The Furka Pass in Switzerland. Aerial Footage | 4K Drone Video
The Furka Pass (Furkapass), also made famous by a scene from James Bond 007 Goldfinger' is a gorgeous Swiss mountain pass. The pass also features the Rhone Glacier, once a famous attraction, but now disappearing year by year, probably because of global warming. The video also features the once famous Hotel Belvedere, once a major hotspot and celebrity destination and now closed because of the Rhone glacier's retreat and loss of appeal. View cinematic footage of the Historisches Alpinhotel Grimsel Hospiz and the dams around it, such as the Grimsel Dam. he first certified guesthouse of Switzerland was located at this exact place, way back in 1142. In 1932, the Grimsel Hospiz caused quite a sensation as it was the first electrically heated house in Europe. Environmental considerations had to be taken into account when the hotel was completely renovated between 2008 and 2010 and the entire hotel is now heated by using hydroelectric waste-heat. As a historic 4-star alpine hotel in the heart of the KWO catchment area, the Hotel Hospiz reigns majestically above the Grimsel reservoir lake (Grimselsee).
The Furka pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.431 m (7,976ft) above the sea level, located in one of the snowiest regions in Switzerland. It’s one of the world's most iconic, exhilarating and exciting drives, through the Swiss Alps. The pass was immortalized by the Aston DB5 / Ford Mustang car chase in James Bond's Goldfinger. It's one of the highest mountain roads of the Alps.
The pass links the Ursern valley in the canton of Uri with the municipality of Goms in the canton of Valais. It’s one of the highest paved roads in the country, and the road over the pass was built in 1867. As you drive along the pass's road, you may see the train that travels the Furka Pass chugging along through the mountainside, creating a picturesque scene for you to hold in your memory. Countless tourists are attracted by the unique mountain panorama, the Rhone Glacier with its ice grotto, the attractive options for hiking, climbing and skiing tours, as well as the reopened steam railway.
The drive is definitely worth it. The second part of the climb includes much more straight forward road, but it's also less steep. Don’t forget your camera! The road encompasses miles of stunning views through twisty hair pin corners, high elevations and steep grades. The Furka Pass also takes you within a few hundred meters of the Rhone Glacier, source of the Rhone river. Here you can park up and walk up to and actually inside the glacier itself. Travelers can actually walk through the glacier by booking a tour. Though the tunnel through the glacier is only 100 meters in length, you will want to make sure you dress warmly, because it doesn't take long for your body temperature to reach dangerous levels. Although the glacier has retreated dramatically in recent years, it still really is an incredible site, around 7km in length.
In 1964, the hairpin bends on the Furka pass earned their place in cinema history thanks to the James Bond film 'Goldfinger' in the scene in which Tilly Masterson attempts to snipe Goldfinger. It was filmed in front of the Rhone Glacier. If you want the full James Bond experience, you can even visit at the iconic petrol station in Andermatt where Bond and Tilly Masterson part ways following her failed attempt to assassinate Goldfinger – it’s now part of the Aurora Hotel. But you’ll probably look anything but Bond-style glamorous when tackling it: steep slopes, hairpin bends, switchbacks and sharp, blind curves make this a white-knuckle ride to all but the most experienced (or crazy) drivers. At least the road’s wide and perfectly surfaced – this is Switzerland, after all.

Räterischbodensee Grimselsee Grimselpass GH010013
Grimsel Pass road in #switzerland
The Grimsel Pass is a mountain pass in Switzerland, crossing the Bernese Alps at an elevation of 2,164 metres. The pass connects the Haslital, the upper valley of the river Aare, with the upper valley of the Rhône.
Elevation: 2,164 m
Location: Bern/Valais, Switzerland
Räterischbodensee: 1st artificial lake on the left
Grimselsee 2nd lake. The Grimselsee or Lake Grimsel is an artificial lake near the Grimsel Pass in the Canton of Berne, Switzerland. With a volume of 95 mio m³, it is larger than other hydroelectric reservoirs in the region: Oberaarsee, Räterichsbodensee and Gelmersee. The dam was completed in 1932 and is operated by Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG (KWO).
Totesee (Germanized: Totensee) is a small natural lake (18 ha or 44 acres) at the Grimsel Pass in Switzerland. The lake lies immediately to the south of the natural watershed and cantonal boundary at the pass. It is therefore in the canton of Valais, and it would naturally drain into the river Rhône in the valley below. However a dam has been constructed to enable its use as a reservoir, increasing its size and raising its level by 16 metres (52 ft). As part of this work, an aqueduct supplies water to the Grimselsee, which drains into the river Aare and thus forms part of the Rhine catchment.

