Brussels, European Quarter - Belgium 4K Travel Channel
In the European Quarter of Brussels, the capital of Europe, you find the seat of the Council of Europe, the European Commission and the second seat of the European Parliament, beside Strasbourg.
It is Saturday, no working day for the parliamentarians, but we want to see the place where a significant influence on our everyday life is exerted.
We go by subway up to the stop Trone and approach the European Quarter in the west of Brussels. Even from a distance you can guess the dimensions of this building complex. The widely curved building connections over our heads convey the feeling to be an ant. The further we explore the terrain, the stronger the feeling.
The mirrored facades make it impossible to look into the interior. Cameras, scanners and identity checks on all entrances do not give the feeling of being welcome. The only part that is open on Saturdays is the Parlamentarium, the EU visitors' center with multimedia components in all 24 official European languages. Our standard camera was unwelcome, fortunately, we still had a slightly smaller one with us.
Slightly northeast of the parliament, we reach the European Commission and the Council of Europe. The gigantic office complexes which do not fit in a grown city like Brussels and convey the feeling of Orwell's 1985.
We left the place with the feeling that we met an institution, which hides together with its lobby organizations behind its sealed windows while it is engaged in watching and supervising its citizens.
Hopefully, the two electric cars at their charging station are not only a fig leaf of the EU, but a sign that the EU really does something for the climate protection.

European Council: introduction to Europa Building, Brussels
The 28 member states of the European Union have a new headquarter since December 2016.
The European Council’s new lantern-shaped building, whose overall cost is an estimated €321 million, has been designed with the idea of creating a gathering space away from the noise and dust in the middle of the city’s mess, said architect and engineer Philippe Samyn.
Nestled in the heart of the European district in Brussels, the ‘Europa’ building will be the first step in an effort to improve the looks of the EU quarters, complete with a new pedestrian zone crossing the Schuman roundabout.
The construction of the Europa building was decided by EU leaders in 2004 in order to take account of the enlargement of the EU and be able to host all summits in Brussels. The building currently used (the Justus Lipsius) was built at the end of the 1980s but was not designed to host summits, which, at the time, were held elsewhere in Brussels. Also, in recent years, the number of summits has increased and reached a record number of twelve in 2015.
The Europa building meets the specific needs of the Council of Europe and the European Council by offering the level of security required and respects the concept of sustainable development as much in terms of the materials as the technologies used. Innovative, the new building preserves the old part of the former Résidence Palace. Two new glazed walls transform the building into a cube. Inside this cube, a lantern-shaped space has been created with elliptical floors of variable dimensions. This lantern will mainly be visible from outside when the building is lit up. The floors, ceilings, doors and elevator shaft present works by the Belgian artist Georges Meurant, which take the form of colour square combinations.
The facade is a patchwork of recycled wooden frames recovered from renovation or demolition projects in all EU countries. The project has two aims: to promote sustainable development and recycling, and bear witness to the know-how of the EU and the EU's cultural diversity. Indeed, the facade recalls the EU's motto Unity in diversity because all the windows are different but all the frames are in oak or in wood of a similar variety.
The Europa building was designed by the architects Samyn & Partners (Belgium), Studio Valle Progettazioni (Italy) and Buro Happold (United Kingdom). The Belgian authorities, via the intermediary of the Régie des Bâtiments, are the main contractor for the construction works. The Europa building has been built in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. In June 2009, the project received the special Green Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum (Museum of Architecture and Design).

