Yangshuo China Travel
Cost of living / traveling in Yangshuo China for one month.
Yangshuo is not the cheapest place in China, but still very decent. Just try to avoid Chinese national holidays when everything is up to 5 times more expensive.
We highly recommend this hotel

Here's a detailed breakdown of information as mentioned in the film (a table of contents, if you will):
0:30 - Views from the Train Ride from Hong Kong to Yangshuo
1:14 - Arriving in Yangshuo: What is the town like?
A bit of background on the town and how it might not be the nature serenity you are looking for.
1:35 - How to get to the Yangshuo TV Tower Viewpoint (hard climb)
The best views in Yangshuo are accessible from the town centre, but it's a pretty long climb up to the top of a mountain. We followed the instructions on how to get there by ILP Blog, a really good article. Remember to bring 10 Yuan per person:
3:23 - This is what the TV Tower view looks like
4:03 - The Views from Yangshuo Park (easy climb)
A much less physically demanding climb to some nice views over the town. It's a really nice public park too, definitely worth checking out.
4:28 - Our Accommodation, Sudder Street Guesthouse
Great place to stay, just outside the town centre. An amazing pool, with great views. Dorms are £3 a night and private rooms (en-suite) with a balcony are £18.
4:55 - Yangshuo National Park
This is where you'll spend most of your time and where you will find the famous bamboo rafts that you've seen on Instagram. We rented bicycles to get around, but some people rent mopeds/motorbikes instead. You're going to want the freedom of your own transport.
6:00 - Here's the bamboo rafts
6:26 - Moon Hill, my favourite sunset spot (and favourite part of Yangshuo in general). A natural archway that has featured in one of the Transformers films I think.
And thats it. Any questions, let me know in the comments!

About the video:
This video is the first in a segment on Brendan van Son Travel Photography that I'm calling Getting the Shot.
Basically, what goes down in this segment of the show is simple. I take you through my process of getting a shot out in the field. From the very starting point, in which I am trying to find places to shoot, up to the shot itself, and even the post-processing of the photo, this is a bit of a guide on what goes in to getting a great image.
In this first episode of the travel photography channel, I explore the area of Yangshuo, China which really is a fascinating place to shoot travel photography. There are all these really amazing limestone karst landscapes in the Yangshuo region which makes it a great place to go out shooting. The only trouble is that there aren't really that many clean spots along the waterfront to use. We spent the better part of the day searching for somewhere in Yangshuo to photograph that really stood out to us. In the end, we got a place that was only decent.
Anyways, I finally ended up at an old bridge about 15km away from Yangshuo in a place I was somewhat happy to photograph. The light, however, wasn't so happy to see me. It's one of the things we deal with constantly in travel photography. You get to a place, and you really only have a couple days to shoot your travel photos, and you are left in the grips of the light.
In the end, I shot a scene of the bridge with some rushing water coming down in the foreground.
I shot the image at f/14, 13 seconds, ISO 100 at 11mm. I shot the photo on a sigma 10-20mm lens with a Canon 60D. I also used a gradient ND Filter.
I processed the image in Lightroom 4 using the most basic techniques in the develop module.
I hope you like the segment and if you did, please make sure you subscribe to the channel!

Guilin China Tour | Li River Cruise
Thank you for watching my video on my time traveling in Guilin China! The first time I visited Guilin China was back in the summer of 2012. This trip was a fun and unique experience. I saw and did things in Guilin this time around that I didn't see or do before. Winter isn't the best time to visit Guilin, but it is still an interesting time to visit. I was captivated by the Guilin mountains peaking through the fog along the Li river. I also went further down the river to visit Yangshuo, which is a must visit if you are in Guilin! I would love to return to Guilin once again in the future with hot and sunny weather!

My focus will always be on the culture, food and of course the local people of everywhere I travel to! I'm an optimist and always try to highlight the positives of a place rather than just the negatives.Though I will also be bluntly honest at times too! If you love travel and exploring far away places, then you found the right place!
