During the 4th weekend of October, the Myounji shrine in Ijuin City, Kagoshima prefecture, holds a festival commemorating a 1-day forced march by retreating samurai following the battle of Sekigahara. There are various activities both Saturday and Sunday, and a 20 km (12 mile) walk from Terukuni Shrine in Kagoshima City to Ijuin. I did the walk in 3.5 hours, then hung around the festival grounds to watch some of the stage shows. This one is a historical recreation group demonstrating the rifles used during that battle.
