Stop #10 on our RTW trip. We spent some time in Limoux, a small town in the south of France. We were able to see and understand the small town living culture. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to visit, and provide some volunteer work.

Visit Aude Video (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
Enjoy a video glimpse of the Aude area (named after the River Aude) - from Carcassonne to the Mediterranean Coast. The Aude is a department (area) of the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France.
Locally this department is known as Cathar Country after the Christian religious movement that appeared in the Languedoc region of France and other parts of Europe in the 11th century and flourished in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Aude is located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains. Aude is a very popular area for tourism - great sandy beaches on the coast, skiing, rambling and historic places to visit such as the Carcassonne Cite. Accommodation: from B&B, hotels through to camping is available in the Aude.

Carcassonne New Town
While the main attraction at Carcassonne is the incredible Old Town inside the fortified wall, there is also an attractive new town to enjoy, although it is not that new, since many of the buildings were constructed 300 years ago. The main square and pedestrian mall are very pleasant and offer a nice diversion from your main explorations inside the Carcassonne fortress.

Is there anything much to do in rural france?

The Cathar Country is a tourist term used by the department of Aude, which is the department at the center of the country where the lords and the people had converted to Catharism. This term concentrates on Corbières, sits of the majority of royal citadels improperly qualified some of Cathar castles. The promoters of this term tend to impose this tourist slogan instead of words, the more justified historically and culturally (Catharism did not leave a religious legacy in the South, the Southwest and the Southeast of France, because that religion disappeared after 1307, after evangelistic missions undertaken by the Preachers). From hotels to restaurants through the cottages, rooms and guest tables, wine cellars, shops, gourmet products, lamb, pork, beef, poultry, honey, milk, bread , arts and crafts ... a whole range of products and services certified.
