South Ayrshire is one of thirty-two council areas of Scotland, covering the southern part of Ayrshire. It borders onto Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire. Following the 2017 council election, Labour and the Scottish National Party announced an agreement to control the council, supported by both independent councillors, despite the fact that the Conservatives emerged as the largest party on the council with an increased majority, with the SNP's Douglas Campbell serving as Leader of the Council and Labour's Helen Moonie returning as Provost.

    Dunure is a small village in the South Ayrshire area of Scotland about 5 miles from Ayr, Scotland. It is located on the coast of the Firth of Clyde, and is near to Maybole, south of Ayr. The village is most notable for its ruined mediaeval castle in a clifftop setting, its small former fishing harbour nearby, and a small plant maze known as the Dunure Labyrinth.

    Doune Castle is a medieval stronghold near the village of Doune, in the Stirling district of central Scotland. The castle is sited on a wooded bend where the Ardoch Burn flows into the River Teith. It lies 8 miles north-west of Stirling, where the Teith flows into the River Forth. Upstream, 8 miles further north-west, the town of Callander lies at the edge of the Trossachs, on the fringe of the Scottish Highlands. Recent research has shown that Doune Castle was originally built in the thirteenth century, then probably damaged in the Scottish Wars of Independence, before being rebuilt in its present form in the late 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany , the son of King Robert II of Scots, and Regent of Scotland from 1388 until his death.
