Grotte Boat Tour: Gargano coastline, Puglia, Italy
August 4, 2015
Best watched in 1440HD for performance, 4K option for highest resolution.
The Grotte open-top boat tour, which departs from Rodi Garganico, is a pleasant way of admiring the stunning Adriatic coast of Italy. The trip heads south past the seaside towns of San Menaio, Peschici and Vieste. Along the way are several tabucchi (old wooden fishing platforms), medieval watch towers, panoramic clifftop towns, and of course the famous Gargano caves. After continuing down to the Baia di Campi, we stopped at a tranquil beach for lunch at the seaside restaurant before returning to Rodi at full speed. An unexpected highlight (3:40 mark) was watching a Canadair water-bomber in the distance scoop up it's load to fight a nearby wild brush fire.

Tremiti Islands, Foggia (Italy) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Tremiti Islands in Foggia, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea are the setting for the Tremiti Islands, just off the coast of southeastern Italy.
The name of the island complex means tremors due to its history of seismic activity and fault location.
This archipelago consists of five islands, three of which are uninhabited due to either their low elevation or infertile composition.
The two inhabited islands feature a vast array of landscapes, including arid limestone, dense woods, and sandy beach.
Some of Italy's political prisoners, from as far back as the Roman Empire to the years of Mussolini's reign, have been confined here.
In 1989, the Tremiti Islands' importance and beauty were confirmed when it was named a natural marine reserve.

Vieste (View viesti in dialect), The Pearl of the Gargano, is an Italian town of 14,006 inhabitants in the province of Foggia in Puglia. Gargano seaside resort, for the quality of its bathing water has been repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education. It is part of the Gargano National Park and the Community
It is the easternmost town of the Gargano promontory and the province of Foggia. The special urban dislocation of Vieste is related to karst Garganico Promontory, characterized by rock layers often eroded by the action marina. The core of the town perches on a small rocky peninsula, with a more or less symmetrical, characteristic for its three bays separated by two points
Punta San Francesco, facing east, steep, rocky raised and bitterly: it is here that one finds the medieval center, since this part of the peninsula offering the best safety requirements. In this part, full of narrow streets, stairways and arches, you find the most prestigious historical buildings (Church of San Francesco, cathedral).
Punta Santa Croce, facing north, lower. In this area, relatively flat, the municipality began to expand only to the nineteenth century. The formation of new districts later led the life of the country (new town hall, city park, the Santa Croce church etc.) To gravitate more and more towards this part. It is this side that finds the port of Vieste, still important for the activities for fisheries and maritime traffic towards the Tremiti Islands, Croatia and toward Manfredonia that is 50 km.

(Puglia) is region that stretches at the heel of Italian boot in south-eastern Italy. It is known as the Kingdom of drought and stones. Here you will find wild, untouched nature and beautiful mountains with many gorges and caves. A major tourist attractions are unique architecture structures called trulli mostly concentrated around a town of Alberobello.
Apulia with its numerous cultural and historical monuments and its extraordinary landscape is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy. Picturesque coast of Apulia expands in the length of over 800 km. Puglia offers flat sandy beaches but also steep rocky coast. Its cultural heritage is very diverse.
Sunny climate and excellent beaches with jagged rocks, or the historical town of Gallipoli with its clean environment attracts thousands of tourists each year. If you go to the tip of the Italian boot, you will get to Grotta Zinsulusa, where you can also visit the nearby Blue Grotto. Otranto is another beautiful city of this area. Cathedral of Santa Maria della Annunziata boasts the largest floor covered with figural mosaics in Europe.
In this region it is necessary to visit its capital city -- Lecce, often called as the Florence of the South or Florence of the Baroque. Brindisi, located on the Adriatic coast, is since the 3rd century BC, the main port and the gateway to Greece, Turkey and Albania. Further along the Adriatic coast, lies the city of Bari with shopping district Esperanto. Apulia was many times in its history conquered by foreign rulers and offers to its visitors lots of sights of different cultures.
Apulia represented a wide-open gateway to the East in the past. It has long been under the influence of the Greeks and thus is characterized by impressive architecture. Apulia is also very fertile land and is known for producing very high quality wine and olive oil.
Gargano Peninsula, which is also located in this region, is a high rocky promontory into the Adriatic Sea, with preserved pristine landscapes, countless picturesque bays and cliffs. In the north there are two large lagoons -- Lesina and Varano and along the coast are popular resort of Puglia -- Vieste, Peschici, Rodi Garganico, San Menaio, Mattinata, with fabulously white houses, narrow streets and typical restaurants. Central region boasts special houses called trulli, which are traditional white buildings with conical roofs, located in areas of Alberobello and Locorotondo.
