Krakow, Poland - one of the most beautiful places in Europe.
We have made a „top 10 with things we think would be nice to see/do in or NEAR Krakow (Wieliczka salt mine and Auschwitz former nazi conecentration camp included)
Krakow is with his 1,4 milion inhabitants, the second largest city in Poland.
Legend has it that it was built on the cave of a dragon whom the mythical King Krak had slain. The dragon's cave is right beneath the Wawel castle and can even be visited today.
1) FLORIAN'S GATE
.The gate, built in 1307 is one of the few surviving parts of the ancient city wall. The gate is 35 metres high and was the city's main entrance in medieval times. Today it's the best place to begin your walk in the old town.
2 RYNEK (main market square)
Kraków's main market square designed in 1257. With its 200 square metres the Rynek is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe.Through the ages here was the place where kings were sworn and public executions held. The Rynek has always been the natural stage for public celebrations, including the famous one back in the 17th century when King Jan Sobieski III organised a great firework which ended badly when some explosives were accidentally fired into the crowd.
3) SUKIENNICE (Cloth Hall)
In the centre of the old towns square grows unexpectedly the Sukiennice, or Cloth Hall . It was built in the 14th century. Even today you can buy here a great variety of stuff as in a turkish Bazar. In the underground, in 2010, there was opened a hi-tech history museum of the city and a 19th Century Polish Art Gallery.
4) ST. MARY'S BASILICA
The original church was destroyed during the Tartar raids in the 13th century. St. Mary's was rebuilt in Gothic style and finished in 1320. From the northern tower the hejna? mariacki - the city's famous bugle call - is played every hour on the hour. Surprisingly, The song breaks off in the middle of it in honour of the legendaty trumpeter who was shot in the neck while warning the city of Mongol invaders (NOT turks, as I said in the video :) )
5) STARE MIASTO (Walk around the old town)
Even without a human or virtual guide, walking aimlessly around the old town is a unique experience. Inventing your own trip back in medieval time, searching for a traditional chocolate factory or just hunting souvenirs, in Krakow is the place where you can do all of that. And if you are tired of history and clichees, there are places where you can be as modern as you desire.
6) FOOD!
Definetly a reason to visit Poland, food is ab-so-lu-te-ly gorgeous. And much pricyer than in other European countries. We strongly reccomend you to choose a restaurant with polish dishes.
7) WAWEL CASTLE
You can easily spend a whole day in the castle, visiting the must-see cathedral, the crown treasury and walking around the courtyard and gardens.
8) NIGHT LIFE
Like the Czech republic and Slovakia, Poland is also well known for its euphoric night life. In Krakow nights are days and long story short- you name it, yo can do it!
9) WIELICZKA (Salt mine)
is a town known for its ancient salt mines, less than 20km from Kraków. The salt mine here is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and for sure a must-see. The Entrance ticket is not cheap- around 20 Euros per person but it includes a live guide, in different languages. Wieliczka is really a hidden gem, which we will explore in a different vlog.
10) AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU (Former Nazi Concentration Camp)
A very dark page of mankind history can be experienced 2km outside city of O?wi?cim, 65km from Krakow. Even if it is a spot where milions of tourists come every year, don't think it is easy to visit the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau. The spirits of the dozen of innocents murdered there seem to tear you apart during your walks on the alleys and it feels like every brick of the blocks is crying. Pain, death and humiliation, learning about all those atrocities you will overwhelm you. But it is a lesson we must learn.
Being only 90minutes away from Krakow, Auschwitz can be done during a day trip from Krakow.

Iceland is an incredible country.
Certainly one of the most beautiful countries I visited. The landscapes are so wild, the weather is so changeable. There are no noises, only the sounds of nature. I advise this country to all wildlife and nature lovers. We will be back soon!