4 Swiss Passes - HD Drone Video | Gotthard, susten, Furka, Grimsel
Four Swiss Mountain Passes in Switzerland. Cinematic drone video in 5K UHD of the Gotthard, Grimsel, Furka and Susten Passes.
The Grimsel Pass links the Hasli Valley in the Bernese Oberland with Goms in Valais. The pass road runs through a wild, sparsely grown mountainous region marked by granite rocks, reservoir lakes, and power plants.
Innertkirchen near the holiday resort of Meiringen is the starting point of two impressive pass roads. The Susten Pass leads eastward to Central Switzerland. Southward, a splendidly constructed road climbs in large bends in the direction of the Grimsel Pass. In the Guttannen, the “Crystal Village”, one can admire crystals of all sizes in the Prospector’s Museum. The road ascends through canyons of wild beauty that get narrower and narrower. Hydroelectric power plants, high voltage power lines and high reservoir lake walls dominate the landscape on the northern side of the Grimsel Pass.
The Gotthard Pass or St. Gotthard Pass (Italian: Passo del San Gottardo, German: Gotthardpass) at 2,106 m (6,909 ft) is a mountain pass in the Alps traversing the Saint-Gotthard Massif and connecting northern and southern Switzerland. The pass lies between Airolo in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, and Andermatt in the German-speaking canton of Uri, and connects further Bellinzona to Lucerne, Basel, and Zurich. The Gotthard Pass lies at the hearth of the Gotthard, an important north-south axis in Europe, and is it crossed by three major traffic tunnels, each being the world's longest at the time of their construction: the Gotthard Rail Tunnel (1882), the Gotthard Road Tunnel (1980) and the Gotthard Base Tunnel (2016). With the Lötschberg to the west, the Gotthard is one of the two main north-south routes through the Swiss Alps. Since the Middle Ages, transit across the Gotthard played an important role in Swiss history, the region north of Gotthard becoming the nucleus of the Swiss Confederacy in the early 14th century.
The Susten Pass, in the URI Canton of Switzerland. Views of the lake and glacier. The pass is a pristine, absolutely stunning location. The Susten Pass is one of the best 10 passes in Europe, featuring some of the nicest mountains in the alps.

Swiss Rack & Pinions: Furka Summit Line - NEW edited version.
New, edited and augmented version. Now includes shots from a drone and more.
Certainly one of the nicest tourist railways in Europe, it connects Realp (Uri canton) to Oberwald (Wallis canton) over the Furka Pass. 4 different steam locomotives are shown. 3 of them are original from the line, one comes from the Viege-Zermatt railway: a very interesting locomotive. All are over 100 years old, even though they just look brand new.

The Furka Pass links the Swiss towns of Andermatt in Canton Uri with Gletsch in Canton Valais. It is part of the popular three-pass trip over the Furka, Grimsel and Susten, a favourite with motor cyclists and even diehard cyclists. The road winds up around a series of hairpin bends to the pass head at 2431 metres altitude. On the Valais side, you'll find the Hotel Bélvèdere below the Rhone Glacier. It's worthwhile taking a detour to the fascinating ice grotto, which has to be re-cut in the glacier ice every year.

Furka pass
Αυγουστος 13
The Furka Pass links Andermatt in Canton Uri with Gletsch in Canton Valais and is part of the popular three-passes trip over the Furka, Grimsel and Susten. Coming from Central Switzerland and having passed through Andermatt, you begin the climb over the Furka Pass at the village of Realp. Here in summer you may see the Furka steam railway ready to puff its way over the pass. A few kilometres further on and you reach the hamlet of Tiefenbach. The road continues around a series of hairpin bends up to the pass head at 2431 metres altitude, with wonderful views of the Gotthard massif and the Ursen Valley. On the Valais side, after about three kilometres, you reach the Hotel Bélvèdere where the view opens up to the Rhone Glacier. It's worthwhile taking a detour to the ice grotto, which is re-cut into the glacier each year. In 1850, the Rhone Glacier swept down to the valley floor but today, in 2008, the glacier tongue is above the level of the hotel. The road continues to wind down to Gletsch at 1759 metres altitude at the foot of the FurkaPass and the Grimsel Pass, which leads to the Bernese Oberland. Gletsch basically consists of the tiny station of the Furka steam railway and the huge Grand Hotel Glacier du Rhône, which still has the air of the glory days of the Alpine passes at the beginning of the 19th century. Since the Furka basis tunnel from Realp to Oberwald opened in 1982, a winter-safe rail passage with car transport has existed between the cantons of Uri and the Valais. Nevertheless, the spectacular trip over the pass by bicycle, motorbike, car or yellow postbus still remains the most attractive option.

