BHUTAN | PHUENTSHOLING | TOP 3 Places to visit in 1 Day
Hello Friends, Lets go to Phuentsholing which is a border city of Bhutan. You can visit Phuentsholing by road crossing through Jaigaon (West Bengal)
The India-Bhutan border at Phuntsholing clearly separates two very different peoples and cultures. Jaigaon across the border is larger, bustling and loud, similar to many other West Bengal centres of commerce, albeit with many Bhutanese shoppers. Phuntsholing is uniquely more urban than other Bhutanese towns as it is the Bhutan financial, industrial and trading capital. It has been affected a little by the neighbouring culture, but is distinctly far more quiet and orderly than its neighbour.
Unlike other cities in Bhutan that offer terrain and amazing scenic beauty, Phuentsholing is the perfect mix of traditions, beautiful landscapes, beautiful monestries, modern life and culture. There is a lot more to Phuentsholing than meets the eye. The city is a hub for different community of people living in perfect harmony, be it Bhutanese, Nepalese or Indians. For this very reason, Phuentsholing is a must-visit.
On your trip to Phuentsholing, look out for these places to visit in the city:
Zangto Pelri Lhakhang
Karbandi Monastery
Amo Chhu Crocodile Breeding Centre

Beautiful Bus Station In Phuntsholing Bhutan
Phuntsholing Bus Station has amazingly improved as compared to the other Bus Stations. Most probably it is the best service ever provided by the RSTA. Behind the beauty of environment & infrastructures, there is also another mysterious thing. (Please relax before you guys hear this story). Last time, I went to P/Ling RSTA to renew my Registration Book. I found all the staffs were very polite and providing very fast delivery in their services. I do hope such spirit would never vanish in the near future too. Thanks!

Solo in Paro Bhutan | Tiger's Nest visit | Bhutan Travel Guide | Bhutan Series Ep 1 | Tanya Khanijow
Here’s presenting the first part of the Bhutan Series Episode in Paro. I went straight to Paro as first part of my road trip in the country. The drive from Phuntsholing took about 4 hours.
The entire budget of my Bhutan trip was close to INR 25k. You can carry cash everywhere in Indian currency in Bhutan as it is accepted. Some things about Paro below:
1. The place where I stayed at in Paro is called Ama’s Village Lodge. You can book the place here -
2. The cost of entry to Taktsang Goempa is INR 500 and a round trip with any driver will cost INR 1000 from your lodge
3. You can contact Mr. Yonten Norbu for driving you around Bhutan if you are visiting. His number is +975 17672515 , my experience with him was extremely nice. He was a perfect gentleman who ensured my safety and also made sure my experience in Bhutan was memorable.
4. If you are visiting Bhutan, I would highly advice you to get a local sim for contacting tour agencies or driver. A local sim will be available for INR 200 at Phuntsholing.
5. Other places that you can visit in Paro are - Paro Dzong and you can get a Hot Stone bath which is very popular in the area

From ages The Kingdom of Bhutan or The Land of Thunder Dragons is famous for its breadth-taking landscapes. Other than its most popular scenic beauty, the socio-economic history of Bhutan needs a special mention. This Buddhist country has never been colonized. In 2008, Bhutan transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. The first general election to the National Assembly of Bhutan was held in that year. Bhutan is renowned as one of the most peaceful countries of South Asia. The financial centre of this country is Phuntsholing.

PEOPLE OF BHUTAN | Beautiful Destinations
Join the Beautiful Destinations team as we explore beyond the borders of this ancient kingdom and explore the unique worlds of its incredible people. From a trailblazing female archer to a conservationist who has planted over 100,000 trees, and from artisan papermakers sustaining 300-year-old traditions to dancers who move with the songs of centuries past, these are the stories of the people of Bhutan.
ON SONAM DEKI, BHUTAN’S TRAILBLAZING FEMALE ARCHER
In Bhutan, archery has become more than just the national sport — it has also become a platform for discussions on gender equality. As a female on the national archery team, Sonam Deki is challenging some of the country’s outdated customs and paving the road for women in the previously male-exclusive competition.
Deki and her team train eight hours a day, sometimes shooting as many as 300 arrows in a single practice. During competitions, they shoot at targets sitting 145 meters away (on the Olympic level, targets lie at half the distance). Deki has already made incredible strides since joining the team in 2014, but her biggest dreams — joining the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and becoming a coach — still lie ahead.
ON THE “MASKED DANCE OF THE DRUMS”
Drametse Ngacham, “the masked dance of the drums,” was once believed to have been performed by heroes of the celestial worlds. The vibrant masks of the dancers feature intricate details and elements inspired by animals — both real and mythical. The dance, a tradition passed down through five centuries, is considered an art form and is performed, to attract blessings, twice a year at the Drametse Ngacham festival — though it's also used on special occasions for good luck. It's thought to be a mechanism for spiritual empowerment and something the Bhutanese believe everyone should see at least once in a lifetime.
ON ATA SONAM AND A LIFE DEDICATED TO TREES
Atam Sonam’s dedication to the forests started from an early age. Though now retired, Sonam still devotes significant time to protecting and caring for Bhutan's trees. Over the last 35 years, he has planted more than 100,000 trees in and around the Thimphu Valley to combat the effects of climate change — last year alone, he planted more than 300! He is a shining light in the country’s initiative to keep at least sixty percent of its land forested at all times — an effort that has contributed to the country’s status as the only carbon-negative nation in the world.
ON PRESERVING ANCIENT PAPER-MAKING
While used countrywide today, historically, this extensive practice was only used to create scriptures and prayer books for monks. The paper is crafted from Daphne — a plant only found in the Himalayan region — and harvested sustainably to ensure regrowth. Over 300 people are involved in cooking, cleaning, and processing the plant to paper. The seven-day operation is truly an art form; its artisans train for 10 years to master the craft. And while using practices from the 17th century may not be the most practical route, this craft demonstrates the country’s steadfast dedication to preserving its heritage and — with its chemical-free process — also helps to protect the environment.
ON THE CULTURE OF BELIEF
Bhutan is a country of ancient tradition, of scared earth, of unfaltering belief. And while the majority of the population, almost three-quarters, practices the country’s official religion, Vajrayana Buddhism, its spiritual beliefs extend far beyond that — honored in traditions passed down through generations.
One such custom transpires along the winding curves of the Chele La Pass, 2088 meters above sea level. Patrons arrive to burn incense in offering and murmur prayers as they tie flags to poles that jut high above the dusty earth. This custom is performed to bring luck, prosperity, and peace to a family, its community, and all living beings in the world.

