Madrid's Top 10 Places Every Traveler Should Visit
Madrid's Top 10 Places Every Traveler Should Visit
10. El Escorial
San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a town about 45 km from Madrid. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama, the city's main attraction is the world famous Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a World Heritage Site that was the political centre of the Spanish empire under King Philip II.
9. Museo de América
An excellent museum that many tourists miss. Houses thousands of artifacts from the Americas. The exhibit displays objects from many native cultures from before European conquest to colonial times and beyond. Don't miss the Tesoro de los Químbayas, a collection of gold objects that was given as a gift by the Colombian government.
8. Parque del Retiro
The main park of Madrid, the perfect place to take a rest during a sunny day, or take part in the drum circles around the statue of Alphonso XII on summer evenings. There is a large boating lake where one can hire a rowing boat - great fun for the children! Sunday afternoons in summer are a treat in the park, where young hippies play bongos and dance.
7. Centro de Arte Reina Sofía
Houses Madrid's best collection of modern art. It includes many of Pablo Picasso's most revered works including the renowned Guernica. The Reina Sofía also houses masterpieces by Miró, Kandinsky, Dalí, Bacon, and more.
6. Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is an art museum in Madrid, located near the Prado Museum at one of city's main boulevards. With over 1,600 paintings the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection was once the second largest private collection in the world after the British Royal Collection.
5. El Rastro
Madrid's largest flea market, featuring rows upon rows of private vendors selling a variety of homemade bads, and a plethora of live entertainment. It is very important to note that the Rastro is notorious for having an abundance of pickpockets, so watch your handbag closely and do not bring along valuables. edit
4. Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales
The Convent of Las Descalzas Reales is a royal monastery situated in Madrid, Spain, administered by the Patrimonio Nacional. The original architect of the church was Antonio Sillero. The facade was designed by Juan Bautista de Toledo in 1559; who also helped in the roofing of the church.
3. Plaza Mayor
Perhaps the best known plaza in Madrid, this impressive square is now one of the main stops on any tourist visit. Originally built outside the city walls, this enclosed square has played host to bullfights, markets, symphonies, tournaments and executions. Today it is ringed with tourist shops, cafes and restaurants.
2. Museo del Prado
One of the finest art collections in the world and the best collection of classical art in Madrid. It includes many different collections: the Spanish (El Greco, Velázquez, and Goya), the Flemish and Dutch (Rubens, van Dyck, and Brueghel), Italian (Botticelli, Tintoretto, Titian, Caravaggio, and Veronese) and German (Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, and Baldung Grien).
1. Palacio Real
The Palacio Real (Royal Palace) is an enormous palace, one of the biggest in Europe, with scorching plains of concrete around it. Though it is the official residence of the King of Spain, the royal family does not actually reside here and it is generally used only for state ceremonies. The Royal Palace is considered to be one of the most emblematic and beautiful buildings in Madrid, not only for its location on a bluff overlooking the river valley but also for its architecture and the artistic treasures to be found in its rooms.

Welcome to Colombia
We started our trip along the Colombian Caribbean coast in the department of Atlántico. The department is located in the Caribbean region, it limits to the north by the Caribbean Sea, to the east with the Magdalena River and to the west with the department of Bolívar. We visited its capital, Barranquilla, to learn about the most important folkloric and cultural events as the Carnaval de Barranquilla, declared Masterpiece of the oral and intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003. We also visited the tropical dry forest Luriza, 6km from Usiacurí, In this reserve, 139 species of birds have been identified. 10 specimens of amphibians, 44 of reptiles, 122 of plants and 43 of mammals, among which the red howler monkey stands out. Finally, we finished the first part of our tour along the Colombian Caribbean coast at the club Lagos de Caujaral, an excellent private club where we had the chance to play some Caribbean golf and enjoy some Colombia birding.

LIVING OUT OF MY CAR IN COSTA RICA + Where Have I Been?!?!?!
Hola, hola -- Here we are, in Costa Rica! What?! I am now living out of my 4x4 SUV in Costa Rica.
In this travel vlog, I update you on the past 2 month in less then 10 minutes. But here is an even shorter synopsis of everything...
I fell in love! I moved into his van, and then he and I flew to San Jose, Costa Rica. I spent two weeks searching for a van here. I didn't find one, but I found something even better -- Mahalo! Mahalo is my 1994 Mitsubishi Montero, a 4x4 truck.
We converted the vehicle into a camper van by building in a bed and storage underneath the bed platform. So now I live in the van! Pretty cool, huh?
I went on a lot of adventures in the meantime and met so many new friends. I show you some of the adventures, and then Lucas goes home.
I find some new friends and camp out of my car on the beach for about a month before heading to my first Rainbow Gathering. Then the rainy season starts and everything gets a little crazy and wet.
Now, I am living the van life again in paradise, and I'm super stoked to show you guys more of my life here. I've been learning to surf and trying to learn how to speak spanish -- so that's pretty rad!
Ohhh, I almost forgot. I adopted a street dog! Her name is Luna and she is the most perfect thing that ever lived. Can't wait for you guys to see more of her.
Thank you for watching, guys!
If you are new here, and wondering where I was for the last 3 months -- I was solo backpacking through South America (Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru). I vlogged the experience and would love to share in the joy with you. So, feel free to check out those videos, which are linked in the recommended videos down below.
