Nisyros, a Volcanic Greek Island in the Aegean Sea
Nisyros is a volcanic Greek island and municipality located in the Aegean Sea. It is part of the Dodecanese group of islands, situated between the islands of Kos and Tilos. Its shape is approximately round, with a diameter of about 8 km. Several other islets are found in the direct vicinity of Nisyros, the largest of which is Gyali.
Nisyros, with fewer than 1000 permanent inhabitants, is famous for having the only active volcano in Greece together with Santorini. The island is essentially a volcanic cone with a large collapsed caldera in the center. It is possible to walk into the volcanic crater and view the smoking fumaroles at close hand.
The island is reachable by ship from Piraeus and Kos, and in summer, there are many daily trips from the village of Kardamena on Kos. There is also a heliport. There are two main villages on the island; Mandraki in the north-west (where the ferries dock) and Nikea, up on the edge of the volcanic rim to the south. According to the 2011 census, the municipality's resident population is about 1,000, although in summer it is augmented by many tourists as well as expatriate Nisyrians who visit the island for their vacations. Tourism is not so heavily developed as on other Greek islands.
According to Greek mythology, the island was formed when Poseidon cut off a part of Kos and threw it onto the giant Polybotes to stop him from escaping. The volcano is currently active (but not erupting), and fumaroles are found at the craters. It has had four historical eruptions. The latest eruptive activity was a steam explosion in 1888, after small ash eruptions in the 1870s.

Exploring Culture-Rich Chios in Greece
In this week's episode we're heading to one of the most cultural and history rich islands in Greece, the beautiful island of Chios! We check out the beautiful medieval villages of Pyrgi, Mesta and Olympoi and we check out a lovely secluded bay at Agia Dynami.
This island was such a surprise for us. From the incredible Mastic cultivation and history to the symmetrically patterned buildings, this was our biggest surprise in the country.
There weren't the breathtaking beaches of Kefalonia or the grand old town architecture of Corfu, but Chios had something special and we can't wait to return one day soon!

IOS - Best Secret Sights to Visit - Aerial Filming!!
Ios, is a Greek island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea. Ios is a hilly island with cliffs down to the sea on most sides, situated halfway between Naxos and Santorini. It is about 18 kilometres (11 miles) long and 10 kilometres (6 miles) wide, with an area of 109.024 square kilometres.
According to Plutarch it is thought that the name has derived from the Ancient Greek word for violets Ία(Ia) because they were commonly found on the island and it is the most accepted etymology. Others say that the name is derived from Phoenician word iion, meaning “pile of stones” but Pliny the Elder writes that the name comes from the Ionians which lived in the island. In the Ottoman period the island was called Anza or Aina, and its present name was officially established in the 19th century after over 2000 years of usage. During the ancient times the island was also called Φοινίκη (Phiniki), named after and by the Phoenicians and in the 3rd century, when the island joined League of the Islanders was probably temporarily named Arsinoe after the wife of Ptolemy II Today the inhabitants of the Cycladic Islands call the island Nio, a name deriving from the Byzantine Era. The name Little Malta, which is found in texts of travelers during the Ottoman domination, is related to the permanent presence of pirates on the island. In languages with latin script, the island name is Nio or Io.
