Clones Town, County Monaghan, Ireland - Ireland Attractions
Clones Town County, Monaghan, Ireland - Doesn't it feel good to be back home? It can be amazing to bring back the memories from our childhood - sure we remember things every now and again, but you cannot beat actually walking the streets where you grew up for memories ( good and bad! to come flooding back ). Hence off to Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland, the town where I grew up.
For the few who do not know - Clones is a small town in western County Monaghan, Ireland. The Clones area was part of the Border Region which was earmarked for economic development by the Irish Government due to the current below average economic growth in the area. County Monaghan is on the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland which brings its own advantages and challenges.
Walking through the town and seeing the old places which are still standing there, just about! :-)
During our walk of the town we came across a picture from 1843 for the Market House and it was amazing to see the buildings from the photo are still standing around the Diamond. Amazing.
On the Diamond we have the imposing buildings such as Ulster Bank - which sadly closed in 2016....to all the pubs, post office, credit union and more.
Checking out the tourist map, trying to decide in which direction we should go, we finally managed to go down to the Wee Abbey, just off the Diamond - a great stop for history buffs. The most imposing feature on the Diamond is the Celtic High Cross. Down the road towards Cavan, to the right - is the path to the Motte and Bailey Fort, a piece of ground showing where an old fort used to stand with an amazing view across the local area. Plenty of history here!!
Towards the bottom of Fermanagh Street is the Butter Yard and the relatively new statue of the children playing leapfrog. Pretty Nice!
Close to the Round Tower is the Ionad Cassandra Hand Centre where they used to make lace and was built in 1847, coming again to the Wee Abbey. Across the road from the Lace centre is the Round Tower and graveyard.
There are other towns which one could visit around the North of Ireland, such as Letterkenny in county Donegal ( there is also Bushmills Town which is found on the north coast of Ireland ( and you could visit Newcastle Co. Down which is a lovely place to go to if you like beaches! :-) (
Would love if you shared this video on your social media :-) Thank you!!
Newcastle County Down, Slieve Donard Hotel, Northern Ireland
Newcastle Co. Down - A glimpse of the beach town, Slieve Donard Hotel, main street and more...
Newcastle Co Down is a lovely town to visit - the beach is amazing, just off the beach is the equally impressive Slieve Donard Hotel. Newcastle Northern Ireland (not to be confused with the English city of the same name!) is a small town that nestles between the Slieve Donard Mountain and the Irish Sea - it would also be well known for the Royal County Down Golf Club.
The town is a great base for exploring the local area - Tollymore Forest Park ( Donard Park, Murlough Nature Reserve and more. There is a wide variety of B&B and hotels in the area - some amazing restaurants in the town, and loads of shops selling ice cream :-) What more do you need?
Newcastle is a small seaside resort in county Down, Northern Ireland, which is one reason why its beach is always referred to and mentioned. This small seaside resort lies on the Irish sea at the foot of Slieve Donard, one of the Mourne Mountains, and is known with its sandy beach and the Royal County Down Golf Club. With all these different features which the town is known with, it is trying to promote itself as the activity resort for Northern Ireland - since we love the place, we could say that it will be able to win this.
Newcastle is not just a place that Irish people tend to come to from across the country, but it is also a touristic destination for the tourists coming from abroad to visit the country. There are different things that tourists come for and the most important of them is Slieve Donard since they come to walk the Mourne Mountains. In addition to this main attraction in the town, the second one is the Royal County Down Golf Club which is now recognized as the number one golf course in the world. There is also one important thing to mention when it comes to Newcastle in Northern Ireland which is the Mourne Granite which was quarried in Newcastle and shipped all around the world for many years and which was also used to make paving stones for different cities like London and New York, and was also being used to make the base for 9/11 memorial in New York - it seems that this small town at the end of the road is filled with things that serves the whole world.
These different things that might interest any person coming to visit Newcastle in Northern Ireland differ from the places which might attract tourists and give them places which they could see, such as the Tollymore Forest Park ( and the Donard Park, the Shimna River, the Murlough Nature Reserve which is located between Newcastle and Dundrum where Dundrum Castle is located and which we have been to before ( the Slidderyford Dolmen, Saint Patrick Stream, as well as Newcastle Harbour.
