Our trip to Thailand was definitely one of the best one yet! The culture, food, lifestyle, beaches, hikes, etc. were all marvelous. Spending Christmas and New Years here couldn't have been any better. Thank you Thailand for an awesome 2 week getaway vacation. Doi Suthep
Gleaming like a northern star from the heights of Doi Suthep (the regal mountain overlooking the city from the northwest) is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is one of the most historically and spiritually significant places in Thailand and is an impressive embodiment of the Lanna culture, with its origins dating back almost 700 years.
Chiang Mai Zoo
Covering 200 acres of land in the foothills of Doi Suthep and providing excellent views of the city in addition to fascinating wildlife exhibits, Chiang Mai Zoo is certainly worth a visit. Nearly 400 species of animal are kept here, including the two 'cultural ambassador' or pandas from China.
Chiang Mai Night Safari
Modeled after a similar attraction in Singapore, Chiang Mai Night Safari features three animal zones – Savanna Safari, Predator Prowl, Jaguar Trail – which you can tour via an open-sided tram or on foot. Enjoy a range of activities designed to keep you entertained throughout your visit, from hand-feeding wild animals and petting tiger cubs to a laser light show and ‘dancing’ fountain.
Wat Chedi Luang
Built sometime between 1385 and 1402, during the reign of King Saen Muang Ma, 7th ruler of the Mengrai dynasty, Wat Chedi Luang's massive chedi (pagoda) is a distinctive feature of the Chiang Mai skyline. At its peak, the chedi measured 60 metres across at the square base and 80 metres tall and was once the home of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most sacred religious relic.
Wiang Kum Kam the Underground Ancient City
Located in attractive countryside about five kilometres south of Chiang Mai along the Ping River, Wiang Kum Kam is an ancient city dating back to the eighth-century Haripunchai Kingdom. Expect to see many interesting items and structures such as stone tablets with Mon inscriptions, Buddhist sculptures and architecture, earthenware and pottery.
Mae Sa Elephant Camp
Having secured their names in the Guinness World Record, the elephants at the Mae Sa Elephant Camp are no ordinary beasts. Apart from going about their daily routine of bathing, eating, sleeping and just being domesticated elephants, these extremely intelligent animals have been trained to paint, play football, dance and perform a string of talent shows that will change the way you think about Thai elephants.
Doi Inthanon National Park
Doi Inthanon, the highest peak in Thailand, rises 2,565 metres above sea level. Known as a sanctuary for a wide range of animal species and perhaps the best place in Thailand for bird-watching, the park has approximately 362 different species, many of which are not found anywhere else in Thailand. Doi Inthanon is a popular destination, not only for its natural beauty, but also for its historical significance.
Doi Pui Tribal Village and National Park
Doi Pui, at 1,685metres above sea level, is the highest peak in the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. It is famous for its beautiful waterfalls which are easily reached from the main road. But one of the hottest attractions for Doi Pui must be Hmong Tribal Village situated less than five kilometres from the famous Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
Karen Long Neck Tribe & Chiang Dao Cave
At Chiang Dao cave, the caverns stretch many kilometres into the mountain yet only a small part of the complex is possible to explore. Two of the caves, Tham Phra Nawn and Tham Seua Dao, are illuminated by electric lights, but the upper caves are pitch-black and requires a local lantern-carrying guides to lead the way.
Bo Sang Handicraft Village
The handcrafting of umbrellas and parasols in Bo Sang Village is known throughout the country and even abroad – so much so that the umbrella has become one of the symbols of Chiang Mai. Here, you'll find plenty of hand-painted umbrellas, tiny cocktail umbrellas, large parasols for gardens or patios and other handmade products – all made from sa paper in various designs and at reasonable prices.

