No matter where you stay, you're bound to be only a short drive away from fun things to do. At sparkling Mission Bay, many of the resorts lie close to bike paths, as well as the bay's sandy shores and calm waters, and are a great base for families who want to visit nearby SeaWorld. Beach-loving families also enjoy Coronado Island, where the historic Hotel del Coronado presides over a beautiful white-sand beach, a short ferry ride away from downtown tourist attractions. From plush resorts packed with kid-friendly amenities to good-value hotels with homey suites, San Diego delivers on fun places to stay for families. Travel Tips - 10 Best Travel Apps for Visiting California
SUBSCRIBE!
Hey everyone! I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips and today I'm sharing my picks for the 10 best travel apps for visiting California. There are a few others worth mentioning, which I'll share with you guys in another episode. I hope you have a chance to check out these California travel apps. They are sure to be your friends next time you visit California!
1. If you're going to Disneyland, the Disneyland Wait Times Walkee app is worth a look. It features up-to-the-minute wait times, along with restaurant menus, park maps and a daily calendar.
2. If you want to spice up your visit, check out the Hidden Mickeys app, which sends you on a hunt for hidden surprises throughout the park.
3. Another favorite is EveryTrail Pro. This app allows you to search for hiking trails near your location, or download GPS-enabled sightseeing tours in big cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. What's best? You can download the maps so you don't need cell service to follow the map.
4. Most of you are likely going to hit the beach at some time during your visit. For the latest surf reports, I like the free Surf Report by Oakley app. Powered by Surfline, this app shares the latest surf conditions in Southern and Northern California, updated several times daily. You can add your favorite surf spots to a list so they're always available at a glance.
5. Are you renting a car? Then iExit is a must. This app is great for road trips, telling you exactly what gas stations, restaurants and coffee shops are at your next freeway exit. Unlike Google and Apple Maps, it only suggests places that are in the direction you're heading.
6. Want to check out some great restaurants? Yelp is an old favorite. This is one of my favorite apps for discovering nearby restaurants and bars. Each listing has photos, phone numbers and customer reviews. You can add your own photos and reviews straight from the phone.
7. Open Table is another good choice. This app allows you to view restaurant menus near your GPS-enabled location, or search by restaurant name. Browse the menu, then make the reservation right from your phone.
8. Want to find out where the star chefs eat locally? Check out Chef's Feed.
9. Tipulator is another one of my favorites — just because I'm terrible at math. This app allows you to calculate the tip at a restaurant, or split the bill between several people. It's great for people like me who have trouble figuring these things out.
10. If you aren't picky about your activities, set up a Groupon for the cities you'll be traveling to. I've found deep discounts for skydiving in San Diego, wine tasting in Temecula, and winter whale watching cruises off Newport Beach. Why pay full price at the door?
Finally, for all you light sleepers out there, check out Sleep Pillow. I've tried about 10 white noise apps, and this one is my favorite — perfect for hotels with thin walls and noisy neighbors. And if you get a good night's sleep, your trip is going to be much more enjoyable.
Honorable mentions!
TripIt is a great way to organize your trip into one master itinerary, which is available at a glance. You can set it up so hotel and flight reservations are automatically entered into the app.

Exotic Mountaintop Estate. California's San Diego County, USA - Unravel Travel TV
Exotic, mountaintop estate in California's San Diego County will be sold at a live Auction on September 19, 2015 by Platinum Luxury Auctions. Recently offered for $12.5 million, the property will be sold to the highest bidder who meets or exceeds the auction's $5 million reserve price. Listing agent K. Ann Brizolis of Pacific Sotheby's International Realty is the cooperating listing agent for the sale
The mountaintop estate is one of the most unique and intriguing homes in all of San Diego County. Perched atop Paint Mountain on more than 18 acres, the Property offers striking, 360-degree views of Southern California, with vistas stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets are especially spectacular when viewed from one of the estate’s many terraces, or while soaking in the one-of-a-kind lap pool. The mansion’s unique design was custom-created by its original owner, a wealthy inventor, investor, and physician. Materials and craftsmen were imported from all over the world to produce the sprawling residential structure. In fact, the development of the estate became quite a local attraction, with random visitors constantly driving onto the project site just to capture a peak of the work in progress.
An immense, 288,000-gallon lap pool is perhaps the residence’s most striking feature, as it runs through the property’s central courtyard and out towards its back lawn, where it seems to disappear over the edge of the mountain. It is purported to be one of the longest residential pools in the world. Massive walls of glass, unique water features, and a striking central courtyard with a pool and spa allows for a seamless integration between the estate’s indoor and outdoor living spaces. Many features of the home seem well beyond their time, such as 10-ft by 10ft doors that gently swing open on special, hidden hinges, and oversized, electronically controlled sliding glass doors that open the main level’s hallways to the central courtyard.
The tri-level estate offers more than 23,000 interior sq. ft., with 8 bedrooms, 9 full and 2 half baths. The master suite alone measures 4,300 sq. ft., and opens to a large, rooftop terrace. There is also a separate guesthouse, which adds 2 beds, 2 full baths and approximately 1,200 sq. ft. of living space, an ideal location for on-site staff. (Note: The guesthouse is presently unfinished). Additional features of the mansion include two living rooms, a game/media parlor, formal dining room with glass walls and a revolving floor (designed to allow all dinner guests to enjoy the panoramic views during their meal), a dedicated theatre, fitness center, executive office, and sauna. The commercial-grade kitchen includes a Teppanyaki station, Viking and Wolf appliances, and a separate prep room. There is also a wine cellar and a garage capable of accommodating more than 20 cars.
In addition to it’s incredible pool, the estate’s water features include two, 900-gallon salt-water aquariums, gentle stone “wall waterfalls,” and various koi pools. There is even a custom rock waterslide that slopes down the edge of the mountain, terminating in a small plunge pool. Other outdoor features include a gated entry, circular driveway with porte-cochere, and a private jogging path that encircles the estate.
Elfin Forest is an unincorporated community in the foothills of San Diego County’s Santa Rosa Mountains. It is bordered on the south by Rancho Santa Fe (the Property is in fact located within the Rancho Santa Fe school district). A rural area comprised of large homes and estates on multi-acre parcels, Elfin Forest offers many rolling hills and trails. The area is also home to the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, a 784-acre reserve with 11 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, in addition to many beautiful spots for picnics, or simply taking in the mountain views.
