【4K】왓포사원 วัดโพธิ์ Wat Pho temple, Bangkok
The Wat Pho or “Temple of the Reclining Buddha” is one of Bangkok’s most attractive temples. It is a much visited temple complex due to its location immediately South of the Grand Palace and the huge Reclining Buddha image it houses.
The temple that is officially named Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangkhalaram is one of the six temples in Thailand that are of the highest grade of the first class Royal temples.
Oldest and largest temple in Bangkok
The Wat Pho is the oldest and largest temple complex in Bangkok, it houses more than 1,000 Buddha images which is more than any other Wat in Thailand. Most of the images were brought over from abandoned temples in places as Ayutthaya and Sukhothai by order of King Rama I.
After the foundation of Bangkok in the Ko Rattanakosin area in 1782 and the construction of the Grand Palace, King Rama I ordered the construction of the Wat Pho. The temple was built on the site of an older, Ayutthaya era temple named Wat Photharam right next to the Grand Palace.
During the reign of King Rama III the temple complex was renovated and enlarged which took over 16 years to complete.

Songkran Merit Making at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat
Nakhon Si Thammarat is best known as a stopover for getting to islands like Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. But it’s actually a real gem of southern Thai charm, an ancient city with a rich and exotic history that goes all the way back to the13th century!
iTravel Channel, together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), are taking you down to the capital of Thailand’s second largest south province, Nakhon Si Thammarat. NST or simply Nakhon as it’s sometimes called, was once called the Kingdom of Ligor. In the 17th century it was an important trading post for British, Portuguese and Dutch merchants and many historic buildings from those port days and earlier ruins still exist here today. The province is now an important hub for crossing over to Thai islands like Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, and a tourist attraction for its jungles, beaches and waterfalls.
We’ll be discovering the best of what the capital of Nakhon Si Thammarat has to offer. Our first top will be brunch at the famous coffee shop Kopi Tiam, a longstanding institution not only for its coffee, but home-cooked Thai dishes and Dim Sun. Then we’ll walk off our full bellies at NST’s 100-year-old Municipal Market and the handicraft centre, Ban Achan Nikhom.
We are also very excited about going to Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, a UNESCO world heritage site filled with stunning Buddhist motifs from the 16th century. It’s one of the most important prayer sites in the history of Theravada Buddhism.
Last but not least, come experience with us how the locals celebrate Thai New Year, otherwise known as the Songkran festival!
