Temagami Fire Tower on Caribou Mountain, a renovated 100-foot (30 m)-tall fire lookout tower that visitors can climb for a small fee. The Temagami Fire Tower was last used in the 1970s to spot fires. The original fire tower built here was 45 feet (14 m) high and made of square timber.
The Municipality of Temagami also includes the communities of Lake Temagami, Marten River, and Temagami North.
