Hell's Backbone Bridge
A highlight of Hell's Backbone Road is this narrow bridge which makes a dramatic crossing over a deep chasm. Hell's Backbone Road was built in the 1930s as an alternate route between the towns of Escalante and Boulder, Utah. The dirt road reaches an elevation of 9000 feet and skirts the edge of Box-Death Hollow Wilderness.
Cycling - Riding Hells Backbone (hogsback) from Boulder Utah to Calf Creek Campground
This is another stunning and breathtaking ride from Southern Utah. Boulder Utah was the last town in the United States to bring their mail in by Mule Train....and this is why. It's RUGGED!
Out of all the rides on A Trek 4 Change so far, I think by butt cheeks puckered a bit harder here than any other.

The Hells Backbone Road is one of the most scenic backways in Utah. In one area it follows a narrow hogback with sheer drops to both the right and the left. It is steep in spots and it can be treacherous during stormy weather.
Construction of Hell’s Backbone Road was completed in 1933 by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), allowing vehicle traffic between Escalante and Boulder for the first time.
JOIN ME as I ride my Cannondale down the steep road to Calf Creek Campground, a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) facility.
More to come soon....
Much Love to You ALL!

Driving the Burr Trail Road to Notom - Grand Staircase Escalante NM and Capitol Reef NP
In this video I drive from Boulder, UT, along the Scenic Hwy 12, down the Burr Trail Road to the Burr Trail Switchbacks, then down to the Notom-Bullfrog Road, and head north to Notom on the eastern side of Capitol Reef National Park.
Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is one of the most beautiful places in Utah, but much of it is being threatened by mining and oil rigs, which breaks my heart. Once a place is protected, it should stay protected. I hope you will joing me in protecting this incredible land.

Spring Break 2019 Shafer Switchback Trail
The Shafer Switchback trail is an alternate route to return to Moab from Canyonlands “Island In the Sky” National Park. Narrow roads with a spectacular test give white knuckled driver’s abilities to navigate carefully down this well maintained (but terrifying for those afraid of heights) trail.

Harris Hoodoos Escalante Utah
Hoodoos (vertical rock formations) pop-up everywhere in the 2 million acres of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. If you find these rock formations, you and the hoodoos will be glad you visited them. Every statuesque rock is different and constantly eroding in time. Look out in the horizon when traveling through Escalante National Monument, you may find welcoming Hoodoos to explore.

Escalante 1-Hells Backbone and Lower Calf Creek Falls-.mp4
The region of Utah around Escalante is a geologic and historic wonder. In Part one of this visit, we take the 25-mile dirt road up through the Dixie National Forest to Hell's Backbone. There, atop the forest, we can see for many miles from the Hell's Backbone Bridge.
We then take the road to Calf Creek, and hike to the majestic Lower Calf Creek Falls. The view from the overlook above the trail to the falls is magnificent.
In the next video of this series, Escalante-Part 2, we will drive the tortuous Hole in the Rock Trail. In 1879 a Mormon wagon train of 80 wagons followed this route across the desert. When they reached the high cliffs above the Colorado River, they realized that they had to somehow take their wagons down a 1,200-deep crevasse.
The Scenic Highway 12 & Lower Calf Creek Falls, Grand Escalante Utah
We hike one of our favorite trails in the USA: Lower Calf Creek Falls in the Grand Escalante National Monument, Utah. AND we get there by driving the stunning All America Road: Highway 12. Don't miss it

Acura ILX Trip to Southern Utah: Lake Powell, Burr Trail, Hell's Backbone
On August 3, 2013, I ventured to Southern Utah in my 2013 Acura ILX 2.4 6-speed to check out some amazing back roads and scenery. Highlighted in this video are a ferry ride from Hall's Crossing to Bullfrog Marina at Lake Powell, a 70-mile drive on the Burr Trail to Boulder, and then the 38-mile Hell's Backbone drive from Boulder to Escalante, Utah. I would highly recommend these drives and experiences! For more coverage from this trip and many others, see Drive to Five at Audio credit: Roxette - Joyride
