The SNCF class BB 15000 is a class of 25 kV 50 Hz electric locomotives built by Alsthom and MTE between 1971 and 1978. Initially 65 locomotives strong, the series was widely used on the whole French 25 kV network before losing services to TGV trains when the LGV Est went into service in 2007.
In the mid-1960s, SNCF sought a new type of dual-current electric locomotives. As thyristor technology advanced rapidly, SNCF decided to adopt the new technology for a new series of locomotives, later known as the Nez Cassés (Broken Noses, due to their cab styling by Paul Arzens) or BB 4400kW. Given that the need for pure AC-locomotives was greatest, SNCF placed an initial order of five locomotives in 1968. In 1969 a second order of 10 locomotives followed, in 1970 a third order was made for another 10 locomotives. The remaining 40 locomotives were ordered in 1973.

France: Passing la Rotonde de Chambery (Roundhouse Depot), after leaving Challes Les Eaux Gare
France: Passing la Rotonde de Chambery (Roundhouse Depot) behind 67373 after leaving Chambery Challes Les Eaux Gare. Recorded 24th May 2009
The railway roundhouse Chambery is located in Chambery a rotunda, next to the railway station. Since 1984, it is classified in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
The rotunda was built between 1906 and 1910, and renovated in the 2000s. The roof of the dome ring has been changed at the expense of the SNCF. Regarding the coverage of the central dome and the glass skylight, their restoration has been funded with support from the General Council of Savoie and projects Great Lake and historic renovation of the Cité des Ducs. The upper metal structure having suffered greatly, it was decided to change all the damaged parts and attacked by the age and rust. To do this, the reconstruction was made identical with assembly of elements by hot riveting as the original profession that requires a rare and expensive.
This is the largest ever built in France rotunda: a diameter of 110 meters and 36 channels it can accommodate up to 72 locomotives.
It is topped by a metal frame hinged at its base. It is now the sole rotunda in France to be completely closed and 360 ° with the central dome yet (the rotunda P Avignon, built in 1946 and prototype series, is also circular 360 °, but has no central dome).
This rotunda all iron and steel has been installed according to the technique of Gustave Eiffel workshops Magnard Fourchambault. The work of the 2000s proved to be even more necessary that the rotunda began seriously to take more water in case of rain, and thus deteriorating rolling stock parked below.

The metropolitan area has more than 125,000 residents, extending from the vineyard slopes of the Combe de Savoie, almost to the shores of the Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France. The city is a major railway hub, at the midpoint of the Franco-Italian Lyon-Turin Ferroviaire rail link.
The Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux station provides rail connections, including a nonstop TGV service to Paris-Gare de Lyon. High-speed rail service also continues east along the Maurienne Valley and through the Fréjus Rail Tunnel to Turin, Italy.
