Must See Parts of Spain: Basque Country & Dragonstone | 4K
Must see stops in the Basque Country and Spain! We explored San Sebastian, hiked the San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (Dragonstone Castle location in Game of Thrones @ 3:05 in the video), enjoyed the views at Flysch in Zumaia, went for a hike up Ulia Mountain, ate endless Pintxos, and rented a car to travel along the coast to see the sights and the local towns.

TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*If you want to see the coastline, a car is needed. I only rented a car for one day which was enough to see the towns and sights along the coast between San Sebastian and Bilbao.
*A car is not recommended for getting around Spain or even travelling in and out of San Sebastian. The train station is in the downtown and is very easy to get to.
*We did got to Bilbao and wish we had skipped it. The smaller towns have way more to offer for a tourists.
*San Sebastian is a small city with so much to do. Three nights there is a must!
*The hike on Ulia Mountain leads to another town- Pasaia. We were too lazy and ran out of town, but in the summer with more daylight this would be a scenic hike.
*Flysch and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe are very close to each other and make for a great quick road trip. Very worth it, both are amazing sites!

San Sebastian, Spain - Things to Do - Backroads Day 2
We start day two of our Backroads Multi-Sport Basque Country Adventure at the Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian. We take a short van ride to the neighborhood of Pasaia where we start a hike. The trail is called Geo-Ruta de Ulia and is part of the famous Camino de Santiago trail. The weather clears up and we kayak in the Bay of La Concha and briefly explore Santa Clara Island. I check out some of old town San Sebastian before we meet back up with our group for Pintxos and drinks at a couple of local bars.

The city is in the north of the Basque Country, on the southern coast of the Bay of Biscay. San Sebastián's picturesque shoreline makes it a popular beach resort. The seaside environment is enhanced by hilly surroundings that are easily accessible, i.e., Urgull (at the heart of the city by the seashore), romantic Mount Ulia extending east to Pasaia, Mount Adarra rising proud far on the south and Igeldo, overlooking the bay from the west.
The city sits at the mouth of the River Urumea, Donostia having been built to a large extent over the river's wetlands during the last two centuries. In fact, the city centre and the districts of Amara Berri and Riberas de Loiola lie on such terrain and the former bed of the river, diverted to its current canalized course in the first half of the 20th century.[9]
San Sebastián (Spanish: [san seβasˈtjan]; French: Saint-Sébastien) or Donostia (Basque: [doˈnos̺tia])[3] is a coastal city and municipality located in the Basque Autonomous Community, Spain. It lies on the coast of the Bay of Biscay, 20 km (12 miles) from the French border. Capital city of Gipuzkoa, the municipality's population is 186,409 (2012), with its metropolitan area reaching 436,500 (2010).[4] Locals call themselves donostiarra (singular), both in Spanish[5] and Basque.
The main economic activities are commerce and tourism, and it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Spain.[6] Despite the city’s small size, events such as the San Sebastián International Film Festival have given it an international dimension. San Sebastián, along with Wrocław, Poland, will be the European Capital of Culture in 2016.[7]