In this trip and while exploring Newcastle, we have visited the Slieve Donard Hotel, we have walked down the streets of the town and even came across their shopping center and the different shops and restaurants scattered around the street. One of those places of interest in this town was the Percy French Restaurant which is located inside the Slieve Donard Hotel and which is the place where the third door in the Game of Thrones movie series appeared and also one of the reasons why a lot of those fans for the movie tend to come and visit it (
There are a lot of scenes from Game of Thrones which were taken in Northern Ireland, whether it is something related to the doors that appeared throughout the movie or else general locations which might be found across the country - we believe that this movie actually succeeded at making some of these locations more famous than they really were.
The Dark Hedges ( Cushendun Caves ( Lough Neagh ( Binevenagh Mountain ( are all different locations for the movie that are all found in Northern Ireland and which are also considered touristic places - or at least some of them. The doors which appeared in the movie were found in different places like restaurants, cafes, and hotels around the country as well.
There are some places which are near Newcastle and that will be always shown through the signs that are found near the hotel, such as the Giant's Causeway ( St. Patrick's Visitor Centre, and other signs and places as well, you just have to know how to head out for them and whether they are within a walking distance or need something to take you there.
You must place Newcastle town on your list when it comes to Northern Ireland!

Phoenix Park Dublin - Largest Enclosed Recreational Space - The Amazing Phoenix Park Dublin Ireland
Dating back to the Norman times - Phoenix Park (Irish: Páirc an Fhionnuisce) is an urban park in Dublin, Ireland, lying 2–4 km west of the city centre, north of the River Liffey. Its 11 km perimeter wall encloses 707 hectares (1,750 acres); it is one of the largest enclosed recreational spaces within any European capital city
The Phoenix Park in Dublin is the largest enclosed park in any capital city in Europe - adding just another item on the list one will write about the places to visit in Dublin, Ireland. This park includes large areas of grassland and tree-lined avenues, and since the 17th century, has been home to a herd of wild fallow deer.
The history of Phoenix park goes back to 1660's when it was designed and formed as a royal hunting park before it opened to the public in 1747. For those who are coming to visit Dublin and are not local people living around, Phoenix park is only a mile and a half from O'Connell street, where people usually go for shopping, checking that historical street, and at the same time passing by the different statues found on it (
This beautiful park which people could have a walk through happens to be a home to the Zoological Gardens, Áras an Uachtaráin, and Victorian flower gardens; adding a little bit importance for the place and another reason why people - especially those interested in flowers - come inside and walk through.
There are different purposes that could be done there that change according to the person heading to the park; some people visit Phoenix Park for a run, a walk, for hurling, polo, cricket, and even other reasons and this happens because it is a place considered suitable for all these different activities.
Phoenix Park is open all year round; seven days a week and 24 hours of the day. There are different gates that lead into this park; the main gates of the park at Parkgate Street and Castleknock Gate are open 24 hours, but those side gates to the park are open from 7 AM until approximately 10:45 PM.
Today, Phoenix Park is home to the President as well as the base for An Garda Siochana HQ and Dublin Zoo. There are some important facts related to the history of this park which people who are interested about visiting it should know more about, such as the Dublin Zoo found in it and which is considered the fourth oldest zoo in Europe and where there are around 400 animals from different species living in it.
The Phoenix Park might appear large and huge for some people but - not to be surprised - it was actually larger and has been downsized to its current size to make room for the Royal Hospital at Kilmainham in 1680. While walking inside Phoenix Park, one will get introduced to history through the buildings and other things that are found there, such as the Ashtown Castle which is considered the oldest building there built in the 1430's but which has been rebuilt with stones again later on.
We know that the famous historical parks, gardens, and squares are related to some famous figures that were cherished back in their days, such as the case with Merrion Square where Oscar Wilde lived for almost 26 years and which is now considered a place to visit in Dublin ( When it comes to Phoenix Park, this time it is related to Winston Churchill who lived there between the ages of two and six in the Vice Regal Lodge, which is now the Aras, who later revealed that his first coherent memory was in the park.