Phenomenal Khao Soi (Curry Noodles) in Lampang, Thailand
Khao Soi (ข้าวซอย) is a northern Thai, noodles and curry dish. Read more about it here:
Khao soi (ข้าวซอย) is easily one of the most famous dishes from the north of Thailand. For me, it’s a dish that can either be really good or really bad. Sometimes it’s really bad because the ingredients are not fresh, and because the curry is way too sweet and way too oily. But every now and then, when I’m in northern Thailand, I have a bowl of khao soi (ข้าวซอย) that absolutely blows my mind… and at Khao Soi Islam (ข้าวซอยอิสลาม ลำปาง) truly served me one of the best bowls of the dish that I’ve ever had in my life.
Khao Soi Islam (ข้าวซอยอิสลาม), not to be confused with a restaurant by the same name in Chiang Mai, is located right in the heart of the old part of Lampang. The restaurant is owned and operated by a family, who has been serving and cooking khao soi for generations. The restaurant, as the name suggests, serves strictly Halal food.
As soon as I arrived, I could smell the curry, and the owner and his family were all extremely friendly and greeted us as we arrived. One of the first things I noticed was a pan full of freshly made egg noodles sitting on the counter, and that was my first sign that it was going to be epic. For my first bowl of noodles, I ordered khao soi neua (ข้าวซอยเนื้อ), curry noodles with beef. The noodle master, the owner of the restaurant, expertly blanched the fresh egg noodles, then divided them into bowls, and then covered them in his blend of curry sauce along with nuggets of beef. He then topped each bowl with a handful of crispy fried egg noodles, the typical topping of any bowl of khao soi.
Before adding any chili, I first, tasted the curry sauce. To my extreme delight, the curry sauce was not sweet at all - in fact I don’t think there was any sugar at all involved in his recipe. The curry was rich and creamy, nicely flavored with curry powder. Equally as delicious were the egg noodles, which tasted extremely fresh, slightly chewy and soft at the same time. The combination was so incredibly good I could hardly contain my delight. But after sampling my khao soi, I then added in a couple scoops of chili sauce, which gave my bowl of noodles a lovely smoky roasted chili flavor, and I tossed in the plate of condiments which included pickled mustard greens, sliced shallots, and a squeeze of lime juice. I have to say this was one of the finest bowls of khao soi (ข้าวซอย) I’ve ever had in my life.
We also tried the khanom pang na gai (ขนมปังหน้าไก่), little pieces of bread topped with chicken and shallow fried in oil. They were alright, but not really my thing, and they were no where in comparison to the deliciousness of the khao soi.
I could not stop at one bowl, so after slurping down the first bowl I ordered khao soi gai (ข้าวซอยไก่), the chicken version. Again, it was mind-blowingly delicious, but overall I think the beef was better - just out of my love for beef.
If you ever visit Lampang, Thailand (which is a wonderful city by the way), Khao Soi Islam (ข้าวซอยอิสลาม) is a restaurant you’re not going to want to miss.

Floating Market Bangkok - Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง)

There are many floating markets scattered throughout Bangkok. Though markets where vendors sold things directly from their boats in the canals was once a daily life activity, nowadays floating markets in Bangkok are mostly used as a way to escape the annoyance of city life and spend a day relaxing.
One of the coolest markets these days is Talad Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง), a floating market that sets up on the weekends just south of Bangkok in an area called Phra Pradaeng.
Bang Nam Pheung is a wonderful place to spend the day browsing, shopping and of course, eating as much Thai food as possible.
In the course of the video I'll take you on a little tour of the market to give you an idea of what to expect when you go.
I stopped to enjoy a delicious bowl of Thai noodles filled with ivy gourd leaves and also samples a dish of rice topped with smoked oven roasted pork. They food was served from a floating boat, but it was more of a permanent setting - but that was alright!
Gac fruit is very popular at the market and a trip to Bang Nam Pheung floating market (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง) wouldn't be complete without purchasing a bottle to sample. Big bottles cost 35 THB while small bottles run 20 THB. I thought it was extremely delicious, a refreshing taste of sweet tomato and papaya.
To get to the floating market you can either take a taxi directly there, or you can go the more adventurous route.
Here are further directions - it's easiest to come this route via Bangkok's Sukhumvit road.
Take a taxi to Wat Bang Na Nawk (วัดบางนานอก) which is a temple which is located on the river.
Take the the ferry boat across the river - it only goes one place and the cost is just 4 THB.
Get on the back of a motorbike taxi and they will take you straight to the doorstep of the floating market. There will be many others taking motorbikes to the market as well, so there's no getting lost. Cost is 10 THB per person.
Opening Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 8 am - 2 pm, I showed up at about 11 am.
Time: The market is quite large so plan for about 2 - 4 hours of leisure browsing including lunch.
