Baby Boomers Tribute Jungleland USA 1929-69 Thousand Oaks So Cal
Baby Boomers Tribute Jungleland USA 1929-69 Thousand Oaks So Cal
Jungleland USA was a private zoo, animal training facility, and animal theme park in Thousand Oaks, California, United States, on the current site of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. At its peak the facility encompassed 170 acres (69 ha).
Louis Goebel created Jungleland in 1926 as a support facility for Hollywood. He had been employed at Universal Studios when the studio decided to close its animal facility. Five of the Universal Studio lions formed the nucleus of Goebel's collection. The facility was originally called Goebel's Lion Farm. Soon a wide variety of exotic animals were obtained, trained, and rented to the studios for use in films. The facility later became a theme park, opened to the public in 1929. Wild animal shows entertained thousands in the 1940s and 1950s. Mabel Stark, the lady lion tamer, was featured in these shows; she also doubled for Mae West in the lion-taming scenes in the 1933 film I'm No Angel. The zoo's residents included Leo the Lion, mascot of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio Mister Ed, the talking horse from the television show of the same name; Bimbo the elephant from the Circus Boy television series; and Tamba the chimpanzee, featured in the Jungle Jim movies and television series.
Many TV and movie productions used the park's trained animals, and many productions were filmed there, including Birth of a Nation, Tarzan, Doctor Dolittle, and The Adventures of Robin Hood. It was also featured prominently in an episode of the television show Route 66 (Season 2, Episode 30, A Feat of Strength) which aired May 18, 1962.
The park made headlines in 1966 when a male lion at the compound mauled the young son of actress Jayne Mansfield. A barn fire in 1940 killed 12 of the animals including tigers, camels and elephants.
Jungleland closed in October 1969, because of competition from other Southern California amusement parks, and because the facility didn't blend in with the increasingly urban character of Thousand Oaks. The company which owned the facilities declared bankruptcy and sold all the movable property at auction: animals, buildings, trucks, furniture and supplies. Goebel retained ownership of the land, which was eventually sold to the city to create the Civic Arts Plaza and other developments.

As you can see, we are witnessing the sunset on the left side of the screen.
U.S. Route 101 (US 101) is a major north–south United States Numbered Highway, stretching from Los Angeles, California to Tumwater, Washington.
The California portion of US 101 is one of the last remaining and longest U.S. Routes still active in the state, and the longest highway of any kind in California.
US 101 was also one of the original national routes established in 1926.
Significant portions of US 101 between the Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay Area follow El Camino Real, the historic road connecting the former Alta California's 21 missions.
The south terminus of US 101 is in Los Angeles, about one mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Los Angeles at the East Los Angeles Interchange, also known as the Commuters' Complex.
This southernmost portion is named the Santa Ana Freeway, inheriting that title as the northerly extension of the roadway now known as I-5.
After merging with westbound traffic from the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10), US 101 then proceeds northwest via the Downtown Slot under the northern edge of Los Angeles' Civic Center to State Route 110 (SR 110) at the Four Level Interchange.
From here, US 101 becomes the Hollywood Freeway.
It then heads to Hollywood and up through the Cahuenga Pass before reaching the San Fernando Valley.
View northward from the Cahuenga Pass in 1972
US 101 then intersects with SR 134 and SR 170 at the interchange known as the Hollywood Split.
Here, the alignment of US 101 shifts to the alignment of SR 134 (i.e. heading northbound, the road's alignment turns left, or westbound) and thereafter is referred to as the Ventura Freeway until it reaches Ventura.
Though confusing, the Hollywood Freeway name continues northward from this interchange on SR 170, and the Ventura Freeway name continues eastward to SR 134.
From the Hollywood Split, US 101 is an east–west highway (until it reaches Gaviota State Park in Santa Barbara County where it shifts back to a north–south alignment). It meets with I-405 in Sherman Oaks, an interchange which holds claim to the most traveled intersection in the nation.
The east–west geographical alignment of the Ventura Freeway and the north–south designation which appears on the freeway signs can be confusing to visitors; the same freeway entrance can often be signed as 101 North and 101 West; this is most common in the San Fernando Valley where the local E/W signing does not match the Caltrans' proper statewide N/S designation.
After the Conejo Grade, which is a 7% grade incline, the freeway enters the Oxnard Plain and runs concurrent with SR 1 for the first time. Upon reaching Ventura, there is an interchange with SR 126, which runs east to Santa Clarita.

Commuting in Los Angeles listening to John f Kennedy!
Saturday Morning commute from Woodland Hills, CA to Westminster. 101 east bound to the 405 south. If you are looking to relocate to Los Angeles and wondering where to live vs where you will work watch this video of the flow of traffic. On this day the traffic was light. Hope you enjoy the ride! Also enjoy listening to one of John f Kennedy speeches:)
U.S. Route 101 (US 101) in the state of California is one of the last remaining and longest U.S. Routes still active in the state, and the longest highway of any kind in California.[5] US 101 was also one of the original national routes established in 1926. Significant portions of US 101 between the Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay Area follow El Camino Real, the historic road connecting the former Alta California's 21 missions.