GRAZ - Austria Travel Guide | Around The World
Graz is the capital of Styria (Steiermark) and the 2nd largest city of Austria.
Graz is the second-largest city in Austria, with a population of about 300,000. Some 50,000 of this population is made up of students, as Graz is home to no less than six universities (three standard universities, two dedicated to applied sciences, and one dedicated to music and the arts), and is associated with names as illustrious as Johannes Kepler, Erwin Schrödinger and Nikola Tesla.
The roots of Graz can be traced back to Roman times, when a small fort was built where the city centre is today; Slovenians later built a larger fortress in the same place. The name Graz is derived from the Slovenian word gradec, which means small castle. Graz was first mentioned with its German name in 1128 when the dukes of Babenberg turned the place into a commercial centre. During 15th century Graz became the capital of Inner Austria (refering to Styria, Carinthia and Carniola) under the Habsburgs.
Graz has a rich history in education manifested by the number of universities in the city. The first university was founded in 1585 (Karl-Franzens-Universität).
Due to its strategic position, in the 16th century Graz was often attacked by Ottoman Turks. The fortress located on the Schlossberg (the picture to the right shows the clock tower, which is located on top of the hill) never fell to the Turks (the only place in this region).
During WWII, Graz was part of Nazi Germany (along with rest of Austria). At the end of the war, Graz was surrendered to Soviet troops largely intact; the historic old town was not seriously hit during Allied bombing raids on the city. In 2003 Graz was the Cultural Capital of Europe.
Graz is also known for the Magna Steyr (formerly called Steyr-Daimler-Puch) automobile and truck manufacturing plant located there.
It is also the birthplace (in nearby Thal) of bodybuilder, actor and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger. Its Merkur Arena was renamed in Schwarzenegger's honor in 1997, but was renamed again (initially to UPC Arena) in 2005, following controversy over the governor's support of California's death penalty.
Graz airport (IATA: GRZ), (Flughafen Graz - also known as Thalerhof), around 9 km south of the city centre.
The old town of Graz is easily explored on foot and is reachable with a 20 min walk from the main train station. Stop at the Tourist Information at the train station, or any hotel lobby that you come across to pick up a brochure on attractions in Graz. This brochure also contains a map with most of the sights marked, as well as recommended self-guided walking routes through the town.
All restaurants have cheap lunch deals (Mittagsmenü) (12-3pm) or a dish of the day (Tagesempfehlung) that are usually very good, fresh and have the best value. Due to its importance as a university city, Graz has a vibrant night life. Bars are concentrated around the old town as well as the Karl-Franzens-University to the east of the old town. The old town has a mixed audience while the bars around university are mostly attended by students. In the old town you'll also find a few Irish pubs. Whereas the most Irish of them is O'Carolan's right next to the main square (Hauptplatz) others include Flann O'Briens and Molly Malone's. The Office is a very laidback and unique new addition to the Irish/British pub scene in Graz. The Office features regular live music and jam sessions, as well as the odd bit of Karaoke, and darts (steel - you know, the real ones from England) every Sunday. Graz has a lot of cafés all around the town, very concentrated in the city center and university district and you get tasty coffee almost everywhere. Prices are the same in most cafes, they just get slightly more expensive in Herrengasse or on Schlossberg. The most common coffee beverages are a Verlängerter (a small Americano with milk; 2,20-2,40€), a Cappuccino (2,40-2,60€), a Café Latte (coffee with lots of steamed milk; 2,60-2,90€). It is common that you get a glass of tap water to your coffee, if not don't hesitate to ask for it. Clubs usually open around 10pm and get crowded by 12pm. All have entry fees (mostly 4-12€) depending on the event. Sometimes it is cheaper or even free before 10.30 or 11pm. A beer will usually cost you between 3-4€. Most places are open till 5am.

We passed this on a carriage ride round the city and noted we could get entry on our Vienna Pass. We were not expecting much but were completely proved wrong.You go round in a large group, as you are given a time to attend, and after a small speech from the guide you start your first room.

The picturesque old town of Trogir in Croatia is situated on a small island which is connected to the mainland by a bridge and protected by walls and a fortress. In 380 B.C. Greeks from Issa settled there and founded the fortified city of Tragyrion. It was only under Croatian rule that the island fortress regained its former importance when, in 1107, it became a diocesan city and received municipal rights by King Koloman. At the south-western end of the island is the imposing Kamerlengo Fortress, former residence of the Venetian governor and his militia. High walls connect various towers from which there is a good view of the sea. Church steeples rise above the rooftops.as though to highlight the importance of religion during Venetian rule. Several coastal towns entered into agreements with Venice whose mighty fleet offered protection against pirate raids. In 1997 the entire old town was designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site, a closely packed-together collection of residential buildings, churches, narrow streets and courtyards.Repeated hostilities of the Ottomans finally ended the heyday of this fine city but its former splendour has been well preserved and Trogir now serves as a priceless glance back into the Middle Ages.

As if we were exploring a ghost town. At least it felt like that when we were visiting a vast abandoned industrial area on day two of our urbex road trip in Austria. Once, this was one of the biggest gas works sites in the region. Today the compound fallows and nature is winning back what was once hers. We are one of the last people who will be able to see the site with their own eyes before there will be a massive change shortly.

The Rathaus was designed by Friedrich von Schmidt in the Gothic style, and built between 1872 and 1883. On the top of the tower is the Rathausmann, one of the symbols of Vienna. Facing the Rathaus is a large park, the Rathauspark. There are 331 steps to take you up the City Hall Tower which measures almost 98 [m]. Two spiral staircases up 256 stone steps and then another 75 to the highest point. Emperor Francis Joseph made a condition that the City Hall Tower was not to be higher than the 99 [m] spires of Votivkirche. So Friedrich Schmidt had to resort to a ruse to build higher still: the Tower itself is only 97.9 [m] high. It is the statue of Rathausmann placed on its top which makes it a total of 104.3 [m].
