Tarrying in Talkeetna
Many of you may remember the town of Cicily that the TV show 'Northern Exposure' took place in. Talkeetna is the town that gave the inspiration to what the town of Cicily was like.
I fit a lot into the few days I was there:
•A Rail'n Raft trip with Denali View Raft Adventures
•Hiking the Kesugi Range in Denali State Park
•Flightseeing into the Alaska Range landing at Denali Base Camp to pick up climbers with Alaska Air Taxi
•Renting a fat tire bike from Northern Shore Cyclery to explore some of the off road areas of Talkeetna
•Attending the local 4th of July parade
•Running in the Talkeetna All Trails 10k
•Trying treats from local eateries
•Staying at 2 different Airbnbs in the area, a tiny house at The Grove and a yurt at Talkeetna East Side Cabins.
I met lots of great people at my accommodations and on the trails. I ran around Tigger Lake early in my stay and crossed paths with the trail organizer for the race. On one of his signs marking the race course he wrote Go Scott (Maine). On race day I got asked if I was Scott from Maine quite a bit. That's where my name 'Scott From Maine' came from. Talkeetna requires a lot more than a drive through through their downtown. Dig a little deeper and there's lots to explore!
