Mogilitsa is a village in the Rhodope Mountains in southernmost Bulgaria, part of Smolyan municipality, Smolyan Province. As of September 2005, it has a population of 483 and the mayor is Mitko Chochev. Mogilitsa lies at 41°30′N 24°39′E, 1,041 m above mean sea level, near the border with Greece and the upper course of the river Arda, 35 kilometres southeast of Smolyan. Mogilitsa is famous for Agushevi konatsi , the 19th-century winter estate of a rich Ottoman feudal lord, Agush Aga, and his son. 1. Bachkovo Monastery Bachkovo
The Bachkovo Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos , archaically the Petritsoni Monastery or Monastery of the Mother of God Petritzonitissa is a major Eastern Orthodox monastery in Southern Bulgaria. It is located on the right bank of the Chepelare River, 189 km from Sofia and 10 km south of Asenovgrad, and is directly subordinate to the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The monastery is known and appreciated for the unique combination of Byzantine, Georgian and Bulgarian culture, united by the common faith.

The Rhodopes - Paths of life
The region of the Upper Stream Valley of Arda River is developing as an attractive tourist destination for hiking and cave tourism offering visits to caves with adjusted access and to wild caves. The area was named after the longest river in the Rhodope Mountains -- Arda River, and it has kept its precious natural and cultural heritage. Here is the national architectural and cultural heritage site Agushevi Konaci, a feudal mansion complex unique for the Balkan region and the ruins of Kaleto fortresses near Koshnitsa and Mogilitsa villages. Twenty three karst caves from the region have been mapped. The most popular of which are Uhlovitsa cave, Borikovska cave, Nadarska cave, Golubovitsa cave system and Tipitseto cave. There are more than 20 different trails -- hiking, biking, and horse riding which start from the villages of Smilyan, Mogilitsa and Arda and take tourists to fabulous places where legends from the past are still alive.