Day 2 – Episode 5 – Bhutan Nightlife – Discs and Bars, Drinks, Movie – Camping Traveller India - Amice
Zumtrul is a bar, which is a karaoke bar actually. So there you sing any song of your choice on karaoke and enjoy drinks.
Nu/INR is 150 for Beer and Nu/INR 100 for 60 ml wine peg with Free snacks. It’s a good deal. I had a beer and Lubzang has a wine glass.
Soon, Aaksha called back and he also joined us there. He said he was a bar nearby and missed the calls due to the music. Some live band was performing. Now, we three were there and enjoying our drinks and we tried that karaoke on bollywood song – Mere Sapno ki Rani Kab Aaiygi Tu”.
It was fun. Lubzang and Aakash became good friend. We moved hom around 12:30 after leaving Aakash to the hotel.
One very catchy song grabbed my attention, out of 4, 2 to 3 was singing this song only.
Tile is Pubosha … Pubosha…. Pubosha…. . Really not aware of album or film name, but the beats are amazing. Try listening it on YouTube.
I am still surprised, only Karaoke version is available.
Next Morning, after breakfast, I went to the immigration office and applied for the route permit.
That lady said, it would take 2 hours, so come after 2 hours. So Lubzang and me went to the market and started doing sight seeing and this was my 1st visit to Thimphu.
Documents required for Route Permit are as below:
1. Fill Route Permit Form
2. Give Photocopy of Permit which you taken from Phuentsholing
3. A Written Declaration for Solo Traveller - same way as we given at the time of applying for Permit
Same documents need to be submitted for Permit extension as well. Simply replace Route permit form with Immigration Permit Form.
So, now I suppose to get my route permit by 12:00 Noon. We decided to go meet Deki and Nubru.
Their shops were just in front of immigration office. So we went there and met them.
Taxi: While Going we paid Taxi fare of 30 Nu/INR each and while coming back as it was a special taxi we paid Nu/INR 150 total.
So here if you see a Taxi, you can stop and get in. If there are more passengers inside, it’s a shared taxi and you will pay only Nu/INR 30 per person. And in case if you stop a taxi, and no passenger in inside, you may be asked to hire it specially.
Disc and Bar Timings: Disc and Bar timings are based on days. Saturday and Sundays, timing is till 1:00 AM, Friday its till 12 Midnight and rest of the days bars and discs are opened till 11:00 PM. Bhutan police keep the track and control on opening and closing timings.
Day & Night Shop: I found a shop in the market, near Legar Theater, its very closed to Clock Tower, which keep opened throughout night. If anyone is interested identify the name of the shop from the video and approach in odd timing.
Drinks are available on all the shops: Almost all the shops and restaurants are selling drinks of all kind. Simply go and pay and buy. Beer is costing only Nu/INR 60 rupees. Those who health conscious and doesn’t drink, can take 1 liter bottle of “Lassi” or “Chaach” or “Butter Milk” what ever you call it in the same price of Nu/INR 60.
Pool Game Rates: unlink here in India, what I discover with the discussion held with Lubzang, They pay Nu/INR 100 on per game basis. Not on per hour basis. This is not a authentic piece of information, yet I have, so sharing. I went to a pool bar but didn’t ask, as I am not a person who is very keen and good in playing pools.
Name of Bars in Thimphu:
1. Viva City : Viva city is a restaurant famouse for its crowed and DJ music. Its accommodate a good colume of visitors.
2. Mojo Park : its popular and has made a identity for live music bands performances. Many VIP and high society visitors prefer to visit this disc.
3. Zumtrul – Karekoke Bar : if you are found of music and love to sing as well, its an place for you . Sound quality and big screens are amazing. A good place to gathering and parties.
4. The Ace Bar:
