The valley includes over 7,302 acres of vineyards, more than half of which are dedicated to producing Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet blends. It is a historic wine-producing region and the birthplace of the Chilean wine industry, with vines growing there for the past 150 years.
The Maipo Valley can be divided in three sub-regions: Alto Maipo, Central Maipo, and Pacific Maipo.

Santiago de Chile , or simply Santiago, is the capital and largest city of Chile as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. It is the center of Chile's largest and the most densely populated conurbation. The city is entirely located in the country's central valley, at an elevation of 520 m (1,706 ft) above mean sea level.
Founded in 1541, Santiago has been the capital city of Chile since colonial times. The city has a downtown core of 19th century neoclassical architecture and winding side-streets, dotted by art deco, neo-gothic, and other styles. Santiago's cityscape is shaped by several stand-alone hills and the fast-flowing Mapocho River, lined by parks such as Parque Forestal. The Andes Mountains can be seen from most points in the city. These mountains contribute to a considerable smog problem, particularly during winter. The city outskirts are surrounded by vineyards and Santiago is within a few hours of both the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
Santiago is the cultural, political and financial center of Chile and is home to the regional headquarters of many multinational corporations. The Chilean executive and judiciary are located in Santiago, but Congress meets mostly in nearby Valparaíso. Santiago is named after the biblical figure St. James.

A MELHOR VINÍCOLA DO CHILE | VIÑA UNDURRAGA

The bulk of Chile's industrial and commercial activity is concentrated in the national and regional capital of Santiago, but there are important farm-supply, marketing, and processing activities at San Bernardo (location of major railroad shops), Puente Alto (a paper- and gypsum-processing center), Melipilla, Talagante, and Buin. Dairy and beef production are significant; the main crops are grains, grapes, potatoes, and beans. Copper, gypsum, and limestone are mined. Marketing is facilitated by the proximity of urban centers, by main-line railroad communications, and by the best-developed regional road system in Chile.
Santiago is Chile's retail capital. Falabella, Paris, Johnson, Ripley, La Polar, and several other department stores dot the mall landscape of Chile. The east side neighborhoods like Vitacura, La Dehesa, and Las Condes are home to Santiago's Alonso de Cordova street, and malls like Parque Arauco, Alto Las Condes, Mall Plaza (a chain of malls present in Chile and other Latin American countries) and Costanera Center are known for their luxurious shopping. Alonso de Cordova, Santiago's equivalent to Rodeo Drive or Rua Oscar Freire in São Paulo, has exclusive stores like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Emporio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ermenegildo Zegna, Swarovski, MaxMara, Longchamp, and others. Alonso de Cordova also houses some of Santiago's most famous restaurants, art galleries, wine showrooms and furniture stores. The Costanera Center has stores like Armani Exchange, Banana Republic, Façonnable, Hugo Boss, Swarovski, and Zara. There are plans for a Saks Fifth Avenue in Santiago. Several mercados in the city sell local goods. Barrio Bellavista is where some of the most exclusive night clubs and chic cafes are located.

Cueca in Chile children and adults
We hope you enjoyed this video. If so please like or share. If you would like to know more about horse riding in Chile visit our website -
Dancing the cueca at a country fiesta after a rodeo in Chile. San Jose de Maipo. Alongside every country rodeo in Chile there is a 'casino' - a place to eat and drink. Very often in the evening, especially Saturday which is the first day of the rodeo, there is dancing and the cueca and the cumbia, popular local country dances, predominate. The huge pleasure for an outsider looking on is the presence of children dancing in among the adults in a way which is rarely seen in first world countries. Here there is no concept of 'babysitting', so children accompany their parents to evening events. The very small ones just fall asleep, the others join in, as do many of the dogs who are always present.
In the Cajon del Maipo near Santiago Chile there are upwards of a dozen rodeo clubs with their own media luna. The cueca is the national dance of Chile and the rich learn to do it for special events, but the poor of Chile have the cueca in their hearts and all dance it instinctively, often and well. Here the children, blending in with adults, give a terrific display. The young boys, and increasingly girls, start riding in rodeos at an early age, like 10 years old, and all the children of families keen on rodeo riding and cueca dancing, have the kit. For men/boys it is a sombrero, a striped manta, a short jacket (Eton College style), black trousers and special huaso boots. The country girls wear flowered dresses and the grander ladies wear either black long skirts and little huaso-type jackets or in this case, white.
The country culture is still alive and well in Chile, especially in the Cajon del Maipo where we keep our horses. They are used by the guides who take you horseback riding in the nearby mountains, in rodeos. The same horses and men take (our arriero guides who also ride a s 'huasos' in rodeos) you on horse riding trips into the nearby Andes mountains. Some of them are 'inscrito' corralero horses, like thoroughbreds, and others are stronger rougher mountain horses, ideal for the rocky mountain trails of the Andes near Santiago.
The opportunity to visit a rodeo and stay for the dancing in the evening is not easy to find, but rodeos are regularly held at weekends in the Cajon del Maipo and sometimes we can arrange a visit after a riding trip with horseridingchile.com outside Santiago. It is one of the things to do near Santiago.
