10 Things NOT to Do in Aruba
Get more Tips here!
Aruba has it all – from the constant trade winds and year-round nice weather to its pristine coastline with its sugary white sand and friendly islanders. But if your goal is to stay safe while having the time of your life, here are 10 things you shouldn’t do while visiting Aruba.
1. Don’t Worry About Paying in USD
You don’t have to worry about exchanging your USD (Visual: Exchange Office). While dining out or making any sort of transaction, you’ll be asked which currency you prefer. And, thankfully, most vendors will gladly accept American dollars.
2. Don’t Be Afraid to Drink the Water
It’s some of the cleanest H2O in the world. Thanks to their desalination process, bottled water isn’t needed, and their tap water meets the highest standards of quality by the World Health Organization..
3. Don’t Skip the Sunscreen
You’ll want to make sure you apply it each and every day while visiting Aruba. Since the island is 12 degrees north of the equator, the UV rays and solar radiation is strong. Even when it’s cloudy outside, play it safe and lather up!
4. Don’t Expect to See Street Signs
Street signs are sometimes nonexistent or hidden. Motorcycles and ATVs don’t follow traffic rules, so be on high alert. Also, in the rural parts of the island, you’ll want to watch out for goats and other animals that tend to cross the roads unexpectedly.
5. Don’t Travel to the San Nicolas District at Night
Many tourists head out to this area to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy resort areas of Palm Beach. While you’ll find the beach to be idyllic, after nightfall there is an increased risk of crime, including petty theft.
6. Don’t Take a Taxi Without Negotiating
Since they aren’t equipped with meters (Visual: Taximeter), drivers will base the cost on the destination rather than the amount of mileage. To avoid any kind of confusion, ask for the total price upfront.
7. Don’t Forget Insect Repellent
This climate has an increased risk of mosquito-borne illnesses, such as chikungunya and dengue fever, and also Zika virus, so pregnant women should really take caution. To combat the risk of being infected, insect repellent is highly recommended.
8. Don’t Go to Chain Restaurants (Visual: Hard Rock Cafe)
Aruba has some of the tastiest locally caught fish, and you can enjoy a moderately priced meal at some of the island’s most popular restaurants, including the Italian eatery Casa Tua and delicious BBQ at Smokey Joe’s Island Grill.
9. Don’t Book a Jeep Tour
Many travelers suggest you skip out on booking one entirely. Instead, you can rent your own open-air jeep for as little as $80, and it can comfortably seat up to 4 people. You can act as your own tour guide as you explore the pristine island.
10. Don’t Rent a Car Without Learning the Rules of the Road
Right turns are prohibited at red lights, and U-turns are often restricted. Seat belts are always required, of course, and children under the age of 5 must ride in a child safety seat. Aside from that, make sure to have fun and enjoy your stay at this tropical paradise!

Baby Beach - Aruba one Happy Island
#justAmazingAruba For me this beach is absolutely gorgeous! Very nice, soft sand and it's a calm lagoon that makes this the perfect place for families with smaller children. I can walk really far out and it's still very shallow. The beach is huge!

Destination: Aruba One Happy Island
The only trip you will regret is the one you don't take
Travel music video showing the highlights of our trip to Aruba. Aruba is located 18 miles away from Venezuela and in clear days you could see the cost of Venezuela from the south eastern side of the island. Our trip started from Miami and was roughly a 3 hours flight. The island is 21 miles long and 6 miles wide with an area of about 75 square miles, so pretty small. We were able to travel from the California lighthouse to Baby Beach in less than an hour, this is from one side of the island to the other. The island is a constituent country of the Kingdom of Netherlands. Local official language are Papiamento and Dutch, but most speak English and Spanish as well. Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba and here is where cruise ships dock. We visited the national park in a jeep to get to this amazing natural pool, lots of off-roading here so be careful, they also have some tours in ATV or 4 wheel drive that will take you there. The park is similar to a dessert with lots of cactus, and the temperature is very hot, so make sure to get that sunblock, personal experience. We also got tickets to the Renaissance Hotel Private Island where you can feed and take pictures with the flamingos, tickets are very limited, they were giving only 30 and price was $125 each, worth it (you won't be able to flight a drone here (NFZ) since the island is very close to the airport) There are lots of beaches in Aruba including Baby beach, Boca Catalina, Mangel Halto and Malmok Beach, the last 3 mentioned are well known for snorkeling. I would recommend to stay as close as possible to the capital (less driving and more things to do) Local recommended not to visit San Nicolas (located near Baby beach) at night. Overall we had a blast in the island and will recommend it to a friend or family.
If you would like to see a travel video guide to Aruba please make sure to put it in the comments.

Arubus to Charlies Bar San Nicholas
We took the Arubus from Palm Beach to San Nicholas (switched buses in Oranjestad). Shopping in Oranjestad, Eating at Charlies Bar in San Nicholas, Hanging out with all the Arubian Kids along the way. San Nicholas is the Real Aruba. Looking for something a little off the beaten path with some history, check out San Nicolas - Aruba.
Aruba - Shopping
Colorful malls and main streets beckon to shoppers who stroll unhurried through stores spiced in the floral scents of perfumes, glittering with rows of display cases of gold jewelry, watches and sparkling jems, decked out in the latest designer fashions and inspiring temptation with intriguingly designed gadgets and sophisticated electronics. The stores of Aruba are stocked with imported merchandise and luxury items at excellent prices. Many stores also feature local hand-made crafts. Most stores and boutiques are located in Oranjestad, but excellent shops can also be found at the larger hotels and at the airport. Aloe is abundant in Aruba and skin care products are manufactured right on the island.
Stores on the main streets are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, although some are closed for lunch between noon and 2 p.m. Shops in the malls and shopping centers are open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some stores are open on Sundays and holidays when cruise ships are in port.
