Hidden Gems: Napier, New Zealand
Want to learn how to travel around New Zealand in style? Peter goes old school in a 1939 Packard, discovers an unusual all-terrain vehicle, and flies high with some innovative airplane technology. But no matter how you get around New Zealand, there's always a story to learn on the journey. As he tours coastal town of Napier, learn about how the hardy kiwi spirit rebuilt the community after a devastating earthquake, and how that history is reflected in today's architecture. Check it out in our latest installment of Hidden Gems: New Zealand, traveling through Napier and beyond. For more information, please visit
Napier to Gisborne via Shine Falls & Mahia - North Island Roadtrip Vlog Day 10
Day 10 of our 42-day trip around the North Island of New Zealand saw us leave Napier after a good break there and head to Gisborne via Lake Tutira, Shine Falls, and the Mahia Peninsula. We followed the Hawkes Bay coastline as much as possible, and for the entire trip, the Mahia Peninsula was shrouded in clouds making it very mysterious, perhaps apt given the Rocket Lab launch facility there. This stretch of coast is full of beautiful beaches, but they are predominately black sand or gravel. Along the way, we also stopped in at:
-Spirit of Napier
-Bay View
-Tangoio Beach
-Waipatiki Beach
-Lake Tutira
-Shine Falls
-Wairoa
-Mahia Beach
-Gisborne
In Napier, we were staying at the Nautilus, a beautiful hotel. Gisborne was a challenge to find any accommodation though. We never found out why everything was booked out, but ultimately, we settled on an Airbnb, a luxury caravan! It was a new experience for us as it was the first time we've stayed in a fully self-contained caravan, but it was pretty cool. If you can handle the chemical toilet and cosy bed and shower, it's a great place to stay!
For dinner, we decided to give Burger Wisconsin's two vegetarian burger options a try and really enjoyed them. Well worth a try!

-- About this video --
We are arriving in Cromwell in the Otago region of New Zealand. We’re going to wind down the activities for the day with a relaxing social activity that happens to be the most popular sport in New Zealand with the highest participation rate... It’s golf! Cromwell Golf Club seems like a good place for our first round of golf in New Zealand.
Golf is an affordable sport in New Zealand with some fantastic golf courses found all over New Zealand. Cromwell Golf Club is the most inland golf course in New Zealand with consistent sunny weather so the course is in good dry condition. We play golf to the surroundings of mountains, lakes and fruit orchards. Aside from the fact that we are terrible and playing golf, we have so much fun playing golf in New Zealand. If you’re spending time in Queenstown, Cromwell is a short drive from Queenstown so is also worth considering for some golf in Queenstown.
So what do you think about playing golf in New Zealand? Would you consider giving it a go on your New Zealand travel itinerary? LUK in the comments!

Steens Honey - Our Story
Steens Honey is New Zealand's leading producer of high grade UMF Manuka honey. The company was started by Paul and Sheryl Steens because they wanted to bring a better quality Manuka to market; one that is raw, unpasteurised and minimally processed - just as nature intended.
We've been beekeeping for over 34 years so we know a thing or two about honey. Subjecting our Manuka to high temperatures just isn't in our thinking. You won't find us cranking up the heat to 70C (168F) and creaming our honey. Studies have shown that the flavonoids and enzymes which give Manuka it's unique qualities are damaged through these heating processes. Most commercial honeys are creamed which means the honey is processed twice and the natural crystals are melted out to give it a smooth consistency. Steens Manuka is different. Our honey is raw & unpasteurised which means the natural crystals are retained. Its like dipping your finger straight into the honeycomb.