European Union (EU:
The European Parliament (EP) is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union (EU). Together with the Council of the European Union (the Council) and the European Commission, it exercises the legislative function of the EU. The Parliament is composed of 751 (previously 766) members, who represent the second largest democratic electorate in the world (after the Parliament of India) and the largest trans-national democratic electorate in the world (375 million eligible voters in 2009).
It has been directly elected every five years by universal suffrage since 1979. However, voter turnout at European Parliament elections has fallen consecutively at each election since that date, and has been under 50% since 1999. Voter turnout in 2014 stood at 42.54% of all European voters.
Although the European Parliament has legislative power that the Council and Commission do not possess, it does not formally possess legislative initiative, as most national parliaments of European Union member states do. The Parliament is the first institution of the EU (mentioned first in the treaties, having ceremonial precedence over all authority at European level),[10] and shares equal legislative and budgetary powers with the Council (except in a few areas where the special legislative procedures apply). It likewise has equal control over the EU budget. Finally, the European Commission, the executive body of the EU, is accountable to Parliament. In particular, Parliament elects the President of the Commission, and approves (or rejects) the appointment of the Commission as a whole. It can subsequently force the Commission as a body to resign by adopting a motion of censure.
The President of the European Parliament (Parliament's speaker) is Martin Schulz (S&D), elected in January 2012. He presides over a multi-party chamber, the two largest groups being the Group of the European People's Party (EPP) and the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D). The last union-wide elections were the 2014 elections.
The European Parliament has three places of work – Brussels (Belgium), the city of Luxembourg (Luxembourg) and Strasbourg (France). Luxembourg is home to the administrative offices (the 'General Secretariat'). Meetings of the whole Parliament ('plenary sessions') take place in Strasbourg and in Brussels. Committee meetings are held in Brussels.Wikipedia
Belgium: Brussels, the Capital of Crime | European Journal
Brussels is not just the capital of the European Union -- it's also a center for crime. Officials and members of parliament alike have been robbed and beaten in the middle of the city's European quarter. Criminals know that many people here carry a laptop,a pricey cell-phone and a full wallet. Often, the lawbreakers hail from the city's immigrant neighborhoods, home to 40 percent of the population in Brussels. One out of every two young people here is unemployed. The police here are poorly equipped and poorly paid -- and feel they're fighting a losing battle.

Brussels is the Heart of Europe!
One of the top Brussels attraction Grand Place is covered in this video.
Nightview of streets of brussels is covered in this video.
It is the ultimate European city with a mosaic of languages and cultures paving a way for a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene. With over 80 museums, the King’s Palace and a wealth of history, culture is equally accessible.
Impossible to miss is the Grand Place, which was built as a merchants' market in the 13th century. Smack in the city centre, it plays host to numerous festivals and concerts year round and is also where you can discover the tiny Manneken-Pis, the somewhat peculiar symbol of the city. Towering over surrounding buildings, it can serve as a compass during your exploration of the city; be sure to indulge in chocolate at the Sablon.
As the home of European politics, Brussels is the city that best exemplifies European political life. Accessible from all corners of Europe, the city is steeped in political pedigree and long-standing historical traditions.
Brussels is home to the EU's most important institutions, such as the European Commission, European Council and European Parliament. Established after the Maastricht Treaty of 1993, the EU has successfully integrated 28 European countries into a single political project since is birth. Ranging from the presence of Europe's leading politicians at meetings of the European Council to the constant presence of elected members of the European Parliament, Brussels EU seeks to improve the lives of all Europeans under a common banner of solidarity. Brussels' importance to European politics cannot be overstated.
After finishing a tour of one of the institutions in the European Quarter, Brussels offers many restaurants to indulge in. A real standout restaurant is Gourmand, a French/Italian restaurant and wine bar priding itself on a simple menu and value for money. Price per head ranges from €15 - €29. It is a truly European experience with well-cooked meats, a good wine selection and efficient service, all of which make Gourmand difficult to look past when finishing a morning or afternoon in the European Quarter.

One day in Brussels (4k) - Visiting the European Parliament!
Due to winning the #iameurope contest at the European Parliament's initiative, they invited me to take a tour of Brussels and of the European Institutions on the 4th of May (everything included!).They organized the Open Day where you could visit the EU institutions and at the event were the biggest political parties promoting their work.

There were 4 more winners and out of those I got 2 new really cool friends:

Check them out, they're really cool!
Speaking of friendship and big cities, Brussels it's not the city for me. Urban development it's a bit messy, the diplomatic vibe raises through the carefully fried potatoes smell around the city. The old city looks good, comparable with other big capitals. I think the closest is Warsaw, but I wouldn't bet. Other than that, I think 3-5 days should be enough to visit the city, some museums and surroundings. As living here, some people told me it's easy to find rent due to short-terms jobs mostly covered by EU institutions. The prices could go from 500 euros for a single room in a shared flat with shared kitchen and bathroom to... well, a fortune. But if you want to know more, it's a big chance you're probably more informed than I am.
That was my super short trip to Brussels and I would really appreciate your opinions about the wonderful capital of Europe, Bruxelles!

Brussels, Belgium EU ~ Capital of 500M Europeans ~Timelapse Video 4K
The capital of 500M Europeans is world famous for its Belgian beers, heavenly chocolate and striking monuments such as the Grand Place.
But perhaps the main reasons why Belgians love their capital is for its good nightlife, many cityparcs, nice people and delicious food.
