Bozar | Centre for Fine Arts, BRUSSELS
The exhibition The Power of Avant-Garde begins by addressing the very concept of avant-garde. It has come to be synonymous with the break with outlived artistic traditions and the bold departure towards a new understanding of art in the accelerated world of the 20th century.
With the help of around 120 exhibited works, BOZAR examines the impact of the art movements of modernity right through to the present day.

Bozar Open Air I Teaser
The walls of the Centre for Fine Arts can’t keep the beats inside any longer. Throughout the summer there will be a pop-up summer bar with a swimming pool and a non-stop hip-hop flow of activities in Place Baron Horta, right next to BOZAR. Skateboarders teach you their skills on the ramp, graffiti artists create art before your very eyes, and in the selection of films from the System_D festival you get to see what the young people of Brussels really think of their city.

BOZAR: a cultural hub for Europe
THE BOZAR EXPERIENCE IN BRUSSELS: bozar.be
You also find us on Twitter @BOZARbrussels & Facebook!
With more than a million visitors a year, the Centre for Fine Arts is one of the key attractions of the Kunstberg/Mont des Arts. Situated between the Koningsplein/Place Royale and the Central railway station, it forms a brilliantly conceived link, designed in 1928 by Victor Horta, between the upper town and the lower and between the various arts referred to in its name.
The Centre's interdisciplinary approach and the quality of its productions have won it a special place at the cultural epicentre of Brussels. Judge for yourself: 250 concerts a year, on a par with the world's great concert halls, and major international exhibitions. BOZAR is a cultural hub that brings the world's greatest artists to the heart of the capital of Europe and also exports its own productions as far as China! Cinema, theatre, dance, literature, architecture, and art education all partake of the same effervescence, which also owes much to the Centre's long-term partners: 250 a year, both one-off and long-term such as the CINEMATEK, whose international film collection is the most extensive in the world.
With the opening of the hip street-front BOZAR SHOP and a brand new restaurant by David Martin, star of the Brussels gastronomic scene; offering access to culture via a wide range of made-to-measure packages, the Centre for Fine Arts provides a complete experience, open to the Kunstberg/Mont des Arts, the city and the world: THE BOZAR EXPERIENCE!

Opening of the exhibitions: Beyond Klimt and Klimt's Magic Garden, 20.09.2018, BOZAR
1918 was the year the great masters of Viennese Modernism – Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Koloman Moser, and Otto Wagner – all died. Many consider their deaths to represent the end of an era. And yet art in the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s successor states had already drifted away from their influence and moved on. Artistic creativity in this era was for the most part untouched by the political upheavals both during and after the war. There was an overwhelming desire for the new. In Europe between the wars a generation of artists operated under the premise of an international network traversing the new political and ideological boundaries. A lively exchange of ideas resulted in Constructivist, Expressionist, and Fantastic trends and important cosmopolitan networks of artists emerged. This internationalism was abruptly halted by the outbreak of World War II, and the sense of a shared culture faded, once again, into the background.

In a special exhibition, BOZAR ARCHIVES sheds light on the all-embracing arts policy of the Centre for Fine Arts. Visitors will learn how artistic migration has put Belgium on the world's cultural map. At the heart of the exhibition are a number of individuals who fulfilled their international aspirations in association with the Centre for Fine Arts, including the violin virtuoso and UNESCO ambassador Yehudi Menuhin. A son of migrants, with as many as four nationalities, Menuhin appeared at the Centre for Fine Arts over a period of half a century and served sat in the jury seat of the violin editions of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition for forty years. You can follow a virtual guided tour through the Centre's history on a tablet.