Most important of all is the Wellington Monument over at the Kilmainham and River Liffey edge, which is considered the largest obelisk in Europe at 203 foot tall and which was believed to be taller if the funding did not run out. This monument commemorates the victories of the Duke of Wellington and those bronze plaques which are found at the sides represent Wellington's career and are cast from cannons captured at the battle of Waterloo.
There are different events that take place inside the Phoenix park which range between races, running marathons, as well as concerts, so it is not just a place to visit and have a walk through, it is more of a place that you could attend something at.
Coming to Dublin, the capital city of Ireland, there are different things that one could actually pass by and visit. One of the most famous is the Mansion House, where the Lord Mayor of Dublin resides ( another famous landmark is the Molly Malone statue which a lot of people tend to pass by just to take a picture ( In addition to those, there is the Four Courts along the River Liffey which one could pass by ( Leinster House ( or even having a general sightseeing tour by hopping on the hop-on hop-off bus for a tour around Dublin city( Phoenix Park Dublin
Portballintrae - Beautiful Beach Village in County Antrim
Rain or shine - Portballintrae is a beautiful place! I am working on moving there someday :-)! It has the Giants Causeway walking distance to the east and Dunluce Castle to the west. South is Bushmills and the old Bushmills Distillery. What more could anyone ask for? A population of less than 800 people - and the wild Atlantic Ocean crashing in... Runkerry Beach is the beach itself -
there is the Hotel Bayview Portballintrae in the town also.
The famous name given to this beach in county Antrim is Portballintrae but it is also locally known as Runkerry Bushfoot Strand and Blackrock, which in addition to being a beautiful beach to head out to, it is also one of the beaches which gained a scientific interest due to its geological area.
Runkerry is one of the best beach systems that could be found all around Ireland and one of the most interesting for the waves and the currents that it has, as well as the attractive scenery and the natural history of the place.
In addition to the interests found in the place itself and its entertainment system, this place has a location which we could refer to as the most perfect and that goes to the fact that it is close to different important touristic attractions which tourists usually place in their list of places to go to.
To the east of Portballintrae and within a walking distance, there is the famous Giant's Causeway which was formed from an ancient volcanic eruption and is now one of the most famous touristic attractions to be found in Northern Ireland - you will definitely find it among the recommended places there (
To the south of Portballintrae is Bushmills town which is also another location for tourists to visit and check some of the attractions which are found there ( and one of these different attractions, Bushmills Distillery is considered the most famous and the one which tourists usually head to (
These different things located just beside Runkerry beach gives the visitors the chance to check some of the other important locations and attractions found in Northern Ireland when they are done - or vice versa - but their trip will not end up being about the same place and about enjoying the beach only.
The nearest town to this bay is Portballintrae and that is one reason why it is usually referred to it with that name. Runkerry Bushfoot strand is under a mile long on the northern side of the Bush River mouth which is popular for surfing (it is actually one of the best and the most famous surfing beaches in the UK for its strong and high waves), walking, and dolphin watching - this means that you could enjoy lots of things at this beach area that comes in addition to the walk which you are going to have by the shore.
We know that when it comes to choosing the beach that will suit your interests and criteria, it will change from one person to the other and that's one reason why you will find one person liking a place you never love to be found in and hating another which you love to enjoy your time at. When it comes to Northern Ireland and the different beaches which are scattered all around the country, there are those which we will recommend and which we consider them our favorites; so in addition to Runkerry Beach in county Antrim, there is also the Crawfordsburn beach in county Antrim as well ( another option is the Ballywalter beach with its sandy shores and the perfect quality of water ( the Whiterocks beach in Portrush, county Antrim, is also a recommendation we would give to those searching for a beach they could enjoy their time at ( and there is the famous Ballygally beach which is located just beside the Ballygally Castle Hotel in county Antrim and which lots of people tend to visit for being one of Game of Thrones locations that they are trying to go to (
Choosing the beach in Northern Ireland will depend on your current location and what is the closest to you, not only that, but choosing it will depend on the kind of activity you might be aiming at. The only negative thing about the beach in Northern Ireland is the unexpected weather, so you will need to take your precautions and you might get up in the morning surprised that your plan is ruined!
