7. Nairobi Animal OrphanageMount Kenya National Park Nairobi National Park is a national park in Kenya. Established in 1946, the national park was Kenya's first. It is located approximately 7 kilometres south of the centre of Nairobi, Kenya's capital city, with an electric fence separating the park's wildlife from the metropolis. Nairobi's skyscrapers can be seen from the park. The proximity of urban and natural environments has caused conflicts between the animals and local people and threatens animals' migration routes.Still, despite its proximity to civilisation and relative small size for an African national park, Nairobi National Park boasts a large and varied wildlife population. Migrating herbivores gather in the park during the dry season, and it is one of Kenya's most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

This is a great spot for a chilled-out picnic or restaurant lunch in a peaceful rustic paradise only 30 minutes from the hectic urban life of Nairobi. Directions
Take the Limuru Road heading north past the Village Market mall as far as the Banana Hills road junction . Turn off to the right (north) and follow this road up through the bustling Muchatha (2km from the junction) and Banana Hills (5km) areas emerging back out into the countryside, passing the Kentmere Club on your right (10km - and on to the junction at All Saint's church signposted Limuru Girls School.
Turn right here on the tar road and proceed approx 1.5km (just before Kiambethu Farm (on the left). Turn right here onto a dirt road which heads down and up past the school and then after a left hand bend loops around the top of the ridge along a jeep track to the Butt Farm / Waterfalls Inn gate. Pay the Kshs 300/person entry fee here and proceed to the parking area in front of the farmhouse.
From here, simply follow the signposted footpath east for approx 150m past the restaurant, across a grassy picnic area and then down a broad-stepped trail through the forest to the waterfall. The overgrown jeep track which you see ahead of you at the corner where you headed down to access the falls continues west through the lovely cool forest and loops up and around to the right to emerge in a grassy sloping field heading back up to the start (approx 550m/20 mins walking distance). This track is also navigable with a little care (narrow in places) by 4WD vehicles (and probably normal cars) and there is just enough space to do a nifty 5-7 point turn around where it meets the stepped foot trail coming down from the farm.
Africa Outdoors:Kereita Hike & Zip lining
#Tembeakenya na #AfricaOutdoors
The Kereita Forest at the southern-most end of the Aberdares range has interesting hiking trails, zip line and natural features like the Kereita Cave and Waterfall. The trails were established by Kijabe Environment Volunteers (KENVO), a local community based organization that works to conserve this rich biodiversity. One of these trails, the Carbacid trail, leads to Kereita Waterfall on Gatamaiyu River, and the adjacent cave that is home to a small bat colony.
Kereita Forest bears the distinction of being the site of mass graves for over 5,000 victims of revenge attacks on the local population by the British colonial administration. These reprisals were triggered by the so called Lari Massacre in March 1953, after Mau Mau combatants attacked and killed about 100 loyalists in this area, including the local colonial Chief Kahangari.

Africa Outdoors: Ngare Ndare Forest Excursion
#Tembeakenya na #AfricaOutdoors
Ngare Ndare Forest is a lush indigenous forest at the foothills of Mt. Kenya. Azure pools glisten at the bottom of waterfalls and 200 year old trees stretch into the canopy supporting a rich variety of bird and animal life. The forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to Mount Kenya, and one which elephants have been using for centuries. The canopy walkway is a 40 ft. high aerial bridge of wiremesh and cables meandering through the tree canopy and extending 450 metres long. The elevated canopy walkway ends at a wooden platform 30ft. high, where you can relax and enjoy a view of the river from this elevated vantage point. Elephants and buffaloes frequently come here to drink and wallow, and one can enjoy a drink or a meal at the lofty leafy deck. Ngare Ndare forest also hosts a huge number of bird species. They have trained and experienced guides who help visitors to spot and identify various birds within the forest.
