Talihina is a town in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, United States, its name originating from two Choctaw words, tully and hena, meaning iron road. Iron road is reference to the railroad that the town was built around. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas–Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,114 at the 2010 census, a loss of 8.0 percent from 1,211 at the 2000 census.

1. Talimena State Park Talihina
Talimena State Park is an Oklahoma state park located in LeFlore County in eastern Oklahoma. The 20 acres park is at the Oklahoma entrance to Talimena Scenic Drive, about 7 miles north of Talihina, Oklahoma. and 20 miles south of Wister. It offers opportunities for camping, hiking, biking, and wildlife watching.The park is the western end of the Ouachita National Recreation Trail, which travels 223 miles through the Ouachita Mountains from Talimena State Park to Pinnacle Mountain State Park, just west of Little Rock, Arkansas.In 2010, this park entertained about 7,600 visitors and earned $28,400 from activity fees. The operating cost was $11,800. It was called one of the five least expensive Oklahoma state parks.

Talimena Scenic Drive - Route 1 - Talihina, Oklahoma

The Talimena Scenic Drive has everything that a motorcyclist could desire in the afterlife. This rugged highway isn't for everyone however. Sharp curves, steep inclines, remote location, and wilderness characteristics should stand as a warning to the less adventurous or experienced riders.

Fifty-four miles of nationally recognized scenic drive is spread out between Mena, Arkansas, and Talihina, Oklahoma. It climbs, curves, and dips across both Rich and Winding Stair Mountains. Bear, deer, and turkey live in the dense forests on either side of the road. Panoramic vistas are spaced strategically along the route which allows the rider to stretch for a few minutes and take in the view.

Bikers are a different breed. Their makeup requires a different habitat from the more settled parts of the human race. They need a road that can match the untamed spirit inside them. They know that it's not the destination, but the journey that matters most.

Talimena State Park

Talimena State Park marks the Oklahoma entrance to the Talimena National Scenic Drive, a winding road through the Winding Stair Mountains that is known for spectacular spring and fall foliage. There are hiking, backpacking, dirt bikes and ATV trails throughout the Ouachita National Forest begin at Talimena State Park and offer a wide range of scenic, wooded terrain. Talimena State Park offers facilities for picnics and camping.
