THE BEST PLAYGROUND IN AMERICA - City Museum in St. Louis, Missouri
If Willy Wonka had met Walt Disney they might have created the City Museum.
Honestly, this video doesn't do justice to the City Museum. In fact, I was having so much fun that my camera was an afterthought for most of the day. Besides, there's so much climbing, sliding, and playing (for kids and adults) on all kinds of unique structures that carrying a camera/phone could be hazardous for the device. This was a great way to spend the second-last day of our 15 day road trip across the United States, and was definitely the highlight of St. Louis.

GoPro the City Museum of St. Louis
The City Museum in St. Louis is one of my favorite places on earth. It's a crazy combination of McDonald's playland, but a steam punk/acid trip version, historical artifacts, and fun. I once visited here and the staff told me that if I didn't leave bleeding, I didn't have enough fun. You better believe I had a good time.
Also in this video I wear a head mount for the GoPro Hero3+ and I slide down a 10 story slide. So awesome.

Exploring the City Museum (2019) - Best museum ever?
We spent a day exploring the City Museum -- from the caves to the slides to the airplanes. If you are going to visit St. Louis, you should definitely check it out. This video gives you a look at many of the various sections of the City Museum so you can see what it is like before you go. Be prepared to do lots of crawling, climbing, and sliding!
This was the top reason for our visit to St. Louis after hearing about it from friends that love Meow Wolf as much as we do. We spent about 6 hours exploring all of the caves, slides, and other fun things in the museum.
Tips and advice:
- Bring knee pads or buy some in the gift shop. You'll do lots of crawling and the metal bits really hurt the knees.
- We stayed near the National Blues Museum. It was only about 15 minute walk.
- You can get food in the Museum. It was OK, but we appreciated not having to leave.
- Beatnik Bob's (in the Museum) has St Louis Butter cake and adult beverages.
- There are lots of kids. They reserve some evenings just for adults.
- They have lockers by the entrance since you don't want to drag big bags all over the place with you.
- You can come and go once you have paid your admission.
- The roof wasn't open when we visited. Disappointing, so check before you go. (We just have to go back sometime!)
Our favorite bits:
- The caves are a lot of fun. Some you can walk through easily. They have some small passageways that were very tight for adults.
- The outdoor sections are a lot of fun -- but plan according to the weather. The airplanes and metal slides outside can get quite hot in the sun.
- Beatnik Bob's was a nice break in all the activity.
- We filmed a lot with our GoPro just hand held on a short selfie stick. I think a chest mount would have worked as well. A head mount would have been difficult in many of the tight spaces.
We also have a video about our weekend in St Louis that also included stops at the Gateway Arch, Hamburger Mary's Drag Show Brunch, a black light party, and the National Blues Museum.