Although the highway has been superseded in overall importance for transportation through the state by Interstate 5 (I-5), US 101 continues to be the major coastal north–south route that links the Greater Los Angeles Area, the Central Coast, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the North Coast (Redwood Empire). Generally referred to as 101 by residents of Northern California, in Southern California it is often called The 101 (pronounced the one oh one).[6] The highway has portions designated as the Santa Ana Freeway, the Hollywood Freeway, the Ventura Freeway, South Valley Freeway, and Bayshore Freeway. The Redwood Highway, the 350-mile-long (560 km) northernmost segment of the highway, begins at the Golden Gate and passes through the world's tallest and only extensive preserves of virgin, old-growth coast redwood trees.
It meets with I-405 in Sherman Oaks, an interchange which holds claim to the most traveled intersection in the nation.[citation needed] The east–west geographical alignment of the Ventura Freeway and the north–south designation which appears on the freeway signs can be confusing to visitors; the same freeway entrance can often be signed as 101 North and 101 West; this is most common in the San Fernando Valley where the local E/W signing does not match the Caltrans' proper statewide N/S designation.
Interstate 405 (I-405), also known as the San Diego Freeway is a major north–south Interstate Highway in Southern California. It is a bypass auxiliary route of Interstate 5 (similar to I-215 bypassing I-15 in the Inland Empire and SR 85 bypassing U.S. 101 in Silicon Valley), running along the southern and western parts of the Greater Los Angeles urban area from Irvine in the south to near San Fernando in the north. The entire route is known as the northern segment of the San Diego Freeway, and passes the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The 405 is a heavily traveled thoroughfare by both commuters and by freight haulers along its entire length and is the busiest and most congested freeway in the United States.[2][3] The freeway's annual average daily traffic between exits 21 and 22 in Seal Beach reached 374,000 in 2008, making it the highest count in the nation.[4] It has played a crucial role in the development of dozens of cities and suburbs along its route through Los Angeles and Orange counties. Interstate 405 begins at the El Toro Y interchange with Interstate 5 in southeastern Irvine. It then runs northwest through Orange County to Long Beach in Los Angeles County. The freeway then roughly follows the outline of the Pacific coast, varying between five and ten miles (16 km) inland before crossing over the Sepulveda Pass in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Hundreds demonstrate in Santa Clara in protest of CAA
Several hundred people from across Northern California holding placards and shouting Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Isaiah (Christians) are brothers, the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) has to be abolished, and RSS out of India, at a protest hosted by the Bay Area Coalition of Concerned Citizens on Sun., Dec. 15, at the civic park in Santa Clara, California.
People attending the protests fear the Citizenship Amendment Bill(CAB) passed this week in India foretells a fatal blow to a secular society in India, attendees said. CAB provides a path to Indian citizenship for religious minorities, specifically Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians, but Muslims are excluded.
“We will never let India divide again,” Ahsan Khan, president of Indian American Muslim Community (IAMC), one the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with 13 chapters across the US told attendees who came to show solidarity with minorities in India. “CAB is certainly dividing India on the religious minds, we definitely won’t not accept this at all.”
It’s unacceptable. India has a history of having a very rich heritage, and different communities living together, whether they are Muslim, Hindu, Sikhs, Christians, and that is the idea which we believe there should, Khan told those assembled.
“We strongly believe that there should be peace and pluralism, and secularism is very important in India,” Khan told indica on the sidelines of the protest. “And if we are hurting that secularism fabric then that is not acceptable. See the kinds of things are happening in India, we fear division of India.”
Referring to Amit Shah, India’s minister of Home Affairs who has been president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2014, Khan said, “He talked about all sects except Muslim, and that is concerning.”
Khan added that it is very much clear the CAB needs a lot of changes.
Bhajan Singh, of the Sikh Information Center, one of the main groups represented by the protests’ attendees, on the impact of protest on the Indian government, told indica, “Of course, the momentum is the indication of the level of oppression and the oppression indications a momentum here.”
“I think India is going to have a bright new future with the new awakening of all the minorities finally coming together and wanting a true, free India for everyone,” said Singh.
He said he believes the protest is not just against the CAB but the culmination of so many effects, including the oppression from Sikh Temple 1984 to Kashmir and abrogation of Article 370 and now CAB. So, CAB is one of the strokes that is making everybody nervous.
Pieter Friedrich, an analyst of South Asian affairs, told indica, “The oppression is ongoing for years, and now we have the annexation of Kashmir and the future of India looks pretty grim.”
When he was asked about people saying he is controversial when it concerns India, Friedrich said, “ I love India, people, culture and food, and I am standing against supremacy of any kind, whether it’s RSS or BJP.”
Faisal Bhamban, representing the Kerala Muslim Community Association, said, “If it’s passed, it can be unpassed and revoked and just because the mistake has been made.”
“And the next step of BJP is national register of citizens (NRC) and CAB combined are poisonous mixture,” he said.
The environment in India and these things have happened before on a nationwide scale, In India in 1984 was the Sikh Massacre. or genocide, and in 1992 and we have seen Gujarat and in 2002, all these are happening state forces, he said.
