Tumkur is one of the industrial cities located in the state of Karnataka, also known as Shaikshanika Nagari and Kalpatharu Nadu . Since 28 August 2010, Tumkur has been accorded the status of a City Corporation. It is situated at a distance of 70 km northwest of Bangalore, along National Highway NH-4 and NH-206. It is the headquarters of the Tumkur district. Tumkur hosts India's first mega food park, a project of the ministry of food processing. The India Food Park was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014.

At 3,930 ft elevation, Madhugiri is a single hill. It is the second largest monolith in Asia.[1] Nestled on its steep slopes is a fort. Antaralada Bagilu, Diddibagilu, and Mysuru Gate are the three gateways of the fort. A series of doorways leads to the hill. The ruined temple of Gopalakrishna is located at the top. The construction of the original mudfort was undertaken by Raja Hira Gowda in the 17th century around 1670 AD. An interesting incident prompted the Gowda family to considering building a fortress.     Namada Chilume is a natural spring situated by Devarayanadurga, near Tumkur in the state of Karnataka in India. The spring issues from the surface of the rock. It is believed that Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, stayed here during their exile in the forest. Rama searched for water to apply tilaka to his forehead. When he could not find any water, he shot an arrow at the rock. The arrow penetrated the rock, made a hole, and the water came out. Henceforth, this place was called Namada Chilume, meaning Spring of Tilak. As shown in the picture, the water comes out from a small hole throughout the year and never dries up. The water that comes out is considered as sacred water . It is approximately 14 km from Tumkur and 80 km from Bengaluru.