Great St Bernard Pass, Italy - Switzerland
Great St Bernard Pass, Italy - Switzerland 2013
Great St Bernard Pass (Fr. Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard, It. Colle del Gran San Bernardo) (el. 2469 m.) is the third highest road pass in Switzerland. It connects Martigny in the Canton of Valais in Switzerland to Aosta in Italy. It is the lowest pass lying on the ridge between the two highest summits of the Alps, Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa. The pass itself is located in Switzerland in the canton of Valais, very close to Italy. It is located on the main watershed that separates the basin of the Rhône from that of the Po.
Great St. Bernard is the most ancient pass through the Western Alps, with evidence of use as far back as the Bronze Age and surviving traces of a Roman road. In 1800, Napoleon's army used the pass to enter Italy, an event depicted in Jacques-Louis David's Napoleon at the Saint-Bernard Pass and Hippolyte Delaroche's Bonaparte Crossing the Alps, both notable oil paintings. Having been bypassed by easier and more practical routes, particularly the Great St Bernard Tunnel which opened in 1964, its value today is mainly historical and recreational.
Straddling the highest point of the road, the Great St Bernard Hospice was founded in 1049. The hospice later became famous for its use of St. Bernard dogs in rescue operations

4K Bosco Gurin, Vallemaggia Ticino SWITZERLAND アルプス山脈
Bosco Gurin is a municipality in the district of Rovana, in the district of Vallemaggia in the Swiss canton of Ticino.
Anyone traveling from Cevio in the Maggia Valley to Bosco Gurin is now even closer to the Valais than to the Lago Maggiore (air line). The Italian Val Formazza is in between. Walser migrated through the alpine passes in the Middle Ages and founded the only German-speaking and highest-lying village in the Canton of Ticino on 1503m. Following the signs for Sentieri di Pietra, the Steinweg. The one-hour tour of the village with its original houses of stone and wood is highly recomended.
The inhabitants of Bosco Gurin have preserved their traditions and their language over the centuries, so that today the Ggurijnartitsch is spoken in the everyday life by the villagers. In one of the oldest houses of the village from the year 1386 is the museum Guriner Walserhaus.
The village is surrounded by impressive high Alps and clear rivers.

The Great St Bernard Pass (French: Col du Grand St-Bernard, Italian: Colle del Gran San Bernardo, German: Grosser Sankt Bernhard) is the third highest road pass in Switzerland, bordering with Italy. As high as 2,469 m (8,100 ft)), It connects Martigny in the canton of Valais in Switzerland with Aosta in the region Aosta Valley in Italy. It is the lowest pass lying on the ridge between the two highest mountains of the Alps, Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa.

The pass runs northeast-southwest through the Valais Alps.
View of the pass towards the Italy-Switzerland border.
A hospice for travellers was founded in 1049 by Saint Bernard of Menthon and came to be named after him in the 16th century, along with the pass. It was not the first hospice in the pass. Buildings were probably there since the Roman times, but the region was not secure and they were destroyed many times. The first concern of the founder of the current monastery was to clear the region of bandits and keep the pass safe for travellers, the role of rescuers developing naturally. The hospice later became famous for its use of St Bernard dogs in rescue operations. Pope Pius XI confirmed Bernard as patron saint of the Alps in 1923.

The Grimsel Pass (German: Grimselpass; French: Col du Grimsel; Italian: Passo del Grimsel) is a mountain pass in Switzerland, crossing the Bernese Alps at an elevation of 2,164 metres (7,100 ft). The pass connects the Haslital, the upper valley of the river Aare, with the upper valley of the Rhône. In so doing, and as the Aare is a tributary of the Rhine, the pass crosses the continental divide between the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
A paved road follows the pass, running 38 kilometres (24 mi) from Gletsch to Meiringen.
The Grimsel Pass road is part of the Aare Route, which is national cycle route 8 of Switzerland. It has been used on several occasions by the Tour de Suisse.
The Grimsel Pass connects the cantons of Bern, to the north, and Valais, to the south, with the summit of the pass lying on the cantonal boundary. The northern slopes of the pass are in the Bernese municipality of Guttannen, whilst the southern slopes are within the Valais municipality of Obergoms.
At the summit are several hotels and an extensive area of parking. Here the road runs alongside the Totesee (2,160 metres or 7,090 feet), a natural lake that has been enlarged into a reservoir. To the west of the pass and lake is the peak of the Sidelhorn (2,764 metres or 9,068 feet), whilst to the east is the mountain range Schafberg (2,481 metres or 8,140 feet).
Weather
The road is normally closed between October and May, due to the high snowfall on the pass. As it is the only direct road pass between the cantons of Bern and Valais across the Bernese Alps, attempts are made to keep the road open as long as possible with snow ploughs. A PostBus Switzerland service uses the pass several times a day, connecting Meiringen and Oberwald.
Climate
Due to the high altitude of the pass, and its continental location, the climate is cool or cold all year round, and receives a fair amount of precipitation year-round (the majority of which is snow). Snow usually falls from late September until late June, although during cool spells, it can snow at the height of summer. Most years, permanent snow fields remain at the pass, due to the temperature rarely rising above 15 °C. This area has a long winter season, with little precipitation mostly in the form of snow, and low humidity. The Köppen climate classification classifies the climate here as subarctic.
Grimselsee
The Grimselsee or Lake Grimsel is an artificial lake near the Grimsel Pass in the Canton of Berne, Switzerland. With a volume of 95 mio m³, it is larger than other hydroelectric reservoirs in the region: Oberaarsee, Räterichsbodensee and Gelmersee. The dam was completed in 1932 and is operated by Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG (KWO). It is located in the municipality of Guttannen.
