Sunshower in Dauphin
I made this clip in high quality and hope you enjoy the green and the colors. This was in September, 2013 in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence département of France, in a tiny, ancient village called Dauphin. This house was built over three years around an old tower, which was part of the Medieval defenses (probably) of the village. No one is sure.
The house is highly original and one side of it pretty much opens to the elements. The house, Gîte Le Jardin, is for rent and I got it for 295 euros for a week. It sleeps six. No TV, phone, Internet, DVD player, dryer or bathtub, it is nonetheless luxurious in its way, and boasts at least six terraced gardens, one of which is over the old tower.
It is extremely secluded and private. Most aspects you could desire here are in place for gracious residence.
Some of the Lubéron mountain range can be seen here, and there is virtually no light pollution, so nighttime stargazing is good. Saint-Michel-L'Observatoire is nearby for astronomy fans.
The only noise here was from church bells, a rooster and some cicadas. This house would not be suited for the mobility challenged, and sleeps six easily.
Although Dauphin is tiny and dead, there are a few people there, and Mane is only about five km away. Forcalquier, a magnificient town, city of four queens, is only about 10 km away. I was able to just bring in some supplies and provisions and I was in rustic paradise here in a most civilized form in a modern, original house, including two bathrooms and three-plus levels.
Provence is in Southeastern France and close to and along the Mediterranean sea. It is known for grapes, olives, figs, wine, almonds, citrus fruit, and that's only a part of it. There are ancient abbeys and châteaux you can visit around here, you can buy food and many products direct from the producers, and there are sports. Around here are many abandoned villages in high places -- once a hundred years or so passed and things settled down, the inhabitants moved to more accessible and convenience locations. You can see history all around you, including Roman roads and ruins.
