Jammu city and Tawi river: aerial journey
Aerial view of the old Jammu city and Tawi river. From the Mubarak Mandi palace to the view of the entire city along with Tawi river.
Steaming hot compared to the rest of the state, Jammu is J&K's winter capital. Pre-Independence the city was the seat of the powerful Dogra dynasty, whose palaces remain the city's most appealing sights. Religiously Hindu, Jammu dubs itself as the ‘city of temples’. Few of these temples are historically significant, and for foreign tourists, there’s little pressing need to hang around after making transport connections to Amritsar, Srinagar or Dharamsala.

Tawi River also called as Surya Putri in an ancient text is a major tributary of Chenab River and an important river in Jammu region. The Tawi rises from Kalpas Kund of Seo Dhar in the Bhaderwah in Doda district, then descends to Sudh Mahadev and finally merged with the Chenab River in Pakistan. Flowing through the city of Jammu, Tawi has divided the city into two parts, old city and new city. The water of Tawi River is the main source of water for the entire city. There are three bridges over the river, one from Gumat to Vikram Chowk, other connects Gujjar Nagar with Bahu fort area and the third one is on the city bypass near Nagrota. After flowing through the Jammu City, Tawi crosses Pakistan and joins Chenab River.

Rancer Island Kangra # हिमाचल का गोवा # Beautiful Himachal
Beautiful town Nagrota Surian also block headquarter is located near the Pong Lake. The Pong Dam Reservoir is very much approachable from Nagrota Surian, which is the main attraction due to migratory birds during various seasons. There is a small island named Rancer island between Pong Dam surrounded by this lake. You can reach this island by boat around 2 hrs journey depending upon condition of tides. It consist of some local wild animals and a pathway circling full island and offer great view of the dam. This island provides rich flora-fauna diversity especially of migratory birds during their winter sojourn to the wetland. Wildlife forest department has its rest house in Rancer Island. Take food stuff alongwith u specially when u r having children with u. One of the best attractive place I have seen in Himachal. Masrur temple (Rock cut temple), Guler (Kangra Painting) is also nearby besides Jawala ji Mandir and Chintpurni. Tourism needs to be promoted more and more in such places so that beauty of Himachal can be explored. Bathu ki ladi is another place where u can visit but only when water is less in the river as this is underwater in winters. Pathankot is just 75 Kms away from here. Rail connectivity is another advantage for this place.
Transportation to this place
• Nearest airport is Kangra Airport in Gaggal, 36 km away.
• By bus from Nurpur 60 km, from Dehra 28 km
• from Kangra 44 km, from Dharmshala 45 km, and 68 km from Palampur
Tawi bridge on river Tawi in Jammu
Four bridges have been built over Tawi river in Jammu city: Two join Gumat with Vikram Chowk and the other connects Gujjar Nagar with Bahu fort area, the third joins Bhagwati Nagar with Ratnuchak. A fifth bridge has been built on the river on the city bypass near Nagrota.
Jammu is situated at the footsteps of the mountains. Its a beautiful city with Tawi river flowing right through the middle.
Jammu is called as the City of Temples because of the fact that there are limitless number of temples around the city and also in the province. Naturally blessed by a tremendous sight seeing location it has also the potential to cater the needs of toursists, whick look History, Pilgrimage of both Hindu and Muslim faiths, Adventure sports in the proviance itself.
There are sites such as Moh maya and Mansar lake which are worthwhile visiting. Jammu City offers a buzz of the traditional bazaars and now recently built shopping centers in the suburbs.