Runkerry in Portballintrae is a beach to try out and which you could also enjoy lots of things located around it - just make your plan and go check the place.
Definitely when planning a visit to Northern Ireland, Portballintrae should be on the places to visit and discover. The amount of things to do in the area is excellent.

Top 10 Best Cities to Visit in UK 2017
UNITED KINGDOM TOP 10 CITIES
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain, is a sovereign country in western Europe. Lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland, the United Kingdom includes the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands.[11] Northern Ireland is the only part of the United Kingdom that shares a land border with another sovereign state—the Republic of Ireland.[note 9] Apart from this land border, the United Kingdom is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-south-west, giving it the 12th-longest coastline in the world. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland. With an area of 242,500 square kilometres (93,600 sq mi), the United Kingdom is the 78th-largest sovereign state in the world and the 11th-largest in Europe. It is also the 21st-most populous country, with an estimated 65.1 million inhabitants.[12] Together, this makes it the fourth-most densely populated country in the European Union (EU).[note 10][13]
The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy.[14][15] The monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, who has reigned since 6 February 1952. The capital of the United Kingdom and its largest city is London, a global city and financial centre with an urban area population of 10.3 million, the fourth-largest in Europe and second-largest in the European Union.[16] Other major urban areas in the United Kingdom include the conurbations centred on Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester. The United Kingdom consists of four countries—England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.[17] The last three have devolved administrations,[18] each with varying powers,[19][20] based in their capitals, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, respectively. The nearby Isle of Man, Bailiwick of Guernsey and Bailiwick of Jersey are not part of the United Kingdom, being Crown dependencies with the British Government responsible for defence and international representation.[21]
The relationships among the countries of the UK have changed over time. Wales was annexed by the Kingdom of England under the Laws in Wales Acts 1535 and 1542. A treaty between England and Scotland resulted in 1707 in a unified Kingdom of Great Britain, which merged in 1801 with the Kingdom of Ireland to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Five-sixths of Ireland seceded from the UK in 1922, leaving the present formulation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.[note 11] There are fourteen British Overseas Territories.[22] These are the remnants of the British Empire which, at its height in the 1920s, encompassed almost a quarter of the world's land mass and was the largest empire in history. British influence can be observed in the language, culture and legal systems of many of its former colonies.
The United Kingdom is a developed country and has the world's fifth-largest economy by nominal GDP and ninth-largest economy by purchasing power parity. The UK is considered to have a high-income economy and is categorised as very high in the Human Development Index, ranking 16th in the world. It was the world's first industrialised country and the world's foremost power during the 19th and early 20th centuries.[23][24] The UK remains a great power with considerable economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence internationally.[25][26] It is a recognised nuclear weapons state and is seventh in military expenditure in the world.[27] The UK has been a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council since its first session in 1946. It has been a leading member state of the EU and its predecessor, the European Economic Community (EEC), since 1973. However, on 23 June 2016, a national referendum on the UK's membership of the EU resulted in a decision to leave, and its exit from the EU is currently being negotiated. The UK is also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Council of Europe, the G7 finance ministers, the G7 forum, the G20, NATO, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

LIMERICK - BUNRATTY, IRELAND - travel shorts
King John's Castle (Irish: Caisleán Luimnigh) is a 13th-century castle located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon. Although the site dates back to 922 when the Vikings lived on the Island, the castle itself was built on the orders of King John in 1200. One of the best preserved Norman castles in Europe, the walls, towers and fortifications remain today and are visitor attractions. The remains of a Viking settlement were uncovered during archaeological excavations at the site in 1900.
Bunratty (Irish: Bun na Raite, meaning End of the Raite river) is a civil parish in County Clare, Ireland, and a small village by the same name. The village is located next to a major tourist attraction, Bunratty Castle, on the N18 connecting Limerick to Galway. The Raite river defines the eastern boundary of the parish, and flows into the Shannon Estuary, which defines the southern boundary.
