Helsinki Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Finland’s thriving waterfront capital, Helsinki, is situated at the northeastern edge of the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Russia.
Start voyaging through Helsinki’s history by taking the ferry from Market Square to Suomenlinna Fortress, the battlements of which have protected the Gulf of Finland for almost 300 years.
Helsinki has an abundance of museums and galleries across the city, including the Helsinki Design Museum, which features a permanent exhibition devoted to the great moments of Finnish design.
Continue your design journey at Temppeliaukio Church, a favorite with touring musicians. Helsinki is home to many structures dedicated to theatrical and musical productions. Two of the most iconic are Finlandia Hall and the Helsinki Music Centre.
Wander through Esplanadi, often referred to as the living room of the city. From here, walk north to Senate Square, which fans out from the fatherly gaze of Emperor Alexander II.
Climb the stairs to the foot of Helsinki Cathedral, a breathtaking whitewashed structure that towers above the rest of the city. Stare up at the twelve apostles, ten-foot-tall zinc statues which stand like wise custodians.
In stark contrast to Helsinki Cathedral is its brooding younger brother, Uspenski Cathedral. Built with dark bricks, the cathedral is powerfully conspicuous as it rises from the surrounding white granite of the Katajanokka district.
Celebrations of education and creativity mean Helsinki is a city designed for life. Its long-held reputation as one of the world’s happiest places lures people from all over the world. And now, it is calling to you.

Top 12 Amazing Beautiful Hotel Rooms In The World
A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term basis. Facilities provided may range from a modest-quality mattress in a small room to large suites with bigger, higher-quality beds, a dresser, a refrigerator and other kitchen facilities, upholstered chairs, a flatscreen television and en-suite bathrooms. Small, lower-priced hotels may offer only the most basic guest services and facilities.
Number! 12! Ice Suite – Hôtel de Glace (Québec, Canada)
What looks like a fabulously-colored igloo, this Canadian Ice Suite would be the ideal room to stay in if you’d just finished watching Disney’s Frozen for the first time.
Number! 11! Nostalgie – V8 Hotel (Stuttgart, Germany)
This is such a unique look. While it’s inspired by the range of V8 Supercars, we can’t shake the feeling that there’s a little bit of inspiration from the post-nuclear video game Fa llout as well.
Number! 10! Presidential Suite – Hotel Cala di Volpe (Sardinia, Italy)
This seems like a bit of an odd design choice for a hotel room that’s designated as a Presidential Suite. But you can’t deny thlorious blue sky view though.
Number! 9! Giraffe Manor, Nairobi, Keny
One of the most desirable accommodation destinations in Kenya, the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi is a colonial-era mansion re miniscent of the colonial days.
Number! 8! Rock Bottom – Madonna Inn (San Luis Obispo, California)
We can’t quite decide whether this is meant to be either some post-modern design,a room built from a real cave, o r is actually a Flintstones-themed hotel suite.
Number! 7! Sol 2 – Playa Escondida (Riviera Nayarit, Mexico)
Admittedly, we do like the rock wall that’s similar to the Flintstones-themed suite, but for us it’s definitely that bed that’s going to keep us pinned to this room.
Number! 6! Free Spirit Spheres, British Columbia
This unique treehouse resort for adults is open year round in an enchanted coastal rainforest on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Number! 5! Hotel Costa Verde, Costa Rica
Hotel Costa Verde is located on a coastal rainforest bluff overlooking the Pacific beaches of Manuel Antoni National Park near Quepos, Costa Rica.
Number! 4!The Kiboko Star Bed – Loisaba Wilderness (Laikipa, Kenya)
While this one initially baffled us when we saw it, we can actually see why a lot of people would love to stay in a place like this. It's absolutely perfect for people on safari. We bet.
Number! 3! The Mine Suite – Sala Silvermine Hotel (Vdstmanland County, Sweden)
Remember when 1960s sci-fi depicted the future as 'everyone and everything must be covered in silver’? This would be that world’s hotel suite.
Number! 2! Ice Hotel, Jukkasjarvi, Sweden
The Icehotel is a hotel rebuilt each year with snow and ice in the village of Jukkasjärvi, in northern Sweden, about 17 kilometres (11 mi) from Kiruna.
Number! 1! Attrap Reves Hotel, France
I'll be ever blowing bubbles. Camping hasn't changed much since the Israelites traveled around the desert carrying animal skin dwellings on their backs.
TRAVELING THAILAND - E09 - KOH PHANGAN (4K) (2017)
This is the ninth episode of our backpacking trip through Thailand. It was my first time in Asia and also my first time shooting in 4K.
!!!Text in Description!!!
----------------
In October 2016 a friend of mine and I decided we were in need of some new experiences. So we planned a route through Thailand, booked some flights and took a 4 week break from our routine lives in February 2017. Join us on our way through the land of smiles!
----------------
2 days later we decided to move on to the famous Full Moon Island, Koh Phangan.
We skipped the full moon party on purpose but what we didn’t know was, that the Black Moon Party was supposed to take place exactly the night we arrived there. We missed out on that one because we were too exhausted from the last 14 days we felt in our bones, seeing a lot of thailands north. We watched the local fishermen inspect their haul in the sunset. And we had some nice conversations with a couple from sweden and a friend of mine from Berlin who happened to be there at he same time.
I ended up buying cigarettes in a local shop where people were watching chicken fights on the sports channel.
The next morning we met the Swedish couple at breakfast who were up to go to one of the beaches nearby, Haad Rin Nok. Famous for it’s excessive Full Moon Parties, we made a completely different experience there floating in the cyan blue waters.
We heard about a nice, cozy panorama Bar in the Hills of Koh Phangan so we jumped on the back of one of these pick up trucks again and went there for sunset.
I was really looking forward to the next day, because we decided to take part in the famous Slip N Fly Festival. We bought tickets at our hostel, and were transferred directly to the location.
Unfortenatly the weather didn’t seem to be on our side.
Nevertheless we had a blast, and when electricity was turned back on, we finally could try it ourselves. 40 meters down the waterslide with a ramp in the end. This is just awesome.
But when it started raining another time, we decided to call it quits for the day. The rest of our spare time that day was spent driving to an amazing bar in the mountains of koh Phangan. And surprise: We met the people from Cologne again that we got to know up in the north of Thailand.
We drove back home to their hostel, to make a plan for the night. I met a guy who had his own hang drum and dared to lay a first hand on this beautiful instrument.
We decided to celebrate this reunion at a Electronic / Goa Party nearby – sure, it’s still Full Moon Island.
The weather didn’t improve much over the night, so we were really lucky to have had at least one beautiful beach day on this island.
We wanted to give an Island further up in the north of the Gulf the chance to offer us some last sunny beach days, so we made the choice to stay in this constellation for on of the last stops of our trip.
