Top 13 Must-Visit Places in Mainland Greece & Greek Islands
Top 13 Must-Visit Places in Mainland Greece & the Greek Islands according to Lonely Planet
13. Mykonos
Mykonos is famed as a cosmopolitan destination amongst the Greek islands and widely recognised as one of the great travel meccas. It is one of the most touristed islands in the Aegean. This means that any visitors should be prepared for loud dance clubs, English breakfasts and over-priced merchandise.
12. Nisyros' Volcano
Nisyros, with fewer than 1000 permanent inhabitants, is famous for having the only 'active' volcano in Greece together with Santorini. The island is essentially a volcanic cone with a large collapsed caldera in the center. It is possible to walk into the volcanic crater and view the smoking fumaroles at close hand.
11. Corfu Town
Corfu, known also as Kerkyra, is the northernmost of the Ionian Islands in Greece. Corfu Town is the largest and most important town on the island. This is where the airport is located and where most cruise ships and long distance ferries dock. It is a small, pleasant city catering well to tourists.
10. Patmos
Patmos is one of the most religious Greek Islands because it is where Saint John the Divine had its revelation and wrote the Apocalypse. Many orthodox people still come to the island on pilgrimage - hence the coachloads of people heading up to the cave where St. John wrote.
9. Rhodes Old Town
Rhodes is the largest settlement and capital city of the island of the same name. It is famous as the former site of the Colossus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe.
8. Preveli Beach, Crete
Preveli beach and lagoon, sometimes known locally as Palm Beach, is located below the monastery, at the mouth of the Kourtaliótiko gorge. Behind the beach is an extensive glade of palm trees. The beach is regularly served by tourist boats from the nearby resort of Plakias.
7. Santorini
Santorini is a volcanic island in the Cyclades group of the Greek islands. It is famous for dramatic views, stunning sunsets from Oia town, the strange white aubergine (eggplant), the town of Thira and naturally its very own active volcano. There are naturally fantastic beaches such as the beach of Perissa, maybe the best beach in Santorini, the black pebble beach of Kamari, white beach and red beach.
6. Athens
Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning around 3,400 years. Classical Athens, as a landlocked location was a powerful city-state that emerged in conjunction with the seagoing development of the port of Piraeus.
5. The Mani
Holding a magic unlike anywhere else in Greece, the footpaths and landscape of the Mani beckon hikers from around the world. With everything from rugged rocky highlands reminiscent of Scotland and hidden lush green oases, to small fishing tavernas and severe rock-solid tower houses, this pocket of the Peloponnese is well worth exploring.
4. Odeon of Herodes Atticus
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone theatre structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens. It was built in 161 AD by the Athenian magnate Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla.
3. Ancient Delphi
In ancient times it was the site of the most important oracle of the god Apollo. Delphi was revered throughout the Greek world as the site of the omphalos stone, the centre of the universe. In the inner hestia, or hearth, of the Temple of Delphic Apollo, an eternal flame burned.
2. Meteora
Meteora is one of the gems of Greece. Located near the town of Kalampaka in northwestern Thessaly it consists of a number of rock pinnacles topped with a total of 24 monasteries. The Metéora is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos.
1. The Acropolis
The Athenian Acropolis is the ancient high city of Athens, a prominent plateaued rock perched high above the modern city with commanding views and an amazing array of ancient architecture, mostly from the Classical period of Ancient Greece, the most famous of which is the Parthenon

MOST BEAUTIFUL CAFE in SANTORINI and Beach !/ VLOG 1
Exploring some of Oia, Fira & Perissa Beach in Santorini!
We woke up with the intention of heading to the square and kept getting side tracked with food and shopping in Fira!
Enigma Cafe in Fira is the most beautiful cafe spot ever! So stunning! We stopped by there and continued on our way to the beach.
What to do in Santorini 2019 - [ Santorini Greece ] - What to do in Santorini
What to do in Santorini 2019 - [ Santorini Greece ] - what to do in Santorini ?
