Puglia, Italy: Scooter Adventure to Polignano, Ostuni, Alberobello
Big & Small skipped the car and decided to rent scooters to explore the charming towns of Puglia, Italy, including the magical home of the fairytale-like trulli—Alberobello! Other towns we visited include: Ostuni, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Carovigno, Costa Merlata, Torre Canne, San Vito dei Normanni, Monopoli, and Polignano a Mare. We had a few scooter problems along the way, but enjoyed the beauty of the countryside and the stunning coastline of one of Italy’s most underrated regions. Follow our journey!

A luxury villa built in the traditional local stone of the area with all the modern comforts to make your holiday more enjoyable. The holiday home, in a two acre olive grove, provides the ideal get-away location.
- Location -
The villa is situated in the countryside, just out of town in a peaceful setting but not isolated, in a lived in area and approached by a country tarmac lane with street lighting. It is ideal for those wishing to walk, cycle, explore and relax. The area is considered to be an area of natural beauty with tourist cycle routes. Many Italians have their country home and spend most of their summer days in Contrada Pagliamonte a tranquil part of San Vito Dei Normanni with villas and trulli. It is not commercial or touristy but typically Italian. You can eat and drink well locally at very reasonable prices. Children are welcomed in most restaurant & bars as long as escorted by responsible adults. It is quite normal for an Italian family to take the children out for a meal and a walk in the square late at night especially in the warm summer evenings. The town of San Vito Dei Normanni with all its facilities is less than two miles away. The bars, restaurants and takeaways in the town are open till late. The numerous beaches, coastal restaurants and bars are a 12 kilometres drive from the villa. Ostuni 12 kilometres. Lecce 40 minutes drive, Ionian Sea 50 minutes drive, Adriatic Sea 15 minutes drive. Large supermarket 5 minutes drive, 24hour petrol station 5 minutes drive.
- Nearby Activities & Places of Interest -
Horse Riding in Santa Sabina (Carovigno) 15 minutes from Tiddler, Torre Guaceto and Aquarossa just outside Ostuni. Tennis in San Vito and Carovigno. Sailing in Brindisi (Porto Turistico). Go-Karting 5 minutes from San Vito. The Zoo in Fasano is approximately an hours drive away. The caves in Castellana and Alberobello the Trulli capital are a must. Great American mall style shopping in Brindisi and Mesagne. Weekly Markets in the nearby towns different days of the week. Local Masserie to visit and taste the local produce (Olive Oil, Preserves & Wine). Lecce The Florence of the South or the Baroque Capital of the South is easy to get to from San Vito. The Cript of Saint Bagio is just outside San Vito, an important part of the town's history, is worth a visit too. We can also make arrangements for you to attend a cookery class in a local Masseria and wine tasting at one of the local Cantine.
- The accommodation -
The villa can accommodate six guests. There are, three bedrooms each with a modern en-suite shower room, lounge, kitchen with dining area, covered veranda and large secure enclosed private courtyard. The property has double glazing with security grills and mosquito/fly nets, four air-conditioning units with heating facility and a wood burner in the lounge.
- To the Outside -
There is ample car parking and a car port providing shade for two cars. A dry stone wall surrounds the villa's olive grove. The villa and garden are approached through a private gated drive which has been enclosed by fencing. There is a further gate into the courtyard which leads to the main entrance of the villa.
- Inside the Villa -
The lounge is dual aspect, light and airy with a three seater sofa, wicker armchairs, coffee tables, air-conditioning unit, Digital TV with SKY Digital box and a DVD player. For our winter guests we have installed a wood burner with a glass door and of course the four air-conditioning units efficiently heat the villa. The kitchen is fully equipped for those wishing to dine in. There is a five ring gas cooker with oven, microwave, dishwasher, upright fridge with a separate freezer compartment plus the usual kettle, electric espresso coffee maker and toaster. The dining area has an extendable eight seating dining table and chairs. The three bedrooms can be prepared as two twin rooms and a double or two doubles and a twin. Linen and towels are provided. Each bedroom has a modern en-suite shower room. Fans have been provided for guests that do not wish to use the air-conditioning.
