Visiting Tamarindo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Costa Rica is the closest thing we have to a home base, we come here to catch up on work and get some R&R after spending months on the road. We usually stay in Playa Avellanas, a small surfing beach town located about 30 mins outside of Tamarindo.
In this Episode, we visit the nearby town of Tamarindo that serves as our main hub for shopping, restaurants, and civilization and show you what life in this popular tourist town is all about.

Drift Away Eco Lodge, Playa Avellanas, Costa Rica
One year ago we purchased a run-down hotel in a quiet neighbourhood of Playa Avellanas, Costa Rica. We poured our hearts and souls (along with sweat and tears) into this property, converting it from an old run down hotel into a beautiful new eco-lodge that features 8 rooms and 4 villas, a stunning pool, open-air breakfast bar and a juice bar.
The Drift Away Eco Lodge now offers a perfect setting to relax, unwind, and connect with nature. The lodge is located in close proximity to some of Guanacaste’s most beautiful beaches known for great swimming and excellent surfing. But the area offers plenty of other activities to help visitors enjoy the most of their time in the Guanacaste region.

Welcome to Frog TV -- I'm Adam Baker.
I'm reporting from the luxury, boutique hotel--Villa Buena Onda, here in Guanacaste, Costa Rica's most northern region and the theme for this video.
This province has plenty tours and activities, as well as some wonderful culture and wildlife. It also has some best hotels and resorts found in Costa Rica. So let's have a look --
at some of the highlights.
Guanacaste is the most popular destination in Costa Rica for visitors. Mainly due to its beautiful, sun drenched beaches that stretch along the north-west coastline.
The close proximity of the provincial capital: Liberia - along with its International Airport - means most of the hotels and resorts are less than 1 hour away.
It is the most sparsely populated area of Costa Rica, and so offers many, amazing natural vistas across the mountainous countryside - down to the golden coastline.
The Guanacasteco culture is unique in Costa Rica, and is historically set apart from the rest of the country, with its laid back, relaxed lifestyle much of which is focused around the cultivation of the land and the local 'Sabaneros'.
The area receives little rainfall and has consistent, excellent weather from November to April, resulting in striking tropical dry-forest surroundings and rich wildlife.
There are many great tours in the area. The Buena Vista Tour will take you above -- and below the Canopy of the forest, and the thermal volcanic hot springs are the perfect place to relax after a long, adventurous day.
Discover the rich, aquatic life in the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean, whilst diving in amongst the famous Catalina Islands. Here you will find over 25 great dive spots that are popular with many divers.
Some of Costa Rica's best - sports-fishing, is found along Guanacaste's shoreline, offering up plenty of good catches.
For entertainment and nightlife, look no further than the town of Tamraindo. Renowned for its world-class surfing and chilled-out party scene makes Tamarindo an exciting option for tourists.
Guanacaste offers the best choice in Costa Rica for luxury hotels and resorts. You will find many great, world renowned names such as the The Hilton, The Four Seasons and the JW Marriot.
The Westin Conchal - stands out for its unrivaled location on the beautiful Conchal beach, along with its tantalizing,
all-inclusive meal plan.
This 5 Star resort offers a number of great activities on site and is only 45 minutes away from the Liberia Airport.
A smaller option might be the Cala Luna hotel.
It's found just a stone's throw away from the sea, in a peaceful, serene setting just outside the town of Tamarindo. Cala Luna offers fine, eloquent Villas and Suites that cater to groups, families and couples.
For a true luxurious, authentic experience of Guanacaste visit the boutique Villa Buena Onda Hotel. Hidden, in the secluded hills above the relaxed town of Coco, will you find this exquisite, 7 bedroom property that is only 20 minutes away from the airport.
The spacious ocean view suites make it perfect location for romantic escapes. It can also be rented as a private Villa for families and groups.
The personalized service is unsurpassed, and with the delicious, meal plan - means you'll experience a true sense of the area, in an unforgettable setting.
So, that wraps up this video for Costa Rica's gold coast, here in Guanacaste. And as you can see behind me, the beaches are absolutely beautiful. Now I'm heading down to Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast to check out some of the rainforest.
Reporting for Frog TV, I'm Adam Baker.
Hasta La Proxima.

The order of places we visited:
San Jose, Arenal, Tamarindo, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio, Jaco, San Jose.
Total distance was about 1,200km (746miles).
Playa Avellanas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Playa Avellanas is amazing and is home to Hacienda Panilla and further South down the beach to Lola's Beach Bar & restaurant. The surf here is great. So if you are planning a surfing trip to Costa Rica, put this down on your list. Hacienda Panilla is a gated golf community that offers large lots. Most of the homes being built here are Luxury Homes and start at $850K. There are many resales in this development as well. In addition to the 18 hole golf course, Pinilla offers a fabulous beach club.