la ville est située sur la côte basque espagnole entre le port industriel de Pasaia et la ville d'Orio, à 20 km de la France et à 38 km de la ville de #Biarritz, sur les bords de la mer #Cantabrique. Elle possède plusieurs plages (la plus connue étant celle de la Concha, ) et un petit port à l'abri du mont Urgull. Elle possède en outre d'autres monts, tant promontoires côtiers comme dans les terres à l'intérieur, Bien que le relief soit accidenté on trouve quelques zones planes d'une certaine ampleur dans les vallées, plaines où se concentre une bonne partie du noyau urbain.
Elle s'étend à l'embouchure du fleuve Urumea, autour d'une baie dominée par les monts Igeldo, Urgull et Ulia, et fermée en partie par l'île de Santa Clara.
La ville est composée de trois plages urbaines : Ondarreta, Plage de la Concha et Zurriola, les deux premières situées dans la Baie de la Concha et la troisième de l'autre côté de la rivière Urumea. Les trois sont comprises dans un même système de Gestion environnementale, qui essaye de garantir une utilisation soutenable de ces dernières7.
La Concha : c'est une des plages urbaines des plus célèbres d'Espagne. Elle a une longueur de 1 350 m et une largeur moyenne de 40 m. De même que les autres deux plages, son sable est fin. Elle possède 38 douches, locations d'abris et chaises plage ainsi que des douches et vestiaires. Proche ce cette plage il y a un parking. Sur les bords de la plage on trouve la station thermale de la Perla, l'ancienne Maison Royale des Thermes (Casa Real de Baños) et le Club Nautique Royal (Real Club Náutico), bâtiments qui, avec la célèbre grille longeant la plage, les élégants réverbères, deux grandes horloges du début du siècle et le Palais de Miramar (Palacio de Miramar), qui ferme par l'ouest, forment une plage élégante
Ondarreta : située entre le Palais de Miramar (Palacio de Miramar) et le mont Igeldo, elle est la plus petite des trois plages. Dans la promenade qui la touche il y a des jardins dans lesquels on peut trouver une statue en honneur à la reine María Cristina. Elle a une longueur de 600 m Zurriola : avec une longueur de 800 m c'est la plage la plus ouverte à la mer et avec montée subite plus forte, de sorte qu'elle se soit transformé par la fréquentation par les jeunes et les surfeurs. La pratique du naturisme y est autorisée depuis 2004.Outre ces trois plages, on utilise aussi la petite plage qui se forme dans l'île de Santa Clara, à laquelle peut accéder en bateau les mois d'été11, ou à la nage, car à elle est 500 m de celle d'Ondarreta en marée basse. It has a length of 1350 m and an average width of 40 m. As well as the other two beaches, sand is fine . It has 38 showers, rentals shelter and beach chairs as well as showers and changing rooms. Near the beach there is the parking. On the edges of the beach there is the Spa La Perla , the former Royal House Spa ( Real Casa de Baños ) and the Royal Yacht Club (Real Club Náutico ) buildings with the famous grid along the beach , elegant lamps , two large clocks turn of the century and the Miramar Palace ( Palacio de Miramar ) , which closes the west , forming an elegant beach Ondarreta : between the Miramar Palace ( Palacio de Miramar ) and Igeldo , it is the smallest of the three beaches. In the promenade key there gardens where one can find a statue in honor of Queen Maria Cristina . It has a length of 600 m Zurriola : with a length of 800 m is the most open to the sea and with stronger surge beach , so it is transformed by the attendance by young people and surfers . The naturism is authorized since 2004.

Camino del Norte, 01: Hendaya a San Sebastián. Camino Santiago.
Empezamos nuestro Camino con una etapa muy exigente. Lo más cómodo es dormir en Irún o San Sebastián la noche anterior. Desde estos dos sitios podemos ir en tren hasta Hendaya. La estación está muy cerca de nuestro punto de partida, el Puente de Santiago, unión entre Francia y España, entre Hendaya e Irún.
Una vez en Irún nos dirigimos hacia el monte Jaizkibel. En su ascensión el Camino atraviesa las marismas de Plaiaundi, la ermita de Santiagotxo y el santuario de Guadalupe. Es un bonito recorrido por la ladera del monte hasta llegar a Pasai Donibane, un antiguo pueblo pescador de una sola calle en la bocana del puerto de Pasajes.
Una barca nos lleva hasta la otra orilla. Nos toca subir unas escaleras muy exigentes. Arriba comienza un bonito paseo con vistas al mar por el monte Ulía. Este sendero nos lleva hasta San Sebastián.
El albergue está al otro lado de la ciudad. Recorremos la nueva playa de La Zurriola, pasamos el río Urumea y tenemos la posibilidad de conocer la Parte Vieja donostiarra. Seguimos el recorrido por el ayuntamiento, los jardines de Alderdi Eder y la bahía de San Sebastián. Si la marea lo permite podremos caminar los últimos kilómetros por la playa.
