Medolla is a comune in the Province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 45 kilometres northwest of Bologna and about 25 kilometres northeast of Modena. Medolla borders the following municipalities: Bomporto, Camposanto, Cavezzo, Mirandola, San Felice sul Panaro, San Prospero.

Earthquake damage north of Carpi, Italy

There were two major earthquakes in Emiglia Romagna on 20 May 2012 and 29 May 2012 which caused 27 deaths and widespread damage. You can see in my film from Carpi, that the magnificent cathedral there was still covered in scaffolding four years later and off bounds to the public. In this film I visit the location of a former restaurant which collapsed. The restaurant was located on the road leading from Carpi towards Fosoli, another place you can see in a film on this site.

The earthquake in the early hours of 20 May 2012 had a magnitude of 6.1 and the epicentre was around Finale Emilia, Bondeno and Sermide. Two aftershocks of magnitude 5.2 occurred, one approximately an hour after the main even] and another approximately eleven hours after the main event. Seven people were killed. A friend described it to me as being like the sound of a train passing underground.

The earthquake of 29 May 2012 was around 10km below the ground and had a magnitude of 5.8 with the epicentre in Medolla. It took 20 lives.