Santorini scuba diving is great if you are looking for adventure. What else to do if you travel to Santorini? You can hike the Fira Trail on donkeys, you can admire the beautiful Santorini sunset from Oia Village in 2019 or drive atv or quad.
Here are some other things to do in Santorini Greece in 2019:
1. Go cliff jumping at Amoudi Bay.
It was honestly one of the best things I did during my stay in Santorini. You can swim straight off the rocks, or if you are game, climb up the stairs of the massive boulder in the water and do your best dive in!
2. Hike the Fira Trail
If you want a chance to up your Instagram game with some of the BEST photo opportunities Santorini has to offer, this hike is a must. I recommend doing the hike at sunset, as it won’t be as hot at this time of day, AND you’ll get the most beautiful photos at this time of day!
3. Stay in a Cave house
We stayed in a lovely hostel called Caveland in Karterados for five nights during our stay in Santorini. The hostel itself felt wonderfully Grecian- think traditional, white-washed cave-style buildings featuring bright blue doors framed by fuchsia flowers. Complete with a pool, super friendly and helpful staff, and even morning yoga classes, it was incredible as far as hostels go (not to mention a total bargain)! On the downside, the location was quite isolated and was a fifteen-minute walk to get into the main town of Fira. If you are looking to be in the center of all the action, your best bet is to actually stay in Fira, although you may pay a little more to do so.
4 Hire a quad bike and drive around the island
What better way to explore this beautiful island then cruising down the roads with the wind in your hair!? Hiring a quad bike (or ATV) for the day is surprisingly cheap and only requires a standard license. It’s a great way to discover areas that aren’t accessible by bus (and to feel super cool while you’re at it).
Alternatively, if you don’t have a driver license, you could cruise around the island on an electric bike tour instead.
If you want more of an adrenaline dose, Santorini also offers an endless array of activities including helicopter tours, parasailing, and scuba diving.
5. Go on a Sunset Wine Tour
Santorini is home to many fantastic wineries, so make sure you don’t leave the island without sampling the island’s finest grapes! If you want the full experience, take a sunset wine tour, where you will be taken to 3 traditional wineries to taste over 12 wines. On the final stop, you’ll get to sip your wine whilst watching Santorini’s famous sunset- there isn’t really much that can beat wine with a view!
6. Eat Frozen Yogurt for dinner - best thing if you don`t know What to do in Santorini 2019
Alright, I’ll let you off if least make it your second course after 2€ gyros. But seriously, the frozen yogurt I had in Santorini still lingers in my food dreams. If you are in Thira, you must check out Chillbox. They’ve even got Bueno sauce topping to put on your frozen yogurt- it’s almost too good to be true. Once your mouth is in heaven, you can sit back and think about how cool it is that you are eating frozen Greek yogurt in Greece. Yep, that’s next level cool.
7. Jump off a boat into hot springs
Picture this. You’re on a boat. You dive off into the cool Mediterranean ocean. You swim about twenty meters and suddenly, the water changes color and temperature and you’ve just swum into hot springs. This is just another one of those unique things you HAVE to do during your stay in Santorini (just don’t wear your best swimsuit in the hot springs, I’m still mourning over my ruined bikini).
It’s not every day you have the option of dining with arguably one of the best views in the world. Even if you’re on a budget, choose at least one night to splurge a little at one of the many restaurants overlooking the ocean. Time your reservation for sunset and prepare to have your mind (and hopefully tastebuds) blown. The last night we were in Santorini we ate out at Volcano Blue, a reasonably-priced restaurant along the water at Fira with a priceless view.
9. Sunbake (or fry) on the black sand beaches this is What to do in Santorini 2019
For a unique, and to be honest, slightly painful experience, head to the black sand beaches of Kamari and Perissa. Within seconds of stepping on to that hot sand in summer, your feet will fry and you’ll turn three shades darker. But hey, that’s all part of the fun- right?
10. Get the perfect spot to watch the best sunset in the world
So I know it’s an obvious one, but there is a very good reason why this is recommended on every Santorini guide imaginable. I’m not exaggerating when I say that sunset at Santorini. Now you know What to do in Santorini 2019
