A nice place to visit with family when you're up north in cottage country. There is a marine restaurant (with a nice outdoor patio) close by with awesome nachos. A few steps away is an ice-cream shop. Loads of free parking.
Built in 1977, its a 'one of a kind' unique engineering design, carrying boats over the land barrier at Big Chute. It replaces the original marine railway which was built in 1917 and is still there, but now out of service.

CP Holiday Train in Port Moody
The CP Holiday Train makes its way across Canada in December every year. Along the way it stops in communities, puts on mini outdoor Christmas concerts and helps collect donations for local food banks. Lower Mainland stops most years include Agassiz, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam.
This video features the CP Holiday Train at its stop in Port Moody. The concert at the event in 2018 (and music featured in the video) was with the Sam Roberts Band as well as Kelly Prescott, Tracey Brown and Tyson Venegas.
The scene of the train going through the intersection at the end is of the CP Holiday Train heading to Port Coquitlam which was its next stop after Port Moody.

Townsend Bay is away from the main channel of south Lake Joe. It’s a safe place for kids to learn boating and water skills or for people who prefer to swim or wade in calm waters. There’s plenty of shallow water with sandy bottom. Deeper water off the dock and a swim platform with diving board. The water it about 4 feet deep at the edge of the dock and deepens to about 8 feet about 15 feet away from the dock where you will find a water trampoline. To the left of the dock & for the entire dock length plus 20 to 25 feet wide the area is clear and has a beautiful sandy bottom. At the side of the boathouse is a purpose installed ramp for PWC’s, 2 large slips inside and one outside. There’s also a bathroom at dock level as well as one upstairs in the boathouse. The large deck provides full sun or shade. It’s a great place for waterside living and perfect muskoka sunset evenings. Inside the cottage you will find wide plank pine floors, tasteful wood trim and traditional bead board. Both reflecting Muskoka history and current life at the same time, Sandy Shore is the kind of cottage where family memories are made from generation to generation. A perfect year round cottage, it serves as a getaway throughout the year.
