We Went to the French Riviera (24 Hours in Nice, France)
After visiting Paris so many years ago we just knew that we wanted to return to France, and what better than heading to the French Riviera by spending a couple of days in Nice.
After finding one of the only cafe's open before 10am (which was perfectly placed right on the beach) we decided to head out and explore more the beautiful town.
Spots we saw
- Vieille Ville (Old Town)
- Promenade des Anglais
- Parc de la Colline du Château (Castle Hill Park)
- Jardin Albert I Statue
but after doing waay to much walking we decided to upgrade our transportation by hiring a top back blue convertible. We drove up to Le Fort du Mont Alban to get amazing views of the city.
After all this driving and walking we had worked up an appetite, so we tried some Nice street food in the form of Socca before grabbing an ice cream and catching the train over to Cannes for the Cannes film festival.

Places to see in ( Nice - France ) Fort du Mont Alban
Places to see in ( Nice - France ) Fort du Mont Alban
The peak of Mount Alban is a fortified military. Built between 1557 and 1560, located on the hill of the same name , between Nice and the bay of Villefranche . In France , it is a rare example of military architecture from the mid xvi th century, in good condition.
The siege of Nice in 1543, causes many destructions in the defensive system of the city. On a project of Gian Maria Olgiati, military engineer general of Charles V , the Duke of Savoy Emmanuel Philibert decides to fortify the maritime border of the States of Savoy by the construction of a new fort, between the fortresses of Villefranche ( citadel Saint-Elme ) and Nice (Nice castle ). Its realization is entrusted to the architect-engineer Domenico Ponsello under the direction of the captain general of the ducal galleys André Provana de Leyni. The first stone is laid on April 5, 1557 . Ponsello builds a strong bastion in a pattern called star to meet the new techniques of artillery in use in the xvi th century. André Provana de Leyni calls it Mont Alban
Located on a strategic point, 220 meters above sea level, it offers a magnificent panorama, to the west on the Baie des Anges to the Esterel Massif and to the east on the harbor of Villefranche until the Italian Riviera . It has a rectangular plan, 40 by 46 meters , with ramparts pierced by embrasures , and extended by corner bastions in the form of ace of spades very prominent, flanked by stone sentry boxes . It can accommodate a garrison of about fifty soldiers. Fort of Mont Alban is classified as a historical monument , by orders of February 20, 1909 for the enclosure of the fort, August 20, 1913 for the walls and February 23, 1923 for the perimeter of 250 meters.

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks St Albans | Euro Trip 2018 Pt3
We meet up with Ye Olde Friends at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans.
Wikipedia:
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is a public house in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. It is one of several pubs that lay claim to being the oldest in England.[1] The building is described by Historic England as being of sixteenth century appearance, but as the earliest date for which it can be proved to have been licensed is 1756 - and even that date is not certain - its claim to this record is somewhat uncertain.[2] Others such as the Ye Olde Man & Scythe in Bolton, Greater Manchester and Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham may have better claims. Even in St Albans, the White Hart and the Fleur de Lys (currently called 'The Snug') have claims to have been trading as inns in the late medieval period.[3]

Places to see in ( Sete - France )
Sète is a major port city in the southeast French region of Occitanie. It’s bordered by the Étang de Thau, a biodiverse saltwater lagoon. Across a narrow isthmus, Sète’s Mediterranean coast is lined with sandy beaches. The top of Mont St Clair offers views of the city, known as “Venice of the Languedoc” for its canal network. The Musée Paul Valéry has displays on the history of Sète, plus an art collection.
Sete known as Cette until 1928, is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Its inhabitants are called Sétois. Known as the Venice of Languedoc and the singular island (in Paul Valéry's words), Sete is a port and a seaside resort on the Mediterranean with its own very strong cultural identity, traditions, cuisine and dialect. Sete is also the hometown of artists like Paul Valéry, Jean Vilar, Georges Brassens, Gregory Del Piero, Hervé Di Rosa, Manitas de Plata, and Robert Combas. Built upon and around Mont St Clair, Sète is situated on the south-eastern hub of the Bassin de Thau, an enclosed salt water lake used primarily for oyster and mussel fields. To its other side lies the Mediterranean. And the town has a network of canals which are link between the Étang de Thau and the Mediterranean Sea.
In 1703, when the Saint-Louis church was consecrated, Louis IX, patron of the port, also became the patron saint of the town. He has been celebrated every year on August 25, with canal jousting competitions, music and fireworks, except during wartime. Sète is the eastern starting point of the Canal du Midi, and the ending point of the Canal du Rhône à Sète. Its train station Gare de Sète is approximately 15 minutes by train from Montpellier, and is also served by long distance trains to Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille and Paris. Car ferries sail between Sète and Morocco.
Sète is a centre of water jousting, and hosts a major tournament during the town festival, the St-Louis. Paul Valéry's poem Le cimetière marin, depicts the graveyard above Sète's harbour. Valéry is buried in the graveyard, and the nearby Paul Valéry Museum contains a collection of his drawings and manuscripts. Espace Georges-Brassens is a museum dedicated to the Sétois singer-songwriter. Agnès Varda's first film, La Pointe Courte, was filmed in the environs of Sète. The Secret of the Grain, also known as Couscous or Le Grain et le Mulet, a César Award-winning movie about Tunisian immigrants, was filmed in Sète.

Places to see in ( Nice - France ) Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
Places to see in ( Nice - France ) Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
The Musée d'art moderne et d'art contemporain, also known as MAMAC, is a museum dedicated to modern art and contemporary art. It opened on 21 June 1990, in Nice, France. The Museum is located near the Place Garibaldi. It was designed by two architects, Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal, and is shaped as a tetrapod arch straddling the course of the Paillon.
The monumentality of the project developed to cross the Paillon allows connection through a terrace, called the Promenade des Arts, from the Museum to the Theater. With its square plan, the architecture of the building is inspired by neo-classicism rules. The available area is approximately 4,500 m2, distributed over ten showrooms. The facades are covered with smooth white Carrara marble.
The entrance and the shop are located at the level of the esplanade Niki de Saint Phalle, which overlooks the Place Yves Klein. The gallery spaces are devoted to temporary exhibitions on the first floor, and the permanent collections are on the second and third floors. The entrance is free and opens daily from 10.00 am to 6:00 pm, except on Mondays and some holidays

ST. ALBANS SANATORIUM - VIRGINIA
We drove to St. Albans Sanatorium for a public investigation. St. Albans Sanatorium is said to be the most haunted place in Virginia and one of the most haunted places on the east coast! We caught a voice growling, the emf meter went off a lot, and the ghost turned my camera off multiple times! We went through the living quarters, I sat in a bathtub. Then we went to the alcoholics room. Then we went to the hydrotherapy room where I got the most activity! Then we went to the purple room and bird cage. It was definitely a exciting experience and I hope to go back!
