Grantown-on-Spey is a town in the Highland Council Area, historically within the county of Moray. Grantown on Spey was founded in 1765 as a planned settlement on a low plateau at Freuchie beside the river Spey at the northern edge of the Cairngorm mountains, about 20 miles south east of Inverness (35 miles by road). Originally called simply Grantown after Sir James Grant, on Spey was added by the burgh council in 1898.
There are no rail services to Grantown. The closest main line stations are Aviemore and Carrbridge from which trains travel North/South between Inverness and the central belt. There is also a station at Forres from which trains run between Inverness and Aberdeen. The Strathspey Railway is a heritage railway which currently runs between Aviemore and Broomhill (nr Nethy Bridge) via Boat of Garten. There is a proposal to extend this railway to Grantown.
The town is twinned with Notre-Dame-de-Monts in the Vendée, Pays-de-la-Loire, France, and Grant Town, West Virginia in the United States. Since 2011, Grantown-on-Spey has been home to Shinty club Strathspey Camanachd. There is a small museum located in Burnfield Avenue near one of the town's three free car-parks.

Carrbridge is a village in Badenoch and Strathspey in the Scottish Highlands. It lies off the A9 road on the A938 road, west of Skye of Curr, southeast of Findhom Bridge, near Bogroy. It has the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands and the nearby ancient pine forest contains the Landmark Forest Adventure Park.
Carrbridge is about 10 km north of Aviemore and forms a gateway to the Cairngorms National Park. It was an early centre for skiing in Scotland. In the 2001 census the village had a population of 708 people, with the majority employed in tourism.
Until the 1980s bypass was constructed, the A9 road ran straight through the village. Carrbridge is served by Carrbridge railway station on the Highland Main Line. Local debate still rages regarding the name Carrbridge itself, with some preferring to see it hyphenated to Carr-bridge. The word Carr has nothing to do with motorised transport but is derived from the Gaelic word for boggy area.
Carrbridge's most famous landmark is the old packhorse bridge, from which the village is named. The bridge, built in 1717, is the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands. It was severely damaged in the muckle spate of 1829 which left it in the condition seen today. It is now unstable and is recommended only to be viewed from afar. Jumping off the bridge into the River Dulnain below had long been a popular pastime for younger locals and the more adventurous tourists.
Landmark Forest Adventure Park is set in an ancient pine forest at the south end of the village. It has a variety of attractions, including a wild water coaster, steam powered saw mill and the UK's first nature trail, Treetop Trail. There has been a Boys' Brigade campsite in the village for many years. Duthil Old Parish Church and Churchyard, located nearby, includes many graves and memorials of Clan Grant.

OFF-GRID CABIN IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS - LOTS OF SNOW!
Hey, we hope you enjoyed our video.
In this video we take an incredible trip, in our VW Caravelle T4 van, Oliver, all the way to an off-grid cabin.
Along route we stop off in the Yorkshire Dales (where it was super cold!) then head into Edinburgh and find a beach! Staying 2 nights in our van.
From Edinburgh we then head straight, well after stopping for 3 hours in a solid traffic jam on the A9, we then head to THE LAZY DUCK - Woodmans Hut Log cabin for 3 nights!
What an incredible place, It snowed every day for us, we spent a night in the wood fired hot tub gazing at the perfect starry sky, we explore through the woods and even make it to the little town of Nethy Bridge (awesome cafe here).
Leaving the cabin we made a pit stop in the Cairgorm Mountans to do some much needed sledging!!
Please visit our instagrams for more photos of this trip, along with many other that we do :
