The Hawk Conservancy Trust is a bird park and conservation charity that cares for and displays birds of prey. It is located in Weyhill, Hampshire, England, near to the A303 road and the town of Andover. Founded as a zoo by local farmer Reg Smith and his wife Hilary, the park was incorporated as the Hawk Conservancy Trust in 2002. It is also the site of the National Bird of Prey Hospital, a veterinary hospital that takes in injured birds of prey.

West Midland Safari and Leisure Park is a safari park located in Bewdley in Worcestershire, England. It was opened under the name of West Midland Safari Park in spring 1973. The park holds over 165 species of exotic animals, among other attractions such as a small theme park. The park contains the largest groups of white lions, cheetahs, hippopotami, and meerkats in the UK, as well as the largest lemur walk-through exhibit. Potterspury Videos

SCOPE WALK | POTTERSPURY DOGS HEAD | NORTHANTS WALK

Today, Peter and I scoped out a lovely walk around Pottespury, Northamptonshire. This walk is not suitable for larger dogs as there are simply too many non-dog-friendly stiles to cross. There is a small element of road walking (about 100ft), but the rest is on well-trodden footpaths.
Main areas of interest include:-
* The Queens Oak Tree, which is where Queen Elizabeth would secretly meet Edward!
* Lace buildings
* Wooded areas
* A sink hole
* Lots of amazing views over open fields
* A few streams to see
* A couple of churches
* Enjoy the thatched cottages in both Yardley Gobion and Potterspury, as well as some very posh modern houses.
* We have a water tower and a mill house to see
* Alpacas (or they may be llamas?), a donkey, lots of sheep, horses and lots of birds.

The Whiley household is a busy one; Jo lives with her husband and their four children. All of this means that there’s a lot of footfall and a lot of noise, which is why Jo loves to make her beautiful kitchen the heart of the home. It’s the place where they entertain friends and come together as a family.

Jo also loves spending some quieter time at her desk, writing letters as her mum once did. The house is kitted out from top to bottom in Habitat furniture, something she’s “always had an affection for”.

Two Wheels For Life Day Of Champions Ride In Silverstone 2017

The Day of Champions in an hour and seventeen minutes [don't worry, there is a shorter version: ] as seen from the view of one of the orange-jacketed marshals [me].

We started preparations for this year a week after the 2016 DoC due to road redesign at the old starting point, Gaydon Motor Museum, which caused problems in keeping the run togther. Over the winter the search for a new starting place was undertaken with several cafes being visited before deciding on the Willoughby Cafe

Then a route had to be chosen to take the ride to the Super Sausage in Potterspury [ which meant that the marshals that live in the area were planning and test riding several different routes.

Once the route was sketched out the lead marshal, Chris, double checked the route and gave it the OK. Using the wonderful TYRE software [the basic software is free ] Garmin and TomTom routes were created and circulated to marshals that live further away-such as Portsmouth, Hull and the Lake District.

Then the route was filmed and edited to fast-forward between marshal points to help with familiarisation. There are three routes-a dry 40-mile ride, a shorter and simpler [but a bit boring] wet route and the second cafe to the circuit.

Then the local marshals learned the route perfectly and planned on where to safely park and stand to mark the turnings. One week before the ride a road was closed leading to a diversion route which was planned in.

The week before the ride saw five of the marshals riding the route on the Monday evening for a last minute check and on the Wednesday showing Glen the leader of the ride around. As he lives in the Middle East he is excused from a quick ride around on a Sunday.

On the day I was out at 0500 riding the route to make absolutely sure all was OK. It was-apart from some escaped sheep that were rounded up before the main run passed.

0700 at Willoughby 0:16 was the marshal meeting time and Helen and Ian were already there having driven down from Mull in the Western Isles during the previous couple of days-that's dedication for you. Booking in opened at 0800 0:22 and did a brisk trade as the riders rolled in. 0:44 shows the start of the marshals heading out to route mark the turnings. At 28:52 you can see the pigeon that flew into me, I ducked and only got a glancing blow at about 20 mph [about 30 km/h] but I've still ended up with a whiplash type injury to my upper back. At 28:55 in the inset rear view you can see the pigeon crash-land.

1:01:45 shows the scene at the Super Sausage and at 1:03:00 we're off again to route mark.

1:03:33 shows the parade laps, twice around the track starting on the Wellington straight before the start-finish line. The the participants can go into the pits with their passes then go to the auction that raises well into 6 figures for the work of the charity.

The day doesn't end for the marshals after the track time as we are then fetching and carrying, promoting the charity in the pits and assisting with security before finally getting to relax after a 10-12 hour day. That's nothing compared to the other volunteers who will be spending nearly a week setting up for the MotoGP, working non-stop for the entire weekend then taking everything down again.
